Chapter 59: Encountering a Master
"Are you Sister Gu's daughter?" Wang Can asked with a sudden realization.
He had expected Gu Xinmei's daughter to be quite attractive, but he never imagined she could be this gorgeous.
She was actually a match for Xia Kewewe and Jiang Yixue.
Gu Feifei covered her mouth and giggled. "If we're going by that logic, wouldn't that make me have to call you uncle?"
Her smiling, crescent-shaped eyes were sweet and charming enough to melt anyone's heart. He could only imagine how many boys on the campus of Shenghai University of Music fell for that smile.
"We're the same age, just call me Wang Can."
"Alright, classmate Wang Can."
Gu Feifei replied sweetly, then suddenly widened her eyes. "You couldn't possibly be that Wang Can who sang an original song during the freshman military training at Shenghai University, right?"
"That's right, it's me."
Wang Can nodded, then asked with curiosity, "How do you know my name, though?"
He remembered the online reports only mentioned a student from Shenghai University without revealing his name.
After getting a confirmed answer, Gu Feifei blinked playfully. "How do I know...? That's a secret."
With that, she rubbed her arms. "Um... could I borrow a jacket? It's a bit chilly this morning, and on top of that, I have to move these freezer boxes..."
Only then did Wang Can notice she was only wearing a thin T-shirt, so he took off his jacket and handed it over.
"Thanks, boss~"
Gu Feifei casually draped his oversized men's jacket over her shoulders, the hem swaying and inadvertently outlining her slender waistline.
Her pleated skirt fluttered gently with her steps, and her faintly visible slender legs formed a wonderful contrast with the oversized jacket, unexpectedly creating a unique vibe that was both pure and sexy.
Wang Can watched her retreating figure and couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
With great power comes great responsibility.
This girl before him who didn't even know how to take care of herself in changing weather would probably require a bit more careful "looking after" from now on.
Soon, Gu Feifei pushed the second box of goods in from outside.
After neatly arranging the goods inside the freezer, Gu Feifei suddenly hesitated as she took off the jacket.
"Um... it might smell like my perfume... If your girlfriend minds... I can go explain it clearly so I don't cause you any trouble."
"It's fine, I'm single," Wang Can replied casually.
Gu Feifei's eyes lit up, and she smiled with a sense of relief. "That's good then... Can I borrow your phone for a second?"
"Here."
Wang Can didn't think much of it. Assuming Gu Feifei didn't have her phone on her and wanted to report the situation to her mother, he handed over his V3, which had Gu Xinmei's number saved on it.
Gu Feifei looked at the Motorola he handed her, widened her eyes slightly, and exclaimed, "Wow, a V3! This was my dream phone back in the day!"
"?"
This was the first time Wang Can had ever encountered such a reaction to someone seeing him use a V3.
And Gu Feifei's next move was even more brilliant. She used that very V3 to call her own number, then pulled out her own phone and handed it to Wang Can.
"Boss, type in a nickname for me."
A nine-out-of-ten beauty holding out a phone and looking at him with eager eyes made Wang Can feel a long-lost fluttering of his heart.
This girl's game seemed quite advanced.
However, he was a seasoned veteran after all, so he quickly steadied his mind, took Gu Feifei's phone, and typed in the two words: "Hubby."
"Huh?"
Gu Feifei, leaning in close, instantly turned bright red. "Boss, you're so bad! I'm going to tell my mom when I get back!"
"Just kidding."
As Wang Can smiled and retyped "A-Can," the faint scent of gardenia from the girl's hair lingered at the tip of his nose.
"A-Can... not bad~"
Gu Feifei took back her phone, made a telephone gesture by her ear, and walked backward toward the doorway.
"Well, A-Can, I'll be heading out first. Thanks for lending me your jacket!"
Morning light pierced through the half-open back door, tracing a golden beam in the air that cast a soft halo around her, making even her hair shimmer with fine golden highlights.
