Until Yu Dazhang carried the suspect to the front of the car, Zhao Hang’s mind was still in a daze.
He had witnessed the entire scene from beginning to end.
He had thought Yu Dazhang’s fate was grim, but instead, the man not only came out unscathed but also knocked the suspect unconscious and brought him back.
What infuriated him the most was that scoundrel had even taken the liberty to act like a rogue.
What Zhao Hang saw as a life-or-death matter seemed so casual and effortless to Yu Dazhang.
At that moment, Zhao Hang’s worldview was shattered.
So it was true—comparing yourself to others really could drive you mad.
A sharp tapping sound snapped Zhao Hang back to reality.
“Come out and help,” Yu Dazhang said, knocking hard on the car window.
“Can’t you see I’m carrying someone?”
“Oh, right, okay.” Zhao Hang quickly opened the door and got out, joining another rookie to take the suspect from Yu Dazhang’s shoulders.
“Put on the handcuffs,” Yu Dazhang ordered.
“When the captain and the others arrive, hand him over directly to the First Squad.”
Zhao Hang immediately complied, taking out the handcuffs and securing the suspect’s wrists.
He didn’t even realize that Yu Dazhang’s words carried absolute authority with him now.
In reality, Lv Zhongxin and the First Squad had already arrived by the time Yu Dazhang approached Qu Tuotuo.
Wei Qian, afraid of alarming the suspect, had ordered the First Squad to hold position and not move forward.
Only when they saw Yu Dazhang drag the suspect out of the car did they breathe a sigh of relief and spring into action.
The First Squad officers headed toward the Qu family’s main gate, while Wei Qian and Lv Zhongxin came over to Yu Dazhang.
“Master, you finally showed up,” Yu Dazhang complained.
If Lv Zhongxin and Wei Qian had arrived a little earlier, he wouldn’t have had to take such a risk.
It had been incredibly dangerous—if not for Qu Tuotuo acting as a shield, Yu Dazhang likely would have ended up a casualty.
The thought still sent chills down his spine.
If the victim had been a man… that would have been truly disastrous.
Kissing a man… Yu Dazhang would rather be shot.
“You brat,”
Lv Zhongxin punched Yu Dazhang lightly.
Before getting out of the car, Lv Zhongxin had planned to scold his apprentice, but when faced with him, his focus shifted entirely to checking for injuries.
Seeing that Yu Dazhang was unhurt, he finally relaxed.
“I have to head back now,” Yu Dazhang signaled toward the Qu family gate.
Lv Zhongxin immediately understood.
He had witnessed what Yu Dazhang had done earlier.
“You and Xiao Zhao should return to the squad first. The case is temporarily closed; there won’t be much you can do next.”
The rest was now the First Squad’s responsibility—Yu Dazhang and his team were only there to assist.
The following days kept the First Squad busy.
With the ringleader in custody and two accomplices identified, the First Squad continued their arrests.

Next came interrogation, investigation, and evidence collection, mainly to check for any overlooked culprits.
During this period, Wei Qian personally brought Yu Dazhang to the First Squad,
claiming they needed his help with the investigation.
After all, both the kidnapper and the mastermind were caught by Yu Dazhang himself.
Now, the entire First Squad held Yu Dazhang in high regard, no longer seeing him as just a rookie.
The First Squad had spent five days with no clue about the mastermind.
Then this young man came to assist and immediately caught the mastermind.
That was tantamount to saving every member of the First Squad.
He was a probationary officer who had been on the force less than a month.
Who had ever seen a rookie like that?
No precedent existed in the entire criminal investigation system of Songhai City.
Both arrests were made unarmed, despite the suspects being armed with firearms.
Not even veteran detectives dared claim they could do such a thing.
It took not only brains but guts.
Without audacious courage and fearlessness, even if you were handed a knife, you wouldn’t know how to strike.
Yet Yu Dazhang not only did it but did so brilliantly.
By now, no one cared about the earlier mistake of arresting the wrong person.
The victim didn’t hold it against him, and his own team certainly wouldn’t.
After days of continuous interrogation, the case was nearing its conclusion.
What defined the closure of a case?
Clear facts and circumstances, and solid evidence.
In other words, the case was thoroughly sorted with no remaining doubts.
Next came pursuing criminal liability according to the law, which was no longer the detective unit’s work.
Yu Dazhang was also called back to the Third Squad by Captain Zhang Dong.
Zhang Dong had seen that if he didn’t call him back soon, the First Squad might hold on to Yu Dazhang.
Now Wei Qian looked at Yu Dazhang with green envy in his eyes.
Wei Qian had even privately talked with Zhang Dong.
“Old Zhang, what do you think of the two rookies under my command? They’re really promising, right?”
“Of course, your judgment has never been wrong.”
“How about I transfer them to your Third Squad?”
“You’re kidding, right?”
“I’ll swap two rookies for one from your Third Squad, two for one.”
“Who are you thinking of trading?”
“Yu Dazhang.”
“Get lost!”
Zhang Dong wasn’t foolish—Yu Dazhang was a rising star who could bring honor to the entire Third Squad.

A bit chubby, but that didn’t stop him from excelling.
It was Wei Qian who had misjudged him initially and now wanted to reap the rewards—how shameless!

In a minimalist-style office,
sunlight streamed through the glass, filling the room with a warm, comfortable atmosphere.
Qu Tuotuo sat behind the desk, her eyes vacant as she gazed out the window.
Outside the large, bright floor-to-ceiling window, a window washer was dangling like a spider.
A gentle knock sounded at the door.
“Come in.” Qu Tuotuo didn’t turn her head.
A young woman dressed as a secretary entered, glanced at Qu Tuotuo, then followed her gaze outside.
“Ms. Qu?”
“Get to the point.”
Qu Tuotuo still didn’t look back, maintaining her posture.
“Since you just returned to the country, the chairman was worried you might be unfamiliar with the domestic market, so he specially asked me to prepare an introductory briefing for you.”
“Put it down there.”
“Ms. Qu, what are you looking at?”
The secretary couldn’t understand what was so interesting about the window washer.
“You tell me,” Qu Tuotuo’s eyes refocused but her position remained unchanged,
“if someone does something wrong, would they feel guilty?”
The secretary was puzzled but answered,
“It depends on the person. A good person definitely would, a bad person might not.”
“What if they did wrong to save someone?” Qu Tuotuo pressed on.
“Then…” The secretary thought for a moment,
“if it’s to save someone, then they’re not a bad person. If they feel guilty, apologizing would be enough.”
The secretary’s words left Qu Tuotuo silent for a long while before she sighed,
“You may go now.”
After the secretary left, Qu Tuotuo stared out the window for a long time, watching until the window washer disappeared before she looked away.
“So, he doesn’t think he did anything wrong.”
Qu Tuotuo muttered quietly, a sudden tightness in her chest.
She had been waiting for an explanation these past few days. Though the other party had acted to save her, the method was unacceptable to her.
“A week has passed. Looks like he intends to let it go.”
Her eyes fixed tightly on the safety rope the window washer used. From start to finish, her gaze never left that rope.
“I really want to strangle him.”
