Volume One, Chapter Seven: Who Truly Is the God of N?
The group made their way into the clubhouse.
“Splendid Southern Banyan” was nestled in a quiet corner of the city’s most bustling district, yet it felt like a world apart.
There was no coldness of steel and concrete here—only small bridges over flowing water, pavilions and towers, each step revealing a carefully crafted scene rich with the charm of a Jiangnan garden.
Only the most prominent figures of Haicheng, and indeed the entire nation, were granted entry.
Tonight, the place shimmered with starlight.
Surrounded by her entourage, Gu Xingnian walked through the winding corridors toward the reserved "Hibiscus" private room.
She wore a simple yet elegantly designed white dress; her cool aura clashed with the surrounding clamor, yet it drew every gaze.
Lu Lie walked beside her, a half-step behind, his posture intimate yet restrained, a gentle smile playing on his fine features.
Not far away, hidden in the shadows, Fu Beichen held a wine glass, his deep eyes like a frigid pool, fixed unblinkingly on the slender figure.
Gu Xingnian?
How was she mingling with Lu Lie?
He narrowed his eyes, scanning past the crowd, capturing her profile with precision.
It was truly her.
That woman who was still officially his wife!
His gaze followed them as they moved, finally resting by the door of the "Hibiscus" private room.
The door was not fully closed, leaving a narrow gap.
Driven by an inexplicable impulse, Fu Beichen stepped forward, peering through the crack.
Lu Lie sat at the head of the table, flanked by two women.
One was Gu Xingnian.
Hah, with her bland and unremarkable appearance, how could she possibly be the formidable, enigmatic "N God"?
Fu Beichen sneered inwardly.
The other woman looked younger, her face still carrying a hint of innocence and a pleasing demeanor—definitely not the legendary figure.
Could it be...
Fu Beichen’s sharp gaze swept toward the young man beside Gu Xingnian, who was always cheerful yet carried an impressive aura.
Was he the "N God"?
And Gu Xingnian was close to this "N God"? Why had she never mentioned him before?
A wave of irritation surged inexplicably in Fu Beichen’s chest.
Just then, Gu Xingnian’s phone rang. She whispered something to Lu Lie before stepping out alone.
She walked to a quiet spot under the corridor, preparing to answer.
“Hello...”
Before the words left her lips, a powerful force suddenly yanked her away!
Dizzy and disoriented, Gu Xingnian collided with a hard, burning chest; a strong scent of alcohol mixed with a familiar icy chill hit her face.
It was Fu Beichen!
---
“Gu Xingnian, you’ve certainly grown bold!”
The man’s low, cold voice rang above her, laden with undisguised sarcasm and anger.
“If I’m not mistaken, we haven’t even divorced yet, and you already can’t stand the loneliness, rushing off to find a new man?”
His arm, like an iron clamp, gripped her waist tightly, the pressure nearly crushing her.
Pain surged through Gu Xingnian.
She struggled hard, trying to push him away, her tone icy and sharp, “Fu Beichen, what madness is this? Let me go!”
But Fu Beichen only tightened his grip, his handsome face drawing near, his eyes swirling with complicated emotions.
There was anger, unwillingness to yield, and a possessiveness even he hadn’t realized.
“Madness, am I?”
He sneered.
“Seeing my wife laughing and chatting with another man—tell me, shouldn’t I be mad?”
“President Fu, you’re quite forgetful. Have you forgotten we’re in the process of getting a divorce?”
Gu Xingnian raised her head, meeting his gaze without fear, a mocking smile curving her lips.
“Besides, when did you ever have such deep feelings for me?”
Fu Beichen’s cold eyes narrowed as he stared at her lovely face, a vivid, intimate image suddenly flashing through his mind.
“You know very well when I became unable to resist you.”
Gu Xingnian was stunned, then a blush crept onto her cheeks.
When did this man become so shameless?
“President Fu, you didn’t just corner me here to reminisce about the past, did you?”
