Volume One, Chapter Five: Urging Her to Sign Quickly
After resting for several days, Gu Xingnian was finally discharged from the hospital. She disliked the lingering smell of disinfectant there.
ViVi had gone on a business trip and sent a driver to pick her up.
Dragging her still weak and soft body, Gu Xingnian returned to the apartment she had bought before her marriage. It was not large, but every inch belonged to her, filling her with a strong sense of security.
The place had been kept clean all along; the entire apartment was bright and comfortable, even the fresh flowers on the table were newly arranged.
This apartment was located in the most bustling part of the city, where land was worth its weight in gold. The view from the balcony was exceptional, overlooking the busy streets filled with endless streams of cars, and with a glance upward, one could see the towering Fu Corporation building, standing like a giant in the very center of the city.
Before marriage, she often stood here, gazing far into the distance as if trying to see through everything, simply because there was someone there, someone she cared about.
But now, her cold, detached eyes were like frost, everything had become fleeting and meaningless.
Silently, she stepped back into the room and drew the sheer curtains.
Her lower abdomen sent sharp pangs, silently reminding her of the little life she had lost.
She took a deep breath, shook her head, trying to shake off the bitterness.
There was no time to drown in sorrow—she had more important matters to attend to.
She opened her long-unused laptop; the screen lit up, and indeed, there was an unread email marked with a star in her inbox.
She clicked it open and quickly skimmed through the contents. Her gaze grew colder, and then she typed a few words on the keyboard:
“Proceed as planned.”
She hit send and closed the laptop.
Everything was done in one smooth motion, as if the weak woman from moments ago had vanished completely.
She took the medicine the doctor prescribed and swallowed it with warm water; the bitter taste spread across her tongue, but she seemed not to notice.
Fatigue surged over her like a tide. She collapsed onto the soft bed and soon fell into a deep sleep.

In the evening, at the president’s office of Fu Corporation.
Assistant Lin Qi knocked and entered to report.
“Mr. Fu, Madam was discharged today. She didn’t return to Qingyuan but moved directly into one of the apartments under her name.”
Fu Beichen was busy handling documents; upon hearing this, his pen paused briefly, nothing more.
“Hmm.”
A single syllable, revealing no emotion.
He lifted his eyes, his gaze deep and impenetrable like spilled ink.
“Where she lives is none of my concern.”
They had never lived together; they met only once or twice a month.
Lin Qi dared not respond, feeling the temperature in the room drop several degrees.
Fu Beichen tossed the signed documents aside, his tone as indifferent as if discussing the weather.
“Send her the divorce agreement. Get her to sign it as soon as possible.”
“Yes, Mr. Fu.” Lin Qi responded obediently, secretly sighing for the wife who had never truly received Fu’s care.
This couple, it seemed, was truly headed for the end.
Fu Beichen lowered his head again, staring at the numbers flickering on the screen as if the previous conversation had been about some trivial contract.
Still, the knuckles gripping his pen turned pale.
Just then, Jiang Kexin entered.
Lin Qi quickly took the divorce agreement and slipped out.
Today, she was dressed dazzlingly, every gesture exuding feminine grace.
She was in an exceptionally good mood. Who would have thought that the patient at Central Hospital was Gu Xingnian? More importantly, that she had been hospitalized for a miscarriage.
Other wives would struggle to get pregnant, but this woman was unlucky, unable even to hold a pregnancy, losing the child outright—it was truly a blessing in disguise.
Even television dramas wouldn’t dare to portray such a thing, ha!
Without a child, Gu Xingnian would never want to stay by Beichen’s side again.
The main point was, Beichen seemed unaware of this.
Undoubtedly, this gave Jiang Kexin an even better chance to maneuver.
Fu Beichen looked up, a trace of tenderness unconsciously softening his eyes.
“What brings you here?”
“Of course, to have dinner with you. I’m free lately, so I want to spend more time with you. Next week, I’m competing for a very famous drama role—just thinking about it makes me happy.”
Jiang Kexin wore a broad smile, unable to conceal her excitement.
Fu Beichen watched her happiness and a handsome curve lifted the corner of his mouth.
“For Jiang, our big star, anything she chooses won’t be ordinary.”
Jiang Kexin eagerly revealed the news, her expression full of self-satisfaction.
“‘Pearl Blossom Tomb,’ you know? It’s a very popular novel now, with millions of fans eagerly following the updates. The author is reputed to be very low-profile. Dongguan spent ten million to secure the rights. Only the top five most popular stars from online votes can compete for the female lead—and I ranked first.”
Fu Beichen certainly knew this work; after all, it was a major event in literary circles. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have let Huaguan Entertainment spend that much. Kexin was their rising star, and just last month, he initiated the acquisition plan for Huaguan.
He usually avoided the entertainment industry, but to protect her career, he invested heavily.
However, Jiang Kexin was still unaware of this plan; he wanted to surprise her in the future by gifting Huaguan as a betrothal present.
Fu Beichen nodded and gently pinched her cheek.
“Good. Then you must work hard.”

Jiang Kexin slipped onto his lap, wrapping her small hands around his neck and coquettishly said:
“Beichen, I’m so glad to have you. Since meeting you, my life has been unstoppable. I know you’ve always been supporting me behind the scenes. Thank you for backing my career.”
Fu Beichen dotingly pinched her cheek.
“As long as you’re happy.”
Yes, four years ago, in Deep Blue Bay of F country, if she hadn’t saved him, he would have perished in the sea.
He believed she deserved all the best things in the world, including his love.
Jiang Kexin rested her forehead against his smooth one, slowly leaning in to plant a sweet kiss.
Fu Beichen’s warm breath brushed her face, and he made no move to avoid it.
Suddenly, the phone rang. Jiang Kexin frowned.
Fu Beichen smiled, casually answering the call. On the other end was the excited voice of Huo Chenyuan:
“Beichen, Lu Lie is back. I heard he’s hosting a banquet today at the Jinxiu Nanyong Club for a mysterious guest. Do you think that guest might be God N?”
Fu Beichen was stunned for a moment, then a gleam flashed in his eyes.
“I’m heading there now.”
After hanging up, he pondered for a few seconds.
Lu Lie was the heir to a major financial empire in F country and also the initiator of the Global Medical Summit. Four years ago, they had briefly met in F country.
The news of God N attending was only released a few days ago, yet he had secretly arrived in Haicheng.
It seemed God N might really be here.
He had to investigate, no matter what, he must secure God N’s cooperation with Fu Corporation.
Jiang Kexin looked at him curiously.
“Beichen, do you have something to do?”
Fu Beichen stroked her hair.
“Nothing special. Let’s go eat something delicious.”
He grabbed his coat and took her by the hand as they left the office.

“Ding dong ding dong!” The doorbell rang abruptly, breaking the silence of the apartment.
Gu Xingnian was woken by the doorbell.
She shuffled in slippers, slowly walked to the door, and gently turned the knob.
The door opened!
However, standing outside was a man.
A familiar, handsome face, now marked with a few traces of maturity and steadiness.
