Volume One, Chapter 14: Fu Jinnian Disagrees?
What?
Xie Anyue’s eyes widened in disbelief—how could she possibly apologize to Chu Mian!
But the man before her was Fu Jinnian, the second young master of the Fu family, whom even Fu Yun called “uncle.” He was an elder to both of them...
Biting her lip tightly, Xie Anyue turned her head to Fu Yun, casting him a pleading look.
How could Fu Yun dare to act out in front of Fu Jinnian?
He understood Xie Anyue’s grievance, but facing Fu Jinnian, he could only swallow his sharpness and quietly comfort her, “Anyue, just apologize to Chu Mian for now. Uncle is still here...”
Hearing this, Xie Anyue’s face instantly turned pale as paper.
She had thought that by clinging to Fu Yun, she would rise above others. At the very least, as the future lady of the Fu family, many would seek to associate with her, eager to treat her as an honored guest.
Yet now, she couldn’t even handle Chu Mian!
In that moment, she couldn’t help but pay attention to Fu Jinnian.
Though the Fu family’s second young master was lame, he had complete control over Fu Yun.
He didn’t seem very old, probably around twenty-eight or twenty-nine?
Silently putting aside those thoughts, she looked up at Chu Mian. “Sister, I’m sorry. I misunderstood you. I apologize.”
Chu Mian raised an eyebrow, not expecting Xie Anyue to be so humble and compliant.
Chu Xian and Lin Yueru snorted coldly. Lin Yueru glanced Xie Anyue up and down. “She’s quite pretty, but her intentions are far from righteous! Let’s end this here today. I hope you won’t come to my house again and disturb my daughter Mianmian’s peace. Let’s go.”
Xie Anyue clenched back her anger. “Alright, Auntie. Goodbye.”
“Better not see you again. Didn’t my mother say clearly not to come anymore? The farther you stay away, the better!” Chu Xian was equally blunt. Thinking of Xie Anyue’s attitude earlier, he was furious!
Fu Yun had never been belittled like this before. He clenched his teeth, about to explode in anger, but a cold glare from Fu Jinnian made him break out in a sweat. He quickly nodded, hurriedly helping Xie Anyue into the car, and they sped away in a flash.
“Mianmian, your brother and I will go in first. This... Mr. Fu, please look after her,” Lin Yueru said, clearly wanting to avoid speaking to Fu Jinnian, and pulled Chu Xian briskly into the thatched hut.
Seeing this, Chu Mian closed her eyes slightly.
After brief interaction, she knew Lin Yueru was not an impolite person; rather, she carried herself with a noble grace. Yet at this moment, Lin Yueru’s attitude toward Fu Jinnian was somewhat puzzling.
As for Fu Jinnian, he seemed unconcerned and instructed Zhou Qin to hand over the gifts they had prepared earlier to Chu Mian. “Miss Chu, it’s getting late, so we won’t disturb you further. These are some supplements I bought for your uncle and aunt along the way. We came in a hurry and didn’t prepare well. I hope you can say a good word for me to them.”
Say a good word?
Chu Mian glanced at the dozen or so boxes of various supplements Zhou Qin placed before her, feeling a bit helpless.
She looked at Fu Jinnian, who was already preparing to leave.
There was a faint sense of embarrassment in the air.
Before he got into the car, Chu Mian suddenly said, “Mr. Fu, please take care on your journey.”
“All right, Miss Chu, you go inside first.”
“Oh.”
Without delay, Chu Mian lifted the gifts and turned to go, leaving Fu Jinnian and Zhou Qin outside.
Zhou Qin looked at his expressionless boss, then at the row of thatched huts, a black line appearing on his forehead.
“Boss, are we...”
It seemed like they had been abandoned?
Fu Jinnian glanced up at him, resting his hands on the back of the car seat, and with a forceful move, sat down. He then looked down at Zhou Qin with a domineering gaze. “Not leaving yet?”
Startled, Zhou Qin quickly folded the wheelchair into the trunk, jumped into the front seat, and drove off.
Inside the hut, Chu Xian and Lin Yueru stood by an old, torn paper window, peering out through the holes.
Only after the black SUV had driven away did Chu Xian snort coldly. “That Fu dog! Shameless to the core. We had agreed to break the engagement. I just went to answer a call, and Fu dog refused to release my sister from the contract. Does he intend to cling to her for life?”
Hearing this, Lin Yueru frowned. “Fu Jinnian refused?”
“Yes!” Her sharply arched eyebrows furrowed even tighter.
Turning to look at Chu Mian, who had carried the gifts inside and sat down at the wooden table, tapping away at her keyboard on her phone, seemingly unconcerned by today’s events, Lin Yueru grew worried.
She leaned over with a smile and asked, “Daughter, what did you think of Fu Jinnian when you met him today?”
“Hm?” Chu Mian was puzzled but answered honestly, “He looks alright, and he’s quite gentlemanly in his words and actions. Why, Mom?”
“He’s disabled.”
“That can be cured.”
Chu Mian spoke truthfully.
She had touched it herself. Though Fu Jinnian’s leg was a bit strange, she could heal it.
From a doctor’s perspective, it was a routine matter. But to Lin Yueru’s ears, it carried a different meaning.
Seeing her daughter’s indifferent expression, Lin Yueru’s face darkened immediately.
Could her daughter have been enchanted by that Fu Jinnian?
Never mind whether Fu Jinnian was disabled—his background alone...
Sigh! He was destined to be a dangerous figure.
Chu Mian’s phone vibrated. She glanced at it and stood up. “I need to take a call.”
She left the hut and went under the old locust tree outside.
Chu Xian and Lin Yueru once again stood by the window, peering out, but too far away to hear anything. They only saw Chu Mian’s brows relax and tighten intermittently, as if discussing something important.
Outside, Chu Mian answered a call from her partner, Jiang Huai.
Jiang Huai was lying in a bathtub, her hair wrapped in a drying cap, face covered in a mask, long legs covered in foam, resting against the tub’s edge and gently swaying. She mumbled, “Mianmian, that person insists you write a song for him. He said if you don’t write it, he won’t accept it!”
“Is it anonymous?” Chu Mian asked.
“No,” Jiang Huai sighed. “He mentioned anonymity before, but I told him you don’t take anonymous orders. This time, he revealed his identity outright. He’s the popular movie emperor, nicknamed the ‘Fair-faced Young Star’—Mo Li!”
Mo Li?
Chu Mian quickly searched her mind for information about him.
The fiery movie emperor Mo Li—she had some impression of him. Handsome and talented, he started as a singing and dancing artist, then was discovered by a film company to star in many hit dramas. His popularity was booming.
Jiang Huai seemed quite interested in Mo Li, her coquettish laughter drifting into Chu Mian’s ear. “Mo Li looks the part, but he’s a bit... effeminate. I think he’s a sissy!”
Uh.
Chu Mian’s rounded nails picked at the dry bark on the tree trunk.
She didn’t know much about Mo Li, just that he had been very popular recently, so the name was familiar.
Lately, she didn’t feel like writing songs.
“Do you know how much Mo Li’s assistant offered for the payment?”
