Chapter 119: Perfect Coordination
This was a young girl with a pleasant appearance—black eyes, short and lively hair, a fairly high nose bridge, and full lips. Beyond the usual shyness of a girl, there was a subtle hint of androgynous beauty.
Yet, before his eyes, veins spread across her face like centipedes, and a pair of arms grotesquely extended from her waist. Fan Li couldn’t help but shudder, every hair on his body standing on end.
He had seen monsters far uglier and more repulsive than her, but Fan Li had already concluded that, overall, she was still human. That realization unsettled him deeply.
Her eyes hadn’t changed color—they remained jet black. Her body emitted some warmth; her chest rose and fell, clearly her heart was still beating.
But why had she become like this?
Fan Li recalled the red colloid he had exchanged with his notes, analyzed in the Monster Handbook. One option was “devour,” which was marked with only a ten percent success rate and ended with the phrase: only monsters can defeat monsters.
The girl’s appearance inexplicably brought this to his mind. He wondered, in this state, was it a successful devour or a failure?
Lost in thought, Fan Li’s eyes never left her, not daring to relax even for a moment. Then, suddenly, his pupils contracted sharply, and he swiftly dodged to the side.
In his original position, a shadow had already darted past—her speed surpassed that of a cheetah, and in an instant, she lunged at the spot where Fan Li’s foot had been planted.
Terrifying agility.
The girl turned her head, seemingly surprised that Fan Li had evaded her attack. Her face was expressionless, like a chef examining ingredients, her mind solely focused on how to prepare this delicacy.
“A roar…” came from nearby. Fan Li glanced sideways and saw the man whose neck had been bitten through earlier trembling as he struggled to get up.
A zombie transformation!
Though the girl was unlike a zombie, those she bit also underwent zombification—and the transformation happened much faster. Fan Li clearly remembered that when he entered, the man was still alive, his eyes wide with reluctance and fear.
This existence, different from humans and other mutants, was even more dangerous than zombies. Realizing this, Fan Li didn’t wait for another attack; with a flash step, he moved beside the zombie.
Zombies required no hesitation—once they sensed the presence of the living, they became instantly excited. The newly turned zombie opened its mouth, blood still flowing from its neck, and lunged at Fan Li.
At that moment!
“Rip!”
The sound of cloth tearing rang out. Four hands pierced straight through the zombie’s chest. The nails on those arms were pitch black, like several sharp daggers. Then, all four arms pulled outward with force, tearing the zombie into several pieces that fell to the ground.
Then a head emerged, bloodstained, and the pressure the girl emitted rose to a new level. Moreover, she muttered on her face:
“New food…”
“Food that can fill the stomach…”
She desperately reached for Fan Li. Having witnessed the destructive power of her arms, Fan Li had no intention of relying on his petrified skin but struck first.
The zombie was merely a stepping stone for Fan Li’s attack. As expected, the girl’s head, not very sharp, chose to clear the obstacle before attacking Fan Li directly.
Observing her every move, Fan Li gripped his katana tightly. As she peered out, he swung the blade downward with force.
“Slash!”
Instinctively, the girl used her arms to defend, but she seemed to underestimate the katana’s power. Fan Li gave it his all. When the blade struck her arm, the blood-red pattern on the katana flared. He felt resistance but still cut through, severing a section of her arm.
Fan Li did not linger in battle; like a panicked deserter, he fled clumsily toward the doorway.
Throughout this, the girl recovered quickly. Though her arm was severed, no pain showed on her face. Instead, her pitch-black eyes turned red, and she pushed off with her legs, lunging after Fan Li’s retreating back.
Fan Li burst through the door, and the girl followed closely behind. As her head emerged once more, an irregularly shaped hammer smeared with fragments of human skin appeared before her.
“Bang!”
At such close range, the girl was caught off guard and struck hard, her body blasted back inside the room.
A dark shadow darted past the doorway—it was Fan Li again, katana held close to his body. He stared intently at the girl, furrowing his brow, his aura growing heavier.
The girl crashed against the wall but did not rise again, as if her freedom had been bound.
Intimidation.
Fan Li had discovered a way to harness his abilities. When highly focused and angry, he had a great chance to trigger intimidation.
The girl’s movements became restricted. Fan Li closed in and, with a horizontal slash, severed both her legs. She collapsed to the ground, unable to pursue.
A perfect opportunity!
Fan Li twisted the blade and thrust it into her abdomen, piercing her flesh and pinning her to the ground.
The blood pattern on the katana glowed brightly again. The girl writhed in unimaginable pain on the floor. Her face twisted into a grotesque mask; her features slightly misaligned.
After a few seconds, the negative emotions inside her seemed completely vented. She showed an expression of loss and confusion, whispering:
“Where am I?”
“Is this a school?”
Fan Li looked at that innocent face with a hint of pity. He clenched his katana tighter and muttered a low command before decisively wiping her neck.
A streak of blood-red light traced along her neck. Blood radiance exploded within the room, enveloping the girl who had mutated for reasons unknown.
An indescribable aura spread through the room. The girl’s face contorted painfully.
She seemed to regain some consciousness, looking at her mutilated body with growing terror and bewilderment, clearly recalling some unpleasant memories.
“Save me…” she trembled, gazing desperately at the unfamiliar face before her.
Fan Li shook his head and sighed, “I’m sorry, I’m powerless…”
In this apocalypse, Fan Li’s role was less a savior and more a purifier. Regrettably, he possessed no healing abilities.
