Chapter 6: We're Not That Close, So Please Don’t Act Like an Elder
Gao Pengfei leaned over slightly, looking at Yu Danxue with a practiced, benevolent expression. "Little sister, are you hungry or thirsty?"
"If there’s something you’re uncomfortable discussing with Zhisheng, you can tell me. I’m happy to help you."
Yu Danxue came from a prestigious family; her father was a Chancellor, and her mother was a noblewoman of the highest rank. From a young age, her education had been far beyond that of an ordinary person. Furthermore, given her unique destiny, she had been trained extensively by her elders in a wide variety of subjects. This was why she had sensed the malice in Gao Pengfei and Duan Lele the moment she approached them.
She tilted her head, her voice carrying the soft, milky lilt characteristic of a child. "Uncle, you just said you didn’t want to be Big Brother to Little Sheng, so why are you speaking to him in such a preachy tone?"
"It’s really strange. You and Little Sheng don't seem to be close at all. The show just started; you only greeted him once."
Yu Zhisheng stood behind her, sneering as he watched Gao Pengfei. If even a child could see through it, why was Gao still putting on such an act? Was he a burlap sack? So fond of stuffing things in?
A flash of disgust crossed Gao Pengfei’s eyes. This little brat was insufferable. A pathetic little thing trying to use Yu Zhisheng to break into the entertainment industry—he would make sure she learned the consequences.
"Little sister, you’ve misunderstood. I never thought of it that way..."
"But you said it that way," Yu Danxue replied, her small face showing genuine confusion. "Uncle, if you said it, why won't you admit it? Adults love to lie so much."
She turned, pouting, to look at Yu Zhisheng. "Little Sheng, you ate my pudding yesterday and wouldn't admit it, claiming Little Zheng ate it. That was a lie."
Yu Zhisheng rubbed the bridge of his nose and gave an awkward laugh. "I was just afraid you’d be angry! Besides, I bought you five boxes of pudding, and you agreed not to bring it up again."
Yu Danxue put her hands behind her back, striking the pose of an elder. "Little Sheng, I am telling you this because lying is a bad habit. You must not pick it up, do you understand?"
Yu Zhisheng glanced at Gao Pengfei and smiled down at Yu Danxue. "Understood. I promise not to pick up the lying habits of certain people."
He knew his little great-aunt was on his side.
The girl’s remarks set the live stream chat ablaze.
[I’ve always thought Gao Pengfei was a fake. He acts like a moralizing elder to everyone, always saying "it's for your own good." It’s sickening. Who wants an elder forced upon them for no reason? I hate being preached to—even my parents don't do that to me.]
[I suspect this child is Yu Zhisheng’s secret daughter; why else would she be so protective of him? Gao Pengfei is clearly trying to help, yet Yu Zhisheng and this little brat are so vicious.]
[I see right through Gao Pengfei’s hypocrisy too. He was just playing the senior brother act, lecturing Yu Zhisheng. Yu Zhisheng is a young master from the top-tier Yu family; does he really need a lecture from Gao Pengfei? Who does Gao think he is?]
[Can Yu Zhisheng and Yu Danxue please get off this show? I don't want to see them anymore.]
"Fine, fine, if you won't listen, then forget it." Gao Pengfei put on a look of helpless resignation, though his heart was seething with rage.
"Uncle, are you sure you don't need to go to a clinic to have your head checked?" Yu Danxue asked with complete sincerity. "Why must we listen to whatever you say? Who are you to us, exactly?"
[So satisfying! The little girl said exactly what I was thinking. Seriously, Gao Pengfei, who are you to them? "Forget it," indeed. It’s ridiculous. You’re just working on the same show, barely seeing each other, and you act like an elder to lecture them.]
[I just checked the news, and Gao Pengfei has so many trending topics about his "preaching." And the weirdest part is that most of them are praising him. Is he insane? Does he think he’s a born teacher?]
[Gao Pengfei is an industry senior to Yu Zhisheng. He has every right to lecture him. You paid trolls need to stop defending that dog, Yu Zhisheng.]
[A senior? There are plenty of seniors in the industry, but none of them act like Gao Pengfei, lecturing everyone they meet. He’s just putting on a "wise elder" persona; it makes me sick.]
The more Gao Pengfei grew to hate Yu Danxue, the more he pretended to be indifferent. "I’m leaving, then." He walked off to the other side.
"Big sister," Yu Danxue said, turning to look at Duan Lele with a sweet, innocent smile.
Duan Lele felt an inexplicable shiver, but she forced a gentle smile. "Little sister, is there something you need?"
*Does this little brat really think she’s Yu Zhisheng’s relative?* Duan Lele thought. *Some stray thing from who-knows-where. Once the show is over, I’ll show her.*
Yu Danxue opened her large, clear eyes and asked in her milky voice, "Big sister, do you have a habit of putting your hands on strangers' shoulders?"
She had heard the whole story from Luo Jian and knew this bad woman had been intentionally trying to ruin Little Sheng’s reputation.
Duan Lele loathed her, but she waved her hands dismissively. "Little sister, don't talk nonsense. I don't have such a habit."
"Then why did you put your hand on Little Sheng’s shoulder? Are you two very close? Are you boyfriend and girlfriend? Or are you engaged?" Yu Danxue fired off a series of questions.
Back home, she had seen plenty of women trying to climb into her father’s, eldest brother’s, or second brother’s beds. Many of them acted just like this bad woman, deliberately creating misunderstandings to achieve their goals.
[Duan Lele, answer the question! Stop playing dumb. What is your relationship with Yu Zhisheng? We’re all dying to know.]
[Rubbish! Our brother already clarified that he has no relationship with Duan Lele and has never tried to stir up a fake romance. It’s all Duan Lele’s one-sided obsession.]
[If our Lele is interested in Yu Zhisheng, it’s his honor! How dare he not go public, and how dare he treat our Lele this way!]
[Are Duan Lele’s fans brain-damaged? Yu Zhisheng is a wealthy young master; he’s never lacked women. Why would he ever be interested in Duan Lele? Hilarious.]
Duan Lele barely suppressed the urge to slap Yu Danxue across the face. She laughed awkwardly. "Zhisheng and I are just friends..."
"We are not friends," Yu Zhisheng interrupted coldly. "Stop making things up."
"After that drama wrapped, I haven't met with you once alone. I haven't even greeted you when we’ve seen each other at events."
Yu Danxue covered her mouth in surprise, acting as if she were utterly shocked. "And yet, you’re still so casual about putting your hand on a stranger’s shoulder?"
[The little girl is so cute! How does she manage to make every movement so adorable and yet so poised?]
[I’ve got my burlap sacks ready. Any groups organizing to go steal this little girl?]
[Count me in. I must steal this little girl so I don't have to bother having my own.]
