Chapter 17: One Must Be Careful With Their Words
As soon as Yu Danxue spoke, both the live audience and the comments burst into laughter.
“Spread the word, it’s not that Yu Zhicheng can’t do it, he’s just very weak!”
“No way, I’m going to die laughing in this livestream sooner or later. How can Young Mistress be this adorable?”
“Look at Yu Zhicheng’s expression; it’s like he’s saying, ‘Can you just let me die?’”
Yu Zhicheng indeed felt like dying right now.
He lightly tapped his own mouth several times, silently telling himself not to say anything foolish.
Now it had escalated from “you can’t do it” to “you’re very weak.” How pleased she must be.
“...Young Mistress, I want to make it clear first: I’m not incapable, nor am I weak. I’m a normal man with normal strength.”
Yu Danxue cast him a skeptical glance. “Really?”
Yu Zhicheng nodded vigorously. “More real than pearls.”
Yu Danxue shot back, “Then, Zhicheng, can you lift two men?”
Yu Zhicheng was momentarily stunned. “Huh?”
“My dad… my father can, and he can easily lift three men,” Yu Danxue said proudly.
“So, a normal man should at least be able to lift two men.”
Their father was amazing, easily lifting three men and running quite far too.
Yu Zhicheng took a deep breath—just a breath. How could the Young Mistress compare him, a mere weakling, to their mighty ancestor who could move mountains?
He was truly ambitious.
That ancestor was not only outstanding in both civil and military affairs but also a key minister in two dynasties, a master of strategy and tactics, and someone who elevated the family to new heights.
“Young Mistress, you can’t compare me to your dad.”
Yu Danxue looked puzzled. “Why not?”
“Because you’re men; you can be compared.”
Yu Zhicheng said, “...Young Mistress, there are differences even among men.”
Hearing this, Yu Danxue suddenly exclaimed, “So you’re still very weak.”
Yu Zhicheng clutched his aching chest, wanting to cry but with no tears—damn that mouth!
Qi Kang patted his shoulder sympathetically. “You better not talk to Young Mistress about this anymore.”
“I’m afraid if you keep going, it won’t just be ‘you’re weak,’ but something even worse.”
Yu Zhicheng made a gesture to silence himself. He really didn’t dare continue this conversation with the Young Mistress.
---
The Young Mistress said anything and everything without filter, being just a child with no sense of boundaries.
Yu Danxue glanced at him curiously. “Zhicheng, what’s wrong?”
“Anning, let’s go play,” Luo Jian said, catching Qi Kang’s glance and pulling Yu Danxue away.
“I just told Xiao Yun and Dou Dou we’d first check out our house, then stroll around the village.”
Yu Danxue’s attention shifted immediately.
But the next moment—
“Guests, aren’t you going to eat?” the director called through a megaphone. “Lunch is what you made yourselves.”
Yu Danxue and the others all looked at the two dishes on the table: a pitch-black cucumber salad and a fairly decent-looking tomato scrambled eggs.
“I suddenly lost my appetite, not hungry at all,” Luo Jian twitched at the corner of his mouth.
Feng Dou Dou and Xiao Yun nodded in agreement.
Yu Danxue hummed. “But it’s such a waste.”
“The granny worked so hard growing those vegetables; it wouldn’t be right to waste them.”
Luo Jian looked troubled. “But it looks so unappetizing. How can we eat it? We didn’t even cook rice.”
Yu Danxue’s eyes rolled as an idea struck her. “How about we ask the villagers to help?”
“The production team didn’t say we couldn’t.”
“Let’s take these two dishes to the villagers.”
The four kids quickly sprung into action, carrying the two plates and running off to find the villagers.
The director was left dumbfounded.
The camera zoomed in on the director’s stunned face.
Director (thinking): “I was planning to give you a hard time, but you guys pulled this move?”
“Hahaha, the director never expected these four little darlings to play this card.”
“From an adult’s perspective, in this situation, you either eat it or starve. But these are four kids.”
“I’m curious how these four little darlings managed to get the villagers to help.”
The camera dutifully followed Yu Danxue and the other three children, capturing all their movements.
First, the four children arrived at the neighbor’s house of the village chief.
This household had the son and daughter-in-law working away, while the elderly couple and their grandchild remained in the village.
They happened to be having a meal.
---
The elderly lady saw the well-behaved four children and her face lit up with smiles.
“Are you children here to eat?”
Unbothered by the camera, she squatted down and asked, “Do you want to eat at my place?”
“My cooking isn’t much, but it fills the stomach.”
Yu Danxue politely thanked her before explaining, “Grandma, we made two dishes, but we didn’t cook any rice.”
“We want to exchange some work for a meal. We can help you clean your house or do whatever chores we can.”
The elderly lady glanced at the two plates the children were holding—she twitched at the sight of the cucumber salad. How much seasoning had gone into that?
(Commentators joked about how creative the seasoning must have been, given that it was the Young Mistress and Yu Zhicheng who made it.)
“That’s fine, that’s fine,” the lady said with a worried smile. “You give me those two dishes first; I’ll fix them up, okay?”
She knew the crew was filming in the village; influencers had come before, so the villagers were used to it.
Yu Danxue handed over the dishes with a sweet “Thank you, Grandma,” and asked, “What can we do now?”
The lady replied, “You eat first, then help me clear and wash the dishes after.”
Yu Danxue promptly agreed and added, “Grandma, could you spare a little food and rice for a few older kids? I want to take some to them.”
The lady thought she meant some older children and didn’t hesitate. “Sure, I’ll give you some.”
She led the four children to the main room, gave them bowls and chopsticks, and asked the elderly man to serve some clean dishes using communal chopsticks.
Then she went to the kitchen to deal with the oddly colored cucumber salad.
After thanking the lady, the four children obediently began to eat.
Neither Yu Danxue nor Luo Jian nor the others were picky or messy. They ate whatever was on the table without complaint.
“Wow, Anning, try this braised pork. It’s so delicious—I love the fatty part.”
“I prefer the lean part. Luo Jian, can I share with you? I don’t like the fatty bits but don’t want to waste any food.”
“Share with me then. I want the fatty part, and Luo Jian and Anning can share the lean.”
The four children ate heartily, not only allowing the lady’s two grandchildren to eat more but also making the viewers in the livestream hungry.
