Chapter 4: What Has Happened?

“My brother Qi Kang always looks half-asleep; anyone who didn’t know might think he’s up to no good at night, but in reality, he’s just staying up late writing songs.”
“Why is that scumbag Yu Zhicheng on the show? Having someone like him here makes the whole thing disgusting.”
“Yu Zhicheng, you owe Gao Pengfei an apology! You haven’t apologized yet and still dare to twist the truth online. How are you not banned?”
“I despise people like Yu Zhicheng, who flaunt their family’s publicly listed company to run wild in the entertainment industry. I hope the Yu family goes bankrupt soon so Yu Zhicheng can no longer bully others or do evil in showbiz.”
“Aren’t you haters annoying? You spread malicious clips and baseless rumors just to attack our brother here.”
“I hate these haters so much. They’re jealous of my brother’s privileged background—born with a silver spoon, no need to suck up in the industry—so they try every dirty trick to slander him.”
On the live chat, the name Yu Zhicheng sparked a fierce argument.
Fans clashed with haters and some bystanders, turning the chat into chaos.
None of the four guest groups noticed this.
After greeting each other and the live audience, the show officially began.
“Look at Yu Zhicheng’s arrogant attitude. Does he think just because his family owns a listed company, he can do whatever he wants in the entertainment world?”
“Ugh! I really can’t stand Yu Zhicheng. Why did he have to join this show? It’s one of my favorites. Because of him, I don’t even want to watch anymore.”
“Yu Zhicheng, get out of the entertainment industry! Yu Zhicheng, get out!”
Suddenly, the chat was flooded repeatedly with this message, blocking out other comments.
Meanwhile, the four groups of guests appeared calm on the surface; the cameras dutifully recorded everything.
The four children gathered to play, while the adults chatted together.
Gao Pengfei frequently glanced at the child he was looking after, asking if they wanted water or food, wiping their sweat with tissues—he cared for the child attentively.
Duan Lele and Qi Kang were less frequent but still attentive to their charges.
Only Yu Zhicheng barely paid attention to Yu Danxue, though Yu Danxue glanced at him from time to time.
“Anning, is Yu Zhicheng bullying you?” Luo Jian whispered into her ear.
He liked Anning very much—she was pretty, well-behaved, and very articulate.
“No, Xiao Sheng wouldn’t bully me,” Yu Danxue said, noticing Feng Doudou’s pale complexion and seeming concern.
“Dou Dou, are you feeling unwell?”
She reached out her chubby hand to touch Feng Doudou’s forehead. “It’s cool, no fever.”
“Did you eat something bad?”
The four had just exchanged names and nicknames.
Feng Doudou looked a bit pale, nervous and uneasy.
Hearing the question, she shook her head vigorously, timidly saying, “No, no, I’m fine.”
As if sensing that wasn’t right, she added, “Thank you for your concern.”
“I don’t know why, but Dou Dou looks really scared. Did Yu Danxue do something to her? That little girl was brought by Yu Zhicheng—I don’t think she’s a good person.”
“To the previous commenter, I suggest you see a psychiatrist. The cameras have been focused on these four kids the whole time, and Yu Danxue hasn’t done anything. Stop slandering here. I think maybe Duan Lele did something bad to Dou Dou.”
“Get lost! You must be a fan of Yu Zhicheng, right? Neither he nor his fans are good people—they’re trash. If you dare slander our kind and beautiful Lele here, we’ll come after you!”
The chat erupted again, and Yu Danxue even received insults from a small group.
Unaware of this, Yu Danxue frowned slightly, looking at Feng Doudou a few more times but said nothing else.
She turned to chat with Luo Jian, glancing sideways at the withdrawn Feng Doudou and the quiet Xiao Yun.
She felt something was off with both—one overly anxious, the other unnaturally silent.
Were they afraid of the cameras?
Xiao Sheng had told her many people fear cameras, especially children.
She leaned toward Luo Jian and whispered, covering her lips with her chubby hand, “Don’t you think Dou Dou and Xiao Yun are acting strange?”
Luo Jian scrutinized Feng Doudou and Xiao Yun carefully.
Whether it was his gaze or the camera zooming in, Feng Doudou’s face turned pale, and she shrank aside; Xiao Yun silently turned his back to the camera.
“Uncle, can we have a secret talk?” Yu Danxue asked the crew politely, standing in front of the lens.
With the director’s nod, the staff withdrew the cameras, no longer filming the four children.
Yu Danxue, assured the cameras were gone, stepped forward and took Feng Doudou and Xiao Yun’s hands, bringing Luo Jian to a corner for a private chat.
“Dou Dou, Xiao Yun, did something bad happen? Or are you just scared of the cameras?” she asked anxiously.
“No way,” Luo Jian whispered in surprise. “My parents said the main requirement to be on this show is not to fear cameras and to have a good temperament.”
“So Dou Dou and Xiao Yun shouldn’t be afraid,”
Xiao Yun bit his lip, glanced in a certain direction, and lowered his head. “Please don’t ask anymore. I just want to finish this episode and go home.”
“Please, don’t ask more,” Feng Doudou covered her mouth, her eyes brimming with tears. “Anning, Luo Jian, please don’t ask, okay?”
“I like this show, but…”
Yu Danxue sensed the seriousness of the situation but dared not press further.
She feared if she pushed, Dou Dou would burst into tears, and Xiao Yun might cry too—then it would become a big problem.
“Dou Dou, Xiao Yun, we’re good friends. If you have any trouble, come to me anytime. I’ll definitely help.”
Luo Jian added, “Me too.”
Though unclear about what had happened, he roughly understood that Dou Dou and Xiao Yun were in trouble.
He wondered why anything bad would happen while filming a variety show.
Feng Doudou wiped her tears and forced a faint smile.
No matter how much she wanted to cry, she held back, knowing she couldn’t cry during filming.
Xiao Yun opened his mouth as if to say something but ended up saying nothing.
It was useless—he was a big star.
Yu Danxue resolved to pay closer attention to Dou Dou and Xiao Yun for the rest of the show; their condition was far too unusual.
She sighed quietly to herself—being the elder, she should take care of the younger ones.
On the other side—
“Zhicheng, long time no see. How have you been lately?”
Duan Lele stood beside Yu Zhicheng, casually resting her hand on his shoulder as if it were second nature.