Fu Beichen released her, his usual aloofness returning.
“You’re quite close to Lu Lie?”
“And...?”
“Then you must know who the N God is, right?” Fu Beichen finally voiced the question that had been gnawing at him.
Gu Xingnian gave him a half-smile.
“So, President Fu, you’re interested in the N God as well? Oh, I forgot—the Fu Corporation is also involved in the medical industry.”
Fu Beichen wasn’t in the mood for jokes; he cut straight to the chase.
“If you can tell me who the N God is, I will revise the divorce agreement and give you an extra 200 million.”
Gu Xingnian crossed her arms, regarding him like one would a strange beast.
“Hmm, if the Fu Corporation could collaborate with the N God, given her commercial value, it would indeed bring boundless opportunities. For such a deity, President Fu seems a bit stingy.”
For the first time, Fu Beichen saw clearly the size of this woman’s ambitions.
He reached out and pushed her back against a sturdy pillar, his bright eyes fixed intently on hers.
“How much do you want?”
Gu Xingnian shoved him away.
“President Fu, be patient. At next month’s Medical Summit, you’ll meet the living N God yourself. You can’t handle her now.”
Fu Beichen’s gaze locked tightly onto her spirited eyes, a hint of threat beneath.
“Gu Xingnian, do you dare refuse me?”
“President Fu, there are still many things in this world that money can’t buy.”
Gu Xingnian’s eyes grew cold.
This woman always had the knack for riling him up with ease!
Fu Beichen’s expression darkened to the point where it seemed liquid might drip from it.
“Gu Xingnian, don’t forget who you are! For the Fu Corporation’s anniversary celebration, Grandpa personally requested your attendance. I hope you won’t disappoint him.”
---
Fu Beichen adjusted his slightly wrinkled suit collar, resuming his lofty demeanor, his tone commanding and unquestionable.
Again with Grandpa!
Gu Xingnian sneered inwardly.
He always used Grandpa to pressure her, but this would be the last time.
She took a deep breath, suppressing her irritation, her face donning an impeccable fake smile.
“Don’t worry, President Fu. A performance is still a performance—I won’t embarrass you.”
Having said that, she even nodded slightly, graceful as if their heated confrontation had never occurred.
“If there’s nothing else, President Fu, I’ll be going back now.”
She turned and walked resolutely back toward the “Hibiscus” private room, her silhouette resolute and upright.
Fu Beichen stood still, watching the door close behind her, cutting off his view.
He clenched his fist, veins bulging on the back of his hand.
Damn it!
How did this woman manage to infuriate him so?
He pulled out his phone and quickly dialed a number.
“Hold the divorce agreement for now. Send it after the anniversary celebration.”
On the other end, Lin Qi was baffled but didn’t hesitate, turning the car around to retrieve the documents he had just delivered.
---
Inside the private room.
Gu Xingnian returned to her seat, the coldness on her face melting away instantly, replaced by calm composure.
It was as if the fierce exchange with Fu Beichen outside had been a trivial aside.
Lu Lie looked at her with concern.
“Are you alright? You were out for quite a while.”
Gu Xingnian picked up her chopsticks and took a bite of the exquisite snack before her, speaking casually.
“I’m fine, just ran into a lunatic.”
Seeing she didn’t wish to say more, Lu Lie didn’t press further, instead becoming even more attentive in serving her dishes.
“Try this—hibiscus shrimp balls, their specialty here.”
“And this, crab meat lion’s head meatballs, they melt in your mouth.”
He kept placing dishes into Gu Xingnian’s bowl, his movements natural and considerate.
Gu Xingnian didn’t refuse, quietly eating.
The atmosphere was just right.
Cheng Xinyao eyed the attentive senior brother playfully, blinking.
“Senior brother, I want some of those shrimp balls too.”
Lu Lie glanced at her coolly.
“Get it yourself.”
Cheng Xinyao was left speechless...