Everything was just right.
Wang Can stood in place, gazing at this beautiful scene, while the light jacket in his hand still carried a faint, elusive fragrance of youth.
It seemed he had met a master.
......
After leaving the fried chicken shop, Wang Can headed straight to the Office of the University Youth League Committee.
Pushing open the office doors, he found the place mostly empty, save for a few teachers working overtime. They glanced up at Wang Can, then lowered their heads to continue working out of sheer habit.
Wang Can gave a slight nod in acknowledgment and walked familiarly toward Zhang Jiujiang's office.
Pushing the door open, a refined wave of tea fragrance rushed toward him.
Zhang Jiujiang was sitting at the tea table, intently brewing the Biluochun tea Wang Can had brought last time. Sunlight streamed through the blinds, forming pillars of light amidst the curling wisps of tea steam.
"You're here? Have a seat." Zhang Jiujiang looked up with a warm smile, fine wrinkles creasing at the corners of his eyes.
Wang Can sat down opposite him and accepted the teacup Zhang Jiujiang handed over.
The tea infusion was clear and bright, tender green tea leaves uncurling in the water, their silvery hairs vaguely visible in the sunlight.
"This tea is indeed exceptional."
Zhang Jiujiang took a small sip, squinting his eyes to savor it slowly. "Silver hairs prominent, pure fragrance, a lingering sweet aftertaste. Top-grade Biluochun, it must have cost a pretty penny, right?"
Wang Can took a sip and smiled, shaking his head. "Good tea still needs an expert like you to appreciate it, Secretary Zhang. With my palate, even the best tea tastes pretty much the same to me."
The second half of that sentence wasn't a lie; he genuinely couldn't tell much of a difference.
It was just like audiophile headphones—some people couldn't tell the difference between a few hundred yuan headphones and thousands of yuan ones, while others could analyze everything down to the highs, lows, and materials in meticulous detail.
"You rascal."
Zhang Jiujiang smiled helplessly and shook his head, setting down his teacup and adopting a serious expression. "Let's get down to business. Regarding the leadership's request for the event to break through mainstream circles that I mentioned to you last night, do you have any issues?"
Wang Can put away his smile and thought seriously for a moment. "Secretary Zhang, what I want to confirm is: must this 'breakthrough' be achieved during the live broadcast itself, or can it happen after the event has concluded?"
If it had to happen during the live broadcast, given the current time and conditions, his only option would be to forcefully throw money at promotions.
The problem, however, was that even if he spent heavily to make Shenghai University's welcome gala trend, given Douya's current infrastructure and streamer count, they wouldn't be able to retain most of that traffic, making that spent money a terrible waste.
On the other hand, if the breakthrough could happen after the welcome gala ended, there would be many more options available, and Douya could gradually absorb the incoming traffic.
Zhang Jiujiang gave an ambiguous reply: "The leadership's exact words were only that it must break through."
After that, he said nothing more, offering no personal interpretation as if he wanted Wang Can to figure it out for himself.
Wang Can cursed "old fox" inwardly in his heart.
This was the typical conversational art practiced by leaders like Zhang Jiujiang—between the lines, they always left enough room for subordinates to improvise, seemingly encouraging initiative.
But what was the reality?
If things succeeded, it was due to his visionary guidance; if things failed, it meant you hadn't understood his words thoroughly enough.
Wang Can saw right through this trick and immediately said, "Understood, Secretary Zhang. I guarantee the mission will be accomplished."
What is not explicitly forbidden by law is permitted... Since there are no rigid rules, he would assume breaking through afterward was acceptable.
Hearing this, Zhang Jiujiang was actually taken aback.
He had originally prepared to spar with Wang Can for a few rounds, not expecting this young man to catch on so quickly.
"What on earth does this kid's family do..."
Zhang Jiujiang muttered to himself inwardly, "How does he seem to know a little bit about everything?"
