Chapter 27: The Director: Believe It or Not, I’ll Cry Right Here in Front of You

“That shop over there sells milk tea.” Han Qian pointed toward a milk-tea shop in the distance. “It’s a kind of tea, and it’s really delicious.”
Just then, a chorus of screams rang out.
“Little Great-Aunt, I’ve finally met you!”
“Little Great-Aunt, this is milk tea and some delicious snacks. You must accept them!”
“Little Great-Aunt, I’m your fan!”
A huge crowd of fans rushed over and stuffed Yu Danxue’s arms with a mountain of gifts.
When she could no longer hold them, Yu Zhisheng and the others took them from her.
Naturally, Yu Zhisheng and the other guests had plenty of fans as well.
None of the fans caused any trouble. They simply presented the guests with piles of food and drinks, then gathered around to take photographs.
Yu Danxue was stunned for a moment before raising a radiant smile. “Thank you for your gifts. I like them very much.”
“Be careful, all of you. Don’t run around recklessly.”
She added, “And please don’t give us any more gifts. Everyone works hard for their money. We should all save properly and use our money to buy things we like.”
Her mother had told her that ordinary people worked very hard to earn money, and they must not take advantage of them.
Her mother had also said that they already had plenty of money, so they must not compete with ordinary people for the space they needed to live.
Her childish words touched everyone present, as well as the viewers in the livestream.
“Boo-hoo, Little Great-Aunt is such a good child. She’s so young, yet she already understands so much. That shows how excellent the Yu family’s upbringing is. No wonder Yu Zhisheng, who came from such a family, is a good person too.”
“She’s nothing like certain celebrities who look down on gifts from fans because they aren’t expensive enough, and openly or subtly encourage their fans to give them costly presents.”
[The celebrity I used to follow was exactly like that. Gifts below a certain price weren’t allowed, and fans even had to buy him houses and cars. They bought all his clothes too.]
[Seriously? People actually become fans of celebrities like that? Do you have too much money? If you do, you can give it to me.]
[Some fans are just hopeless. They think their idol is perfect in every way, while everyone else is deliberately targeting them. They spend all day making a scene online.]
Yu Danxue and the other guests received far too many gifts, and much of it was food. There was no way the few of them could finish it all.
In the end, after asking for the fans’ permission, Yu Danxue and the other guests decided to share some of the food and drinks with the production crew and donate the rest to people in need.
“All right, fans of every household, please don’t gather around here.” Yu Zhisheng clapped his hands a few times and raised his voice slightly.
“And please don’t come and buy the vegetables we’re selling. It would be bad for the show, and it might prevent people who genuinely need to buy vegetables from getting any.”

His words won the goodwill of countless people.

The fans, who had originally wanted to help their idols, rationally promised after hearing Yu Zhisheng’s words that they would not buy anything or cause the town any trouble.
“You’re all such wonderful children.” Yu Danxue praised them in the tone of a young elder. “You’re all going to be very happy.”
The fans did not find her manner strange at all. Instead, they grinned from ear to ear.
“Thank you for your praise, Little Great-Aunt.”
Yu Danxue was delighted, though she pretended to be very composed. “Mm!”
Everyone burst out laughing.
Once the fans dispersed, Yu Danxue and the other guests discussed whether they should sell their vegetables separately or together.
“Together.” Yu Danxue had her own reasoning. “If we put several kinds of vegetables together, customers will have more to choose from, which will attract more people.”
“My mo—my mother once said that the more choices there are, the more customers will come. They might even buy things they hadn’t originally intended to purchase.”
Han Qian let out an impressed exclamation, her eyes shining. “Little Great-Aunt is amazing. You know so much!”
Yu Danxue’s pride nearly sent her nonexistent tail soaring. “I’m an elder, after all. Of course I’m amazing.”
The guests all laughed.
“The director never said we couldn’t sell the vegetables together,” Yu Zhisheng said. “Let’s choose a stall and sell everything together. That way, we can help each other too.”
The director… was already breathing oxygen.
The camera deliberately gave the director a close-up.
The director struggled to take a deep breath, but still couldn’t manage to get up from his chair. He could only remain sprawled there.
[What could the director possibly have done wrong? He merely didn’t want the guests to finish their task so quickly.]
[Unfortunately, human calculations can’t beat Little Great-Aunt’s calculations. She’s so clever that she easily foiled the director’s “scheme.”]
[Stop it, all of you! The director has suffered a mental breakdown. He’s going to cry for you.]
[Director, I’ve already prepared tissues for you. Aren’t you going to cry?]
[Oh my goodness, you people are vicious. I love it.]

When the director saw the comments, he fell silent for a moment. Then he covered his face and began sobbing.
“You viewers have no conscience!”
The livestream audience: Satisfied.
Meanwhile, with the help of several warmhearted local men and women, Yu Danxue and the other guests found a stall in a corner of the vegetable market.
After borrowing money from the production crew to pay the stall fee, Yu Zhisheng and the other adults carried the vegetables over.
None of the adults had ever done such strenuous work before. Although they were tired, not one of them complained.
After arranging the vegetables, they looked at one another, wondering how they could attract customers.
“You can’t arrange them like that.” Yu Danxue took a shabby old piece of cloth from her trouser pocket and spread it over the empty space at the front.
Then she took some vegetables from the bamboo basket and arranged them one by one.
Each kind of vegetable was displayed beautifully, allowing people to see at a glance what it was.
Yu Zhisheng and the other guests were astonished.
“Little Great-Aunt, where did you learn this?”
Yu Zhisheng was the most surprised of all. He knew Little Great-Aunt’s true identity.
She had been born into a great aristocratic household, surrounded by countless maids and servants from the moment she entered the world. She had never needed to lift a finger for anything.
It was perfectly normal for Little Great-Aunt to know how to read, and only natural that she understood certain principles. But how did she know something like this?
“My mother taught me.” Yu Danxue spoke with particular pride. “She said that if you want to sell something, the goods must look attractive. People have to notice them at a glance, and then they’ll sell faster.”
Her mother had said that the only way she could protect her was by teaching her these things, so that she could live well in the world of the future.
She silently said in her heart: Father, Mother, Eldest Brother, Eldest Sister-in-Law, Second Brother, Second Sister-in-Law, don’t worry about me. I’m doing very, very well here.
Xiaozheng and Xiaosheng are both very good to me. They care about me and worry about me. I’m very, very happy too.
Zhong Guoxing and the other guests did not think much of it, assuming that her parents had simply taught her these things.
Yu Zhisheng, however, understood. He pressed his lips together slightly. The more Little Great-Aunt knew, the more it showed how deeply her family had worried about her and how desperately they had wanted her to live well in the future.
“Little Great-Aunt, do you have a dream?” he asked, crouching in front of Yu Danxue.
