Chapter 56: Two-Pronged Preparation
At Zhang Feng's residence.
Having received the phone call from Viper, he reluctantly hauled himself out of bed, put on his clothes, and prepared to go bail someone out. After all, he had accepted quite a few favors from Viper. Since trouble had found Feng Bao's side, he naturally had to step in and help. Besides, matters like this were not particularly difficult for him.
He had already made inquiries: none of Chen Xuewen's people were injured, and the casualties were entirely on Feng Bao's side. Therefore, the issue was relatively easy to resolve; it was well within the weight of his influence.
He put on his shoes and reached for the door. Suddenly, he noticed an envelope wedged into the crack of the door.
Frowning in confusion, he picked it up and gave it a squeeze. The envelope felt thick, as though it contained quite a few things.
Zhang Feng promptly ripped it open. Inside was a stack of photographs.
Taking a closer look, he saw that the pictures clearly captured Feng Bao leading his men to smash up the video arcade belonging to Chen Xuewen’s brother earlier today. The shots were remarkably clear, capturing Feng Bao's figure in full detail.
Not only that, but further down the stack were photographs of Feng Bao assaulting Wang Guiwen, as well as the entire sequence of events showing Feng Bao destroying Wang Guiwen's camera and exposing the film inside.
Upon finishing the photographs, a chill ran down Zhang Feng's spine, and cold sweat broke out all over his forehead. He had originally thought that since Feng Bao had destroyed all of Wang Guiwen's film earlier today, no evidence would remain. Yet who could have imagined that such photographs still existed?
If these photographs were all brought to light, he would never be able to shoulder the responsibility. After all, he had swept today's incident under the rug and completely ignored Wang Guiwen's grievances. Because he believed Wang Guiwen lacked evidence, he had simply let Feng Bao and his men go.
But the photographs in his hands now constituted definitive proof. Once exposed and blown into a scandal, Feng Bao would undoubtedly be finished. And he, having sheltered Feng Bao to such an extent, would likely be dragged down with him.
Trembling all over, his face drained of color, Zhang Feng was terrified to his core.
Suddenly, the phone beside him rang.
Startled, Zhang Feng answered with a trembling voice, "Wh... who is this?"
From the other end of the line came an icy voice, "Zhang Feng, is it? You've seen the photos, haven't you?"
Zhang Feng's expression shifted drastically. "You... did you take these photos?"
"What... what on earth do you want?"
"I'm warning you..."
Before he could finish, the person on the other end interrupted flatly, "You're warning me?"
"Zhang Feng, haven't you figured out the situation yet?"
"I'm merely a public-spirited citizen who happened to capture these photographs by chance. That's not breaking the law, is it?"
"How exactly do you plan to warn me?"
Zhang Feng was rendered utterly speechless. After a long moment, he gritted his teeth and asked, "What do you want?"
The person on the other end gave a faint chuckle. "It's very simple."
