The fourth floor.

Even though it was only a four-story house, it had elevators installed throughout.

The elevator opened directly into a vast living room decorated in traditional Chinese style.

Qiao Nian'an had not seen a single air conditioner in the Fu family's old residence, yet the entire place was remarkably comfortable. She knew it used a five-constant environmental control system, which continuously supplied fresh air around the clock, filtered out pollutants, and kept the temperature pleasantly cool throughout the house.

Qiao Nian'an's room had been arranged directly opposite Fu Yunzhen's.

Before Fu Yunzhen entered his room, he saw Fu Jingchuan coming upstairs to find Qiao Nian'an.

“Nian'an, you know I've liked you since high school. I repeated all those years of school just so I could meet you.”

Qiao Nian'an raised an eyebrow. “You were too stupid to get into college, and now you want to pin that on me? You're unbelievable!”

Fu Jingchuan had originally intended to confess his feelings and move her, but he had not expected her to reject such tactics outright.

It was true that he had been wrong to use her elder brother to force her into marrying him.

But who could blame him when he had fallen in love with her at first sight?

He had noticed her during freshman orientation.

Unfortunately, he had gotten himself into trouble at the time, and his parents had been forced to send him abroad to lie low. Only after the scandal had died down could he return.

Otherwise, he would have won her over back in her first year of high school.

Perhaps he would even have grown tired of her by now.

But now, he was desperate to marry her.

Not for any other reason than to provoke his younger uncle.

And to disgust him while he was at it.

After all, his uncle clearly had an unusual interest in Qiao Nian'an.

Fu Jingchuan had sent people to investigate the relationship between Fu Yunzhen and Qiao Nian'an, but they had found nothing beyond the fact that the two had attended the same high school and university.

“An'an, can we sit down and have a proper talk?”

Qiao Nian'an looked at him. “The five hundred thousand was merely my fee for accompanying you back to the Fu residence for dinner. If you want to chat, that's extra—another five hundred thousand.”

Fu Jingchuan saw that every other word out of her mouth concerned money, but there was nothing he could do. If he wanted someone to do something for him, he had to pay.

“I'll write you an IOU first and give you everything together later.”

Qiao Nian'an was perfectly clearheaded. “I don't accept credit. If you have no money, what are you doing trying to court someone?”

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Fu Yunzhen standing behind the door of his room.

So this man enjoyed eavesdropping, too!

Seeing her growing impatient, Fu Jingchuan said, “An'an, my great-grandfather was right. You're much better than all the girlfriends I had before. You look cleaner than they did, too.”

“I've thought things through carefully. As long as you sincerely live with me, I won't make things difficult for your family, and I won't fool around outside anymore. From now on, my body and my life will belong to you.”

Qiao Nian'an found it absurd. Looking at him, she said speechlessly, “You are nothing but unwanted goods. Who wants your body or your life? If you sincerely want to settle down with me, give me money. I want a lot of money—tens of billions, hundreds of billions, trillions. The more, the better.”

Fu Jingchuan's reputation was terrible. He was a dissipated playboy, and any woman who married him would be doomed to suffer.

Besides, he had never lacked women. Unknown actresses often exposed him for taking advantage of them without paying.

There was no way she would want such a disgusting man.

If she had to marry someone anyway, why not marry Fu Yunzhen, a walking vault?

She would have to be completely out of her mind to marry Fu Jingchuan!

“I’m trying to open my heart to you, and all you can talk about is money. You clearly have no intention of living a proper life with me. I’m sincerely discussing our marriage, yet you keep bringing up money. If you marry me, the Fu family won’t mistreat you. You’ll never lack food, clothing, or anything else you need.”

“I’ve never treated a woman with such sincerity before. If I didn’t want to marry you or build a life with you, why would I have resorted to such extreme measures to force you into marrying me? From the moment I made up my mind to marry you, I stopped wanting to look for other women. But you kept pushing me away again and again. I’m a man with normal needs. I only went looking for other women because I couldn’t help myself…”

Fu Jingchuan had changed a great deal for Qiao Nian'an, yet she was simply too blind to notice.

