Chapter 23: You Are Truly the Paragon of Righteousness!
“What do you mean?” Tao Zizhan grew serious.
“I just feel that you’re incredibly reliable, and you even want to help me get back the money I was scammed out of! You’re truly a good person, so I want to give you a chance to make a contribution!”
The girl’s excited voice came from the other side. “I’ve sent you the address in a private message! Hurry up and bring people over now!”
The call ended shortly after.
Tao Zizhan held his phone silently for a moment, then gathered his team and headed out, making his way to the address she had sent.
It was a newly opened residential complex, still under construction, with no residents yet. Tao Zizhan found it odd that Jiang Muyu would send him this location, but thinking that there might really be some clue there, he knew they absolutely could not miss it.
After hanging up, Jiang Muyu exchanged a reassuring glance with Liu Ge across the way. “Don’t be afraid, the police will be there soon.”
“All right.”
Since Jiang Muyu said so, Liu Ge didn’t want to wait by the door any longer. He quickly took his phone and went downstairs to the main entrance to meet the police.
In less than ten minutes, Tao Zizhan and several officers arrived in a team.
Liu Ge briefly explained the general situation to them.
Seeing Jiang Muyu again through the phone’s camera gave Tao Zizhan a headache.
Did she really love streaming that much? She had just come back from the police station and immediately started streaming again, and trouble happened right away. He had no idea what kind of constitution this person had.
“Hello, Officer! Long time no see! Let’s hurry up and go to that room! Everyone in my livestream is waiting impatiently!”
- [Isn’t this the same handsome cop who appeared in the previous livestream? I remember him!]
- [I think he was at the car accident last night! What a coincidence to meet again!]
- [Host, how do you even know people like this? We have no idea about your connections.]
- [What’s really inside that house? Can you stop fangirling and focus on the house?]
“Let’s go upstairs!”
Tao Zizhan also wanted to know what was inside that room. If Jiang Muyu was playing him, he would make sure to detain her for a couple of days for false reporting.
Liu Ge and the other workers led Tao Zizhan and his team upstairs, stopping at the door of that room.
“Officer, it’s right here! This room feels off.”
Tao Zizhan had them open the door, and an inexplicable chill spread from inside the room, even at the threshold they could feel it.
It was nearly forty degrees outside, yet standing at this door gave an eerie coldness that made the hairs on their skin rise.
“Officer Tao, you have to go in quickly!” Jiang Muyu urged.
Tao Zizhan frowned slightly. “Jiang Muyu, what exactly is in this room? Did you set some kind of trap inside?”
“How could you not trust me, Officer Tao? I called you here because of your integrity! People like you would scare away any demon or ghost! Now, charge in!”
Tao Zizhan was speechless.
Jiang Muqing, standing behind Jiang Muyu, didn’t know what to say. She was a police officer, after all—it was unlikely that just because Jiang Muyu told them to enter, they would agree so easily.
And yet, in the next moment, several officers stepped through the camera frame and entered.
Jiang Muqing was stunned. Did they really believe her? Weren’t they afraid she was just fooling around?
- [They went in, they went in! So exciting!]
- [Liu Ge, stop standing at the door, get inside!]
- [Yeah, what’s really in there? All the viewers in the livestream are waiting!]
- [So scary, I really need a handsome big brother to come keep me company…]
- [I’m not scared. I believe the host will protect us!]
Jiang Muyu clasped her fists. “Thanks to all the fans for trusting me! Liu Ge, don’t worry, just come in with us.”
Hearing this, Liu Ge finally took his phone and followed inside.
But the camera moved slowly—he was clearly a bit afraid.
Inside the room, Tao Zizhan and several officers began their inspection. It was a bare shell of a room, with nothing visible except the four rough walls and windows to check.
The moment Tao Zizhan stepped inside, he felt certain Jiang Muyu was playing him. There really seemed to be nothing here. The chill they felt at the door had also faded significantly.
There was truly nothing strange.
Just as he was about to tell Liu Ge there was no problem, a faint but unmistakable stench suddenly reached his nose.
The others didn’t notice it, but Tao Zizhan, as a police officer, immediately recognized it—it was the smell of decaying flesh.
He looked around at the rough, unfinished walls carefully, but saw no abnormalities.
Yet the stench was undeniably real.
“Officer Tao, have you found anything? Do you need help?” Jiang Muyu’s voice came from Liu Ge’s phone.
Tao Zizhan strode over and took the phone.
“Jiang Muyu, do you know something? What exactly is in this room?”
Jiang Muyu smirked. “Officer Tao, if you want me to help, it won’t be for free—at least a carnival’s worth.”
Tao Zizhan grit his teeth. “I can stream some money for you…”
“No need, no need,” Jiang Muyu quickly waved her hand. “How could I take money from a police officer? You already work so hard serving us, it would be embarrassing to ask you for more.”
“Liu Ge just became the lucky one in our livestream, so this time I’m helping him. It’s just a coincidence we found this room. The only cop I know is you, Officer Tao, so I had to call you here for help.”
Tao Zizhan was somewhat skeptical, but the two car accidents from last night and the current uncertain situation made him wonder.
Could it be that this girl really understood things he did not?
“Liu Ge, since you’re a renovation team, do you have a sledgehammer to break through the walls?”
Liu Ge quickly brought his phone close to the screen. “We do! Host, what should we do?”
Jiang Muyu waved her hand.
Clearly, the two people on screen had no idea what she meant.
“Step back to the door first. I can’t see your situation clearly.”
Tao Zizhan immediately ordered his team to exit the room. He stood at the doorway and asked, “What’s the next step?”
