Chapter 58: Chen Bing Has Been Arrested!
Bang!
With a deafening crash, one of the rear tires of the large cargo truck blew out. The vehicle instantly spun out of control, careening straight toward the roadside green belt!
Immediately following a muffled thud, the heavy truck flipped onto its side!
The driver scrambled out from the cab of the overturned truck, desperate to flee!
"Trying to run?"
Chen Hao let out a cold snort. Naturally, he had no intention of letting this fellow escape.
He gave chase immediately, rapidly closing the distance to the truck driver, and with a single flying kick, sent the man sprawling to the ground!
Stepping up to the driver, Chen Hao planted his foot firmly on the man's head and demanded sternly, "Was it Chen Bing who sent you to ram and kill me?"
"I... I don't know what you're talking about..."
"I... I just lost control of the vehicle... and accidentally hit the taxi..."
The driver stammered out an excuse.
"Do you take me for a three-year-old child, so easily fooled?"
"After you struck the taxi, you deliberately accelerated right at me!"
"You were clearly coming after me!"
"It doesn't matter if you refuse to confess; I'll make sure you confess willingly!"
Chen Hao said coldly.
Without hesitation, he struck several vital pressure points on the driver's body associated with pain and numbness!
These specific points were enough to inflict agonizing torment, plunging the driver into profound misery.
"Ah..."
Overwhelmed by a searing blend of pain and numbness throughout his entire body, the driver let out a shrieking wail of pure agony as beads of sweat the size of soybeans poured down his face.
Unable to withstand the brutal torture a moment longer, he broke down and capitulated: "I confess, I confess! It was Chen Bing who arranged for me to run you down..."
"What proof do you have?"
Chen Hao asked after a moment of thought.
"I have... I have..."
"I have a cassette tape on me..."
"I was worried that once the job was done, Chen Bing wouldn't pay me the remainder..."
"So... so when Chen Bing approached me, I secretly recorded the conversation..."
The driver confessed with complete honesty.
Chen Hao immediately searched the driver's pockets, and sure enough, he retrieved a cassette tape.
"Hmph!"
"I figured you weren't just worried about the final payment; you probably intended to use this recording to blackmail Chen Bing for even more money later on!"
Chen Hao saw right through the killer-driver's true motive: secretly recording the conversation wasn't just insurance—it was leverage to extort a larger sum from Chen Bing after the fact!
The killer-driver was utterly stunned; he had never imagined that Chen Hao would pierce through his hidden agenda at a single glance.
However, racked with intense agony at that moment, he had no capacity for lingering thoughts and simply wanted the torment to end immediately.
He frantically begged Chen Hao for mercy: "Big Brother... I've told you everything... Please, spare me..."
"Hmph, consider yourself sensible."
Chen Hao gave a cold grunt and struck the killer-driver's pressure points once more.
Almost instantly, the excruciating mix of pain and numbness vanished!
It was nothing short of miraculous!
Just then, traffic police arrived at the scene.
"Sir, are you alright?"
A traffic officer asked Chen Hao with deep concern.
"I'm fine!"
"This man was hired by someone to commit premeditated murder against me!"
"This cassette tape is the evidence."
Chen Hao said, holding up the recording in his hand for the officer to see.
"What?"
"Premeditated murder?"
The traffic officer was utterly shocked.
He had assumed the collision was merely a routine traffic accident, not an attempted assassination!
Clearly, this matter was of grave significance.
He immediately reported the situation to his superiors while placing the killer-driver under custody.
Moments later, an ambulance arrived to take the injured taxi driver away.
Though the taxi driver had escaped with his life, he had still sustained severe injuries!
A short while after that, several police cruisers pulled up.
As an officer stepped out of the lead vehicle, Chen Hao was momentarily startled!
It turned out to be Senior Inspector Leung Kim-hung, whom he had met just yesterday.
"Why is it you?"
Leung Kim-hung looked surprised as he walked over to Chen Hao.
"Hello, Inspector Leung!"
Chen Hao greeted him.
Seeing the seemingly amicable relationship between Chen Hao and Leung Kim-hung, the killer-driver felt his heart sink; he knew he was completely finished this time.
"What on earth is going on here?"
Leung Kim-hung asked, looking straight at Chen Hao.
He had just received orders from his superiors regarding a traffic accident that was suspected to be a homicide rather than an accident.
He never expected it to involve Chen Hao!
"Here is what happened..."
Chen Hao quickly recounted the entire sequence of events to Leung Kim-hung.
Leung Kim-hung's expression grew solemn. He had not anticipated that this case would implicate Chen Bing, the chairman of the Tachang Group.
Chen Bing was an influential tycoon; if handled improperly, it would spell massive trouble!
He quickly turned to Chen Hao and said, "Come with me to the station to give a statement!"
"Alright."
Chen Hao nodded in agreement.
He then accompanied Leung Kim-hung back to the West Kowloon Police Station.
Upon returning to the station, Leung Kim-hung immediately played the cassette tape secretly recorded by the killer-driver.
The contents of the recording indeed confirmed that someone had hired the driver to assassinate Chen Hao!
However, verifying whether the voice on the tape belonged to Chen Bing required further investigation.
Still, with both a living witness and an incriminating audio recording in hand, the chances were overwhelmingly high that Chen Bing was the mastermind!
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Leung Kim-hung promptly reported the development to his superiors.
After careful consideration, his superiors instructed Leung Kim-hung to bring Chen Bing in for questioning.
Leung Kim-hung immediately led a team to the Tachang Group headquarters.
Failing to find Chen Bing at the company, he rushed straight to Chen Bing's residence.
Along the way, however, he received a tip-off: Chen Bing was currently en route to the airport in an attempt to flee Hong Kong!
This only heightened his conviction that Chen Bing had something to hide; otherwise, there would be no reason to run at such a critical juncture.
He immediately redirected his team toward the airport!
Upon arriving at the terminal, he deployed his officers to search in separate directions.
Before long, he spotted Chen Bing waiting in line to board a flight!
He stepped forward and blocked Chen Bing's path.
"Chen Bing, I am Senior Inspector Leung Kim-hung from the West Kowloon Regional Crime Unit!"
"You are suspected of involvement in a criminal case, and I must take you in for questioning."
"You do not have to say anything unless you wish to do so, but whatever you say will be taken down in writing and may be used as evidence in court!"
Leung Kim-hung produced a pair of handcuffs and secured Chen Bing's wrists.
Chen Bing's face turned ashen.
He had previously received word that his hired assassin had failed to eliminate Chen Hao, prompting him to realize the situation had turned perilous and inspiring his flight from Hong Kong to avoid the storm.
He had never imagined that the police would close in so rapidly.
Nevertheless, maintaining a veneer of composure, he declared, "I want to speak to my lawyer..."