If she had been any other woman, she would have been dying to drag him straight to the marriage registry the moment he said he wanted to marry her!

Qiao Nian'an increasingly felt that Fu Jingchuan had come into this world purely to provide comic relief and make up the numbers.

He could even blame all this on her?

Any woman who married him would probably suffer from depression after the wedding.

This man did not merely make empty promises—he knew how to manipulate people morally, too.

Suppressing her anger, Qiao Nian'an said, “If you haven't taken your medication, go take it now. And stop disgusting me here.”

With that, she slammed the door shut.

“Oh!”

Fu Jingchuan had wedged his foot into the gap to prevent her from closing it.

He had not expected her to show him the slightest mercy. She pushed the door shut with all her strength, and he hastily pulled his foot back before it was crushed.

He stood there clutching his foot, hopping from side to side and howling in pain.

Yet the more Qiao Nian'an treated him this way, the more it awakened his desire to conquer her.

There was no woman he had ever wanted who had managed to escape him.

Besides, Qiao Nian'an was now his fiancée. No one could take her away.

Not even his uncle, Fu Yunzhen.

If he wanted to marry Qiao Nian'an, he needed money.

Ten billion.

At present, only his uncle had the financial power to lend him that much.

As long as he could produce ten billion, he believed Qiao Nian'an would marry him.

Then he could simply have her bring the ten billion back as her dowry.

Fu Jingchuan was about to knock on Fu Yunzhen's door when he remembered his uncle's strange habit: Fu Yunzhen went to bed punctually at eight or nine every evening and allowed no one to disturb him.

He did not want to bother Fu Yunzhen at this hour. If he angered his uncle, borrowing the ten billion would probably become impossible.

In the end, Fu Jingchuan could only slink downstairs in defeat.

Qiao Nian'an took a shower, changed into a clean nightgown, and prepared to lie down for the night.

She could not even be bothered to look at her phone.

Just as she turned off the light, someone knocked on the door.

Had the Fu family's servants already finished taking her clothes to the dry cleaner?

Qiao Nian'an got up and went to open the door.

But the moment she opened it, the door was shoved inward from the outside. In the next instant, a tall shadow enveloped her.

When she came to her senses, the imposing man had closed in on her and casually locked the door behind him.

Qiao Nian'an stared at the dark figure before her and swallowed hard. “F-Fu Yunzhen, why are you coming into my room in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?”

Fu Yunzhen pressed her against the wall, making her face it. With one hand, he lifted both her arms above her head and held them there, while his other arm wrapped tightly around her from behind.

“I’ve missed you so much I’m going mad.”

He had remained behind the door, listening to everything Fu Jingchuan had said to her. Fortunately, she had not played along and had drawn a clear line between herself and Fu Jingchuan.

That pleased him greatly.

But it was nowhere near enough.

He missed her.

He missed her terribly.

The moment Fu Jingchuan left, he had been unable to resist entering her room.

He simply could not stand seeing her alone with another man.

Qiao Nian'an was nearly suffocated by his embrace.

“Is something wrong with you and your nephew? Did you come to the wrong room?”

At that moment, Fu Yunzhen was like a teddy bear in heat.

“Mmm. You smell so good.”

Fu Yunzhen lowered his eyes and saw her dressed in a loose, languid nightgown.

He swallowed hard. His sensual Adam's apple bobbed as his breathing grew hot and heavy.

Held tightly in his arms, Qiao Nian'an was already warm from her shower. The moment he touched her, she felt unbearably hot.

The spacious room even seemed to make it difficult for her to breathe.

“Y-You… let me go…”

Qiao Nian'an only wanted to get away from him.

But he had no intention of letting her go. The more she struggled, the tighter he held her, sending a shiver of alarm across her scalp.

Fu Yunzhen leaned close to her ear, his deep, magnetic voice filled with irresistible power.

“Baby, don't send me away, all right?”
