Chapter 150: Tracking [Seeking Subscriptions!]
After I leave, everything here will be placed under Hu Huayao's charge, and you will obey his orders."
"Yes!"
Although he had occupied this faction not long ago, Fan Li had already won over everyone with his personal charisma.
Immediately, Fan Li shifted his gaze to Hu Huayao: "Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. If anyone provokes conflict, I authorize you to execute them on the spot."
Hu Huayao nodded and asked, "Are you really sure you don't need us to go with you?"
Fan Li casually slung his backpack over his shoulders, adjusting his clothes as he said, "Against monster-level zombies, no matter how many ordinary people go, it's just a meaningless suicide mission. Just wait for me at the stronghold."
"When I return this time... perhaps you will get your wish and gain the power you desire!" Fan Li dropped a sentence that only the two of them could understand, then ordered the iron gates to be opened and walked out of the camp alone.
Standing atop the wall, watching that increasingly distant figure, Hu Huayao involuntarily clenched his fists.
He had fought his way up from the bottom. Ever since he earned his first pot of gold, he had understood one truth: never depend on others at any time; only self-reliance and strength are absolute truths.
Fan Li could not stay by their side forever. In his absence, if a so-called monster really attacked, would he only be able to stretch out his neck and let it swallow and slaughter them at will?
Especially after experiencing what had just happened—tentacles moving at unimaginable speeds—if Fan Li hadn't responded in time, he very well might have turned into a corpse already.
Hu Huayao lowered his gaze to his tightly clenched fists, a helpless, bitter smile playing at the corners of his mouth. How could a power of this magnitude protect his daughter from harm?
"After returning from this hunt, I might become as strong as a monster. Could the key material for gaining strength actually come from monsters?"
At this thought, an eerie figure with two heads and more than a dozen tails uncontrollably surfaced in Hu Huayao's mind. This was the description the guards had pieced together from the dying man's delirious mumblings.
Hu Huayao shook his head, deciding to push these thoughts aside. Continuing on as they were now was nothing more than a lingering, miserable existence; he might as well fight to the death—perhaps there would be unexpected gains!
…………………………
"Awooh..."
After a period of metamorphosis, the zombies could no longer be recognized by their appearance in life.
Once infected, as long as they were not killed, zombies possessed anti-decay characteristics. However, after prolonged exposure to wind and rain and the raw consumption of flesh and blood, all their hair had fallen out, their skin had turned dark and calloused, and their facial features had become distorted, making them look more like phantoms straight out of a horror story.
A small group of zombies heard a commotion and stopped in their tracks, trying to determine the source of the sound.
A flash of cold light cut through the air.
The heads of several zombies tumbled to the ground.
Their heads rolled like rubber balls across the earth, and in their final field of vision, they saw only a long tail and a ruthlessly stern retreating back.
Compared to a noisy car, an Xenomorph was undoubtedly a much more suitable mount for travel, and when sprinting at full tilt, its speed could easily reach around eighty miles per hour.
Fan Li had never intended to search the entire county for the monster's traces, because the deceased man had already provided enough information.
"Beware of the woman in the stadium!"
The county wasn't very large; while school playgrounds and parks were plentiful, there was only one place that could be called a stadium—the unfinished Hongjun Stadium on Weiyi Road.
With a mount at his disposal, Fan Li naturally did not want to waste too much time. As for the zombies along the way, they were merely dispatched in passing.
…………………………
"Slow your pace, and try not to make a sound."
The two locations weren't far apart; otherwise, that dying man could never have escaped the zombies' pursuit and successfully reached the stronghold for rescue.
After a rapid twenty-minute sprint, Fan Li arrived at the outskirts of the stadium.
This area was completely desolate, primarily because the stadium was still under construction. The exterior had taken initial shape, and interior renovations had reportedly begun, but before it could be put into use, the current disaster had struck.
Fan Li sniffed the air. There was no scent of decay nearby.
Although zombies possessed a certain anti-decay trait, they were, after all, a group of walking rotted meat. Gathered together, they would more or less emit a nauseating stench.
Even near the stronghold, a faint, lingering odor drifted on the wind. This was caused by the long-term wandering of zombies, something human effort simply could not reverse.
Yet here, the air was entirely free of impurities. This meant that a truly terrifying monster was hidden within the stadium; only the oppressive aura it emanated could drive the zombies away and keep them from approaching.
At Fan Li's command, the Xenomorph trod silently across the ground, advancing toward the stadium.
An Xenomorph was a specialized hunter. From the very moment of its birth, it mastered formidable hunting techniques, capable of moving with near-absolute silence. Beyond that, it possessed the ability to turn invisible—a trait that allowed it to pierce an enemy's body with its tail before the victim even realized it.
Fan Li took out the music box and the inverted crucifix. When facing powerful and ferocious monsters, he still trusted the slaughter duo the most.
After all, he had spent the most time with the Butcher and Ellie, and a tacit understanding had long since formed between them. As for the obsession textbook and the newly subdued nightmare, they were still in the training phase; disobedient and unsuited for frontline melee combat, their fighting capability would be drastically reduced.
The Xenomorph strode forward, constantly closing in on the stadium.
"I'm not hungry, I'm really not hungry, please, give it to someone else."
Just as Fan Li, riding the Xenomorph, arrived at the entrance of the stadium, a shrill voice suddenly rang out from within.
"Eat, eat more, look how thin you've gotten, how can you go on like this?" A voice retorted, but it was spoken one syllable at a time—one syllable in a man's voice, the next in a woman's voice, as if they had agreed in advance to take turns speaking the exact same words.
"No... I don't want to eat... I don't want to eat!"
With a loud crash, the front doors suddenly flew open, and an exceptionally emaciated figure stumbled out. The person's cheeks were visibly sunken and their body was nothing more than skin and bones, yet even so, they kept muttering to themselves about not being hungry.
"Die..."
"Then..."
The eerie, dual-gendered voice echoed once more from inside the room. Immediately following, a tentacle—thicker even than the one that had pierced the dead man's abdomen—shot straight out and lashed around the man's neck.
"Snap!"
The force of the tentacle was so immense that, with a sharp twist, it instantly broke the survivor's neck.
The distance was too great; Fan Li had no way to offer assistance in time.
"A monster!"
Fan Li turned his attention to the music box, lowered his posture, and cast his deep, piercing gaze straight into the dark interior of the room!
