Su Yu held a pair of scissors, clipping the herbs thoughtfully as she pondered how to deliver them to Li Hanyan. Si Yan lounged lazily in the rattan chair behind her, his clothing loosely draped and unbuttoned at the collar, exposing an air of effortless wildness and tension that seemed to permeate the surrounding atmosphere.
A maid stood nearby beside the chair, her face flushed and heart racing as she attended to Si Yan. She was newly hired at the ancestral castle, a place where the servants were strangely averse to serving their masters directly, preferring instead to sweep the outer courtyards.
Such a fortunate opportunity had fallen to her—work that was easy and unburdensome, and she could be close to the master himself. Her looks were decent, and Fiona was confident she could seduce Si Yan into her bed. Though she couldn’t become the lady of the house, being a concubine would still be a considerable improvement over mere labor.
Huang Yu, who had served by Master Si’s side for a long time, had witnessed countless similar situations. He immediately discerned the maid’s little schemes. Not to mention, Master Si was currently accompanied by Miss Su and would not entertain anyone else. Even without Miss Su, he would never be interested in someone like that.
Let her be. If she kept her head down and stayed out of trouble, she’d probably be assigned to sweep the outer courtyard. But if she started hopping about and caused misunderstandings in front of Miss Su, well—she’d only have herself to blame.
Si Yan took a slow sip of red wine, his mood unusually cheerful these days. He had already begun preparations for the wedding; no one’s grievances could be allowed to harm his treasure. So, at the earliest, the marriage would be within a month. Still, that felt somewhat long.
His gaze never left Su Yu. These past few days, apart from visiting Li Hanyan, his little treasure had made no missteps. With a hostage in hand, whether she wanted to marry or not, she had no choice.
Su Yu was speechless. She wished she could make a move, but every time she tried, he followed closely, clinging to her as if she were trapped outside his cage, only allowed a glance at him. Just one glance—and then he carried her away.

Soon after, another mercenary stepped forward to report.
“Master Si,” he said, “the second young lady of the Fei family has arrived at the castle. She’s come to find Miss Su to go shopping for clothes together!”
Si Yan’s eyes darkened, his hand resting on the armrest of the rattan chair, his fingers tapping rhythmically. He beckoned Su Yu without a trace of emotion in his voice.
“Darling, come here.”
A powerful sense of oppression washed over Su Yu, causing her heart to race. She was not deaf; she had heard the report clearly. The tone of the man’s voice foretold trouble. Every time he called her like that, something bad was bound to happen.
She moved hesitantly toward him, careful not to get too close. But Si Yan gave her no chance to keep her distance. Suddenly, her wrist was seized by his burning hand and pulled roughly over. She was forced to sit in his arms.
He gripped her face, lowering his gaze to look at her with a sly smile. “Darling, Fei Luo Wei... just another woman trying to climb into your man’s bed.”
“When did you and your rival get so close? When did you become so familiar with her?”
Su Yu felt the searing heat of his palm against her skin. Yet, one thing he said was incorrect—they were only rivals because they both liked Si Yan. Now, their relationship was merely transactional, each taking what they needed.
Su Yu grasped his hand, her face surely flushed from his grip. She met those dangerous eyes. His words and displeased expression clearly showed he suspected her of trying to use the Fei family’s aid to leave him.

Perhaps she would have done so before, but not now.
Brother Hanyan was still in his hands; she could not abandon him. Besides, she never truly believed Fei Luo Wei could help her escape. She did not want to cause harm to another person again.
“I—I haven’t,” Su Yu stifled her fear and forced herself to explain. “I only met her once. I didn’t arrange to meet her—it was she who approached me.”
“When you took me to the gambling city, I ran into her in the restroom. She leaned close to me then and offered me money to leave you. She said only someone with her background deserved you.”
Afraid he wouldn’t believe her, she hurriedly added, “She also said you were just playing with me, and once she grew tired of you, you’d toss me aside.”
“One would be foolish to fall for the same trap twice.”
Su Yu might have exaggerated a little, but she saw a flicker of emotion in Si Yan’s eyes. His large hand gently caressed her beautiful face.
“Darling,” he murmured, “you haven’t just fallen in that trap twice—you fall every time and never learn.”
“I’ve told you before, the last person who betrayed me was turned into a living corpse and thrown into the sea to feed the sharks.”
Su Yu shivered at his words; she knew he would carry them out to the letter. An inexplicable pain coursed through her body, causing a slight tremble.
“What are you trembling for?” he asked.
“If you really make a living corpse, I’ll only make your Hanyan brother in the dungeon into one—a dried mummy!”
Tears spilled from Su Yu’s eyes, falling relentlessly. He didn’t believe her and wanted to kill Li Hanyan.
Seeing her tears, Si Yan grew agitated. “No crying!”
