Volume One, Chapter Three: His Resolve
Si Yan looked at Su Yu, who had her head covered, and spoke firmly, "Come out!"
"If you don’t want your grandfather to be in trouble, you’d better listen to me."
These words struck right at Su Yu’s soft spot.
She quickly kicked off the blanket, her eyes brimming with tears as she looked at him, her voice both pitiful and hoarse. "What are you trying to do? My grandfather saved your life once. How can you be so hateful?"
"I’m telling you, if anything happens to my grandfather, I won’t let you go in the afterlife!"
Si Yan grabbed the back of her neck and lifted her up. "Alright then, a romance between a human and a ghost."
"I’ve never been with a ghost before," he said, excitement flashing in his eyes.
Su Yu had truly become a ghost.
He intended to keep this ghost by his side.
"You… you pervert," Su Yu said, her eyes reddening with anger. What on earth was he always thinking about?
Now that she had turned into a ghost, she had no intention of provoking him — it was just bad luck!
Si Yan paid no mind; he was used to her insults.
Back and forth, it was always the same few curses. If she wasn’t calling him a pervert, she was calling him crazy.
No harsher words would ever come from her mouth. The little bitter melon really was well-raised by her grandfather — she didn’t even know how to curse properly!
"As long as you behave, your grandfather is my grandfather. I will ‘treat’ him well," Si Yan said, holding her in his arms. "Since you care so much about him, I’ll send someone to bring him here, so you won’t keep trying to run away."
"…"
Her grandfather was not his grandfather.
Nonsense!
Grandpa didn’t have such a big great-nephew; I’m his only granddaughter.
She hated him.
She hated everything here — this was Wangcheng, a border town on the northern frontier, a gray area.
This place was beyond the reach of law enforcement, without any security.
Bullets flew, and as long as you had money, you could get your hands on a gun.
Here, the strong ruled.
Even human life was as insignificant as an ant.
And the king here was the man before her — Si Yan, the head of the Qierman family.
Though her home was small, it was at least safe!
Seeing Su Yu remain silent, Si Yan clearly understood she just didn’t want to stay by his side and was making excuses.
"Huang Yu…" Si Yan felt a heaviness in his heart and was about to speak.
"No," Su Yu interrupted, "My grandfather is old; he can’t withstand any turmoil. Can you give me back my phone? I want to call him and let him know I’m safe."
"I just want to tell my grandfather I’m alright so he can stop worrying."
Her eyes were red. Now that Si Yan was watching her so closely, she wouldn’t find a chance to escape anytime soon.
She couldn’t let Si Yan control her grandfather; otherwise, it would be even harder to get away.
She hadn’t been home for months — her grandfather must be worried sick.
Si Yan’s dark eyes fixed on her, but he said nothing.
Su Yu felt uneasy under his gaze and clutched his sleeve. "I beg you, if anything happens to my grandfather…"
"What will I do…"
Her voice grew increasingly sorrowful, her emotions spiraling out of control.
Her words choked off, unable to continue.
"I was wrong. I won’t run anymore."
"Just let me call my grandfather once. Do whatever you want with me after that!"
Si Yan stared at the pitiful expression on the woman in his arms, an inexplicable irritation stirring within him. His fingertips traced repeatedly at the corner of her lips.
She kept saying she didn’t want her only relative to fall into his hands.
She just didn’t want him to hold her weak spot; she still wanted to run.
She didn’t love me!
"Darling, you’ve forgotten you have no right to negotiate with me. Your body was already violated last night," Si Yan said, lightly licking a wound at the edge of her lips, his meaning clear.
"I no longer believe your words," she said.
Nine out of ten things she said were lies to him!
"Don’t keep mentioning your grandfather. Whether you get to call him or not depends on your behavior!" Si Yan ordered firmly, staring into her pure yet seductive eyes. "Now, kiss me."
