Chapter 7: Journey to America
The next day, inside the office.
Wang Yang looked at the extra thirty million in the company’s account and let out a long breath.
Now, the company’s account held a total of thirty-eight million nine hundred thousand, which could be rounded up to thirty-nine million. Converted to US dollars, that was roughly around 5.5 million. An empty F-22 fighter jet shell costs no more than two million dollars, and with transportation fees included, the initial 5.5 million dollars should be sufficient.
Moreover, once there, the other party couldn’t dictate the price—he would buy at whatever price he negotiated. As a professional live-stream sales host, bargaining was his specialty.
Knock, knock, knock.
At that moment, three knocks sounded at the door. Jiang Liangliang entered the office holding two visa passports.
“Brother Yang, the visas have been processed. They expedited it, but the other party charged five thousand.”
“Got it. Once we’re back, just get it reimbursed through finance,” Wang Yang waved his hand dismissively.
“Oh.” Jiang Liangliang suddenly shivered. “Back? Brother Yang, where are we going?”
“To the United States. We leave now. This trip won’t be too long—at most two days. So just wear what you have on now. I’ll give you half an hour to pack, then meet me downstairs at the company.”
“Oh, and don’t forget to bring the stuff I usually take on business trips. I’ll make a quick call first.”
Wang Yang issued his orders decisively, then pulled out his phone and started dialing as he walked out of the office.
“Hello, this is Wang Yang, who contacted you yesterday. I’ve purchased a ticket for today. I will depart in two hours and arrive in the US right at the start of your company’s working hours…”
Jiang Liangliang stood there dazed for a long moment.
Looking at the empty office and Wang Yang’s retreating figure, her expression shifted from surprise to a wry grimace.
Working with Brother Yang was fine in every way—except that he was incredibly decisive and acted with utmost efficiency, always adhering to the principle: if something could be negotiated, negotiate; if not, don’t cooperate.
His execution was top-notch. Once the preliminary preparations were done, he gave his all to see things through.
Fortunately, Brother Yang paid them the highest salaries in the industry. After all, as Brother Yang put it, “You deserve what you earn, based on what you do.”
Jiang Liangliang smiled helplessly, sighed, and quickly began packing.
…
Two hours later, at the airport.
Jiang Liangliang dragged two small suitcases, carrying a backpack, trailing behind Wang Yang as they reached the security checkpoint. The staff began checking boarding passes.
“Hello, sir. May I ask the purpose of your trip to the United States?” the sweet-smiling attendant inquired.
Recently, following Trump’s ascension, a series of draconian policies had been enacted, one of which was the “US-bound security check,” requiring every passenger flying to the US to undergo security questioning.
Wang Yang smiled. “Trade.”
He then gestured behind him. Jiang Liangliang understood immediately, opened her large backpack, and presented a series of certificates and printed documents.
“These are company credentials, trade licenses, and other proofs,” Wang Yang explained as he handed the documents to the attendant.
These were prepared in advance by him specifically to handle airport security smoothly.
The attendant took the documents, thoroughly examined them, then returned them with a warm smile. “Thank you very much for your cooperation, Mr. Wang.”
Wang Yang accepted the proofs with a casual grip and passed through security into the departure lounge.
He then led Jiang Liangliang straight into the VIP lounge.
For this trip, he had her book first-class tickets.
The total flight time was twelve hours, perfectly timed for a turnaround. Had they chosen economy, he would likely have been too exhausted upon landing to negotiate effectively with the arms dealer.
Before negotiations, he needed to rest well and keep his energy up to avoid being exploited.
Sitting on the plush sofa, Wang Yang closed his eyes to rest, his mind running through various scenarios: how to negotiate with the arms dealer upon arrival, what kind of person Mijias might be based on online intel, and what negotiation tactics to employ.
He mentally rehearsed these strategies repeatedly to ensure he would maintain the upper hand during talks.
Just as he was deep in thought—
“Brother Yang, a call from the company,” Jiang Liangliang’s voice came to his ear.
Wang Yang opened his eyes, took the phone, and held it to his ear. “What’s up?”
“…”
“Pause the live stream for now. Don’t pay attention to the online chatter just yet. Don’t have PR make any moves either. Assess the situation first, and report to me immediately if anything happens. That’s all—I have other matters.”
Wang Yang handled work matters swiftly. After all, once abroad, no one would manage the company temporarily. Though it was only two days, business would be on hold during that period.
This company ultimately revolved around Wang Yang. All decision-making, personnel deployment, and upper management were handled solely by him.
After hanging up, he checked the boarding time, stood up, and beckoned to Jiang Liangliang. “Let’s go rest well on the plane.”
“Oh, alright, Brother Yang.” Jiang Liangliang swallowed her snack quickly, efficiently packed up, and when she looked up, Wang Yang was already near the fast-track entrance.
“Wait for me, Brother Yang!” she called, hurrying after him with her luggage and backpack.
…
Twelve hours later.
United States, Ganni State International Airport.
Wang Yang appeared vibrant, smiling warmly at the bearded American waiting to pick them up.
“Hello, friend from Kyushu. I am Mr. Mijias’s representative sent to welcome you,” the bearded man greeted heartily.
Wang Yang opened his arms and embraced him warmly. “Thanks to Mr. Mijias.”
Since this was America, Wang Yang greeted the American in a manner customary among friends. Reaching out for a handshake abruptly might create a poor impression or cause awkwardness.
Wang Yang always paid close attention to such details—they often determined success or failure. Whenever he bargained with brand owners, he leveraged subtle, unnoticed nuances to gain their full trust.
This allowed him to sell products at the lowest possible price, boosting his popularity while earning what he deserved.
Sure enough, the bearded man was delighted, putting an arm around Wang Yang’s waist and laughing heartily.
“Let’s go, my friend. We’ll see Mr. Mijias now. He’s already waiting at the company and I’m sure he’s very happy to have you here.”
