Chapter 64: I've Found Out!
Boyfriend???
Ling Qiu was momentarily taken aback.
He glanced at the proud-looking man ahead, whose cold gaze was fixed on him, and suddenly understood.
So that’s it...
He’d been used as a shield.
The stunning beauty turned her face toward Ling Qiu. She really was breathtaking.
She had shoulder-length, dark brown hair, skin as fair as snow, an oval face, and an air of pure charm. Especially striking was the slightly oversized earring hanging from her delicate, pink ear—an accessory few women could pull off, but one that perfectly complemented her unique aura.
She radiated youthful vibrance with a hint of boldness.
What piqued Ling Qiu’s interest even more was the tiny, well-hidden braid woven into her hair. When she casually brushed her hair aside, the braid would flicker into view, adding a subtle touch of playfulness.
“Liu Donghai, have you given up now?” the beauty asked, tilting her head affectionately onto Ling Qiu’s shoulder, acting as if they were an intimate couple.
Liu Donghai’s face turned an ominous shade of gray with rage. The group of followers behind him looked ready to pounce on Ling Qiu, but he held them back.
Suppressing his fury, he forced a twisted smile. “Youyou, stop joking around. It’s obvious you just grabbed some random guy and pretended he was your boyfriend. You’re the campus belle of Jiangnan University—how could someone like you ever fall for a penniless nobody like him?”
As he spoke, Liu Donghai scrutinized Ling Qiu from top to bottom, noting that everything he wore was cheap, likely bought online. The total value of his entire outfit probably didn’t even match the price of Liu Donghai’s limited-edition Marvel Spiderman boxers.
Ling Qiu actually owned expensive clothes—he was, after all, once the young master of the Ling family. But he disliked ostentatious attire and had long since discarded it all.
Now, he wore only whatever he picked up at night market stalls.
The beauty frowned. “Liu Donghai, who said you could call me Youyou? My name is Cheng Youyou. You’re a sophomore, I’m a junior—you should address me as Senior Cheng, out of respect.”
Liu Donghai rubbed his nose. “Fine, Senior Cheng. But you know my dad and your dad are close friends. The two of us are a perfect match. I gave you a year to think it over, and now that I’m a sophomore, you should’ve made up your mind by now, right?”
Cheng Youyou replied, “I’ve already said—this is my boyfriend. I already have a boyfriend. Why are you still pestering me? Besides, I never agreed to give you a chance in the first place. That’s just your wishful thinking!”
He sneered, “Come on, look at this guy—he reeks of poverty. Probably some poor kid from a small county who worked his tail off to squeeze into Jiangnan University. How could someone like you—”
Before Liu Donghai could finish, Cheng Youyou bit her lip. “Fine. You don’t believe me? I’ll prove it to you!”
With that, she turned and planted a kiss on Ling Qiu’s cheek.
A sweet fragrance lingered in Ling Qiu’s nose from that kiss.
The scene not only left Liu Donghai’s expression utterly transformed, but also drew gasps from the crowd of students around them.
“My god! Big news—turns out our campus belle, Cheng, really does have a boyfriend!”
“But... it looked like she just grabbed a random guy to play the part!”
“Are you kidding me? She kissed him! How could that be fake? That was Cheng the campus belle’s kiss—would she just give that to a random stranger?”
“Ahhh! I’m so jealous! Here I am, decked out in designer brands and still single, while this guy in a cheap outfit scores the campus belle! What’s the point of all my designer clothes?!”
One male student, in a fit of frustration, tore off his shirt and nearly pulled down his trousers before being quickly restrained.
“Calm down, calm down! You brute, you’ll get heatstroke running around half-naked in this weather!”
The chaos around them made Liu Donghai’s head throb even more.
“Shut the hell up, all of you!” Liu Donghai suddenly roared. “Anyone who keeps running their mouth, I’ll break their legs!”
His outburst shocked nearly everyone into silence.
Who was Liu Donghai, after all?
He came from an illustrious background. His parents were renowned tycoons in the provincial capital, and his relatives held important government positions. He had both wealth and connections—few dared cross him at school.
“Kid, which department are you from? If you’ve got guts, say it out loud!” Liu Donghai was seeing red. Whether or not this was all an act didn’t matter; Cheng Youyou had kissed Ling Qiu, and that was enough reason for him to take action.
But Ling Qiu just smiled. “Actually, I’d like to know which department I’m from too. Can you tell me?”
Everyone: What the...?!
Damn! This guy’s bold—he actually dared to talk to Liu Donghai like that! And with sarcasm, no less!
“Not talking, are you?” Liu Donghai’s eyelid twitched violently. “You really don’t know how much power I have! Believe it or not, within five minutes, I can not only find out your department but also your class, dormitory, hometown, and even your full name!”
Hearing this, Ling Qiu was actually delighted.
He’d been wandering the campus all day without officially registering and was worried about exactly this.
“Great, then I’ll leave it to you. But five minutes is a bit long—on a hot day like this, you’d better hurry up and not dawdle,” Ling Qiu replied with a grin.
What the...?!
Is this guy for real?!
He really thinks Liu Donghai won’t be able to find out?
Liu Donghai was fuming. In his mind, this was outright provocation!
“Fine! I’ll find out right now! Don’t you dare run off!” Liu Donghai hurriedly started making calls, determined not only to teach Ling Qiu a lesson but also to have him expelled.
His family did have some influence with the school administration.
What kind of background could a penniless kid from a small town possibly have? One phone call was all it would take to settle this.
As Liu Donghai busied himself with call after call, Ling Qiu yawned and sat himself down on the wide steps of the main hall.
At that moment...
Cheng Youyou was completely stunned.
She never imagined that the shield she’d randomly pulled in would turn out to be so stubborn—so utterly fearless!
Cheng Youyou crouched down and whispered in Ling Qiu’s ear, “Listen, junior... I was wrong to use you as a shield just now. It was a moment of desperation. But if you keep going head-to-head with Liu Donghai like this, you’ll only get yourself in trouble. You should leave now. I’ll handle the rest with him.”
She was genuinely speechless.
It should have been a minor confrontation—just a few words to make Liu Donghai back off. But now, thanks to Ling Qiu’s antics, the whole thing had blown out of proportion.
She felt things had gotten a bit out of hand... and for the first time, she felt a pang of guilt toward Ling Qiu.
Ling Qiu lazily glanced at her. “I asked him to look up my information—what’s it got to do with you? Go away, will you? On a sweltering day like this, don’t crowd so close. Aren’t you afraid you’ll suffocate?”
