Chapter 151: Double Pupils
"Do it."
As soon as Fan Li's voice fell, he leaped off the back of the Xenomorph. Simultaneously, the Xenomorph darted forward like an arrow with a piercing whistle.
The man stood at the doorway, blood flowing from the corner of his mouth. His entire face was distorted in astonishment, but his pupils had already lost their focus. Under the monster's assault, he was killed instantly.
This was a monster!
Compared to such beings, humans were like mere ants, unable to execute even the most basic defense before losing their lives to the underworld.
The tentacle attempted to retract, but after unwinding just a circle, it froze mid-air. At that moment, the Xenomorph reached the tentacle, clamped its jaws directly onto it, and then tensed its body, pulling with all its might. A figure that could only be described as massive was hauled out from within.
Fan Li stood to the side, gripping a katana, while a series of writhing shadows danced beneath his feet.
——Shadow Touch!
The moment he leaped, Fan Li unleashed Shadow Touch to bind the tentacle, allowing the Xenomorph to seize the opportunity and drag the monster out from the room in one fell swoop.
Fighting when the enemy is in the dark and you are in the light is inherently disadvantageous; in such circumstances, the best approach is to drag both parties into the same battlefield.
What came into view was an immensely obese body, its height and width almost identical. Its skin was pitch-black, as if severely scorched by intense fire, rendering it impossible to recognize as a human form.
It had a pair of legs, but no arms. The rest of its body was covered in thick, barbed tentacles. As for its head...
One was female, and one was male.
Originally two separate heads, the monster appeared to be undergoing some kind of fusion, resembling conjoined twins. The two heads were joined together, and the centermost pair of eyes had been crammed together by sheer force, merging into a single dual-pupil eye.
That tennis-ball-sized dual-pupil eye in the center flickered with human-like negative emotions, brimming with hatred and violent, murderous intent! Clearly, the Xenomorph's attack had enraged it.
"Who..."
"Are..."
"You?"
The monster seemed to have been hidden away for a long time, as the harsh sunlight caused it some discomfort, prompting it to lower its head slightly.
Even so, it still spoke, the male and female voices blending word by word, sending a chill through Fan Li as he stood bathed in the sunlight.
Every encounter with a monster was a completely new experience.
Fan Li had even developed a certain ability to distinguish them: entities worthy of being called monsters usually possessed appearances and forms vastly different from conventional zombies.
The creature's aura sent a wave of danger through Fan Li. Clearly, the number of survivors who had perished at its hands was incalculable.
A monster with the capacity for communication.
No...
Perhaps to it, it hadn't even realized that it had transformed into a terrifying creature that fed on human flesh.
Fan Li lowered his body, moving like a hunting leopard prowling through a dense forest. He inhaled, then exhaled. The moment the air in his chest was slowly expelled from his mouth, he charged forward with every ounce of his strength.
Fan Li did not consider himself a savior. To be selfish, protecting survivors was merely a way to curb the monsters' growth rate when food was scarce, and killing monsters was a means to earn more slaughter points.
Yet, on this blighted land, he was the only one standing up to indirectly halt the wanton slaughter of these monsters.
"Die!"
Fan Li's eyes turned crimson. He simply could not accept that humanity, once perched at the pinnacle of the food chain, had been reduced to rotting meat devoured by monsters at whim!
It was just like how humans, seeking enhanced culinary textures, would watch a bullfrog being skinned alive, and while its limbs were still twitching, pluck it up with chopsticks, dip it in broth, and chew it in their mouths.
Or how they would soak an octopus in saltwater, place it in a bowl, pour hot broth over its body, and then grab it with their bare hands, biting off its tentacles while laughing and boasting to those around them about how delicious it tasted.
However wicked humanity had been in the past, that was how miserable they were in this apocalypse.
If all of this was considered a sin, then with the world paying the price of hundreds of millions, over a billion, or even tens of billions of lives, the debt must surely have been paid in full.
And those monsters born from sin—now, it was time for them to pay their dues!
The tentacles on the monster's body began to thrash. In less than ten seconds, it broke free from the Shadow Touch.
This was entirely within expectations.
Fan Li's original intention was merely to use Shadow Touch to drag it out; all he needed was a relatively spacious combat environment.
"Swish!"
"Swish!"
"Swish!"
The monster had no intention of asking further questions. The eyes atop its head locked onto the charging Fan Li, and in the next second, three tentacles lashed out from its body, aiming directly at the enemy's head.
It intended to use the same method it had used on the deceased, wrapping its tentacles around Fan Li's head and strangling him to death.
Fan Li was not foolish enough to approach the monster directly. There were simply too many tentacles on its body; once entangled, even with a helper assisting nearby, the danger would be immense.
Seeing the tentacles hurtling toward him, Fan Li purposefully sidestepped. As the tentacles closed in, attempting to entangle him, Fan Li gripped his katana tightly and swung it in a fluid motion.
"Splat!"
Three jets of foul blood sprayed onto the ground. The blood was intensely rancid, even inducing a wave of dizziness in Fan Li.
Right at that moment, the katana in his hand suddenly flared with a fierce red light and began to tremble slightly.
The blade seemed excited, as if craving the monster's blood. Having gone without a meal for some time, the katana was clearly in a state of thirst.
"Whoosh!"
To Fan Li's surprise, the severed tips of the tentacles writhed, and a new section rapidly grew out from them. Not only that, but small slits opened up at the tips, transforming into three human mouths.
"I'm not hungry!"
"Please, don't eat me!"
"I'm the thinnest one! Why did you pick me when she, she is fatter than me?!"
Painful cries echoed from the tips. These were no mere tentacles; they were living human lives.
The tentacles were shockingly fast. Just as they were about to bite into Fan Li, a shadow enveloped them, and a heavy hammer came crashing down. Only a single tentacle managed to escape narrowly, while the other two were crushed directly into a pulp of flesh and mud.
"It hurts so much!"
"Feel this pain together with me!"
The surviving tentacle hovered in mid-air, unleashing a wave of psychological terror upon the attacker. Yet the assailant ignored it entirely. It opened its jaws wide, its teeth rotating at a speed dozens of times faster than the tentacle's tip.
"Roar!"
It was a mockery, and equally a declaration of war!
