Ou Hao shook his head with a laugh. “I didn’t expect it either. But this kid really has some talent. I heard even Director Tian gave him a nominal title as the art director.”
Ma Sichun nodded thoughtfully. “Then you better get along well with him. His uncle has extensive connections in the industry, which will help your future career.”
“I know,” Ou Hao said, twisting the bottle cap. “That’s why I agreed as soon as he asked. I just don’t know how Director Su will take it…”
Just then, Su Youpeng’s voice came from the monitor, “Ou Hao, come here for a moment.”
Ou Hao’s heart tightened. He quickly got up and jogged over.
Without looking up from the shooting schedule, Su Youpeng said, “I heard you want to take some time off?”
“Yes, Director Su, just a few days…” Ou Hao replied nervously.
“Is it for Jiang Ye’s scenes?” Su Youpeng finally looked up, a half-smile on his lips. “His uncle called me yesterday.”
Ou Hao was momentarily stunned.
“Your scenes aren’t many to begin with. I’ll focus on shooting your parts first over the next few days.” Su Youpeng closed the schedule. “It’s good for young people to help each other. Go ahead.”
“Thank you, Director Su!” Ou Hao breathed a sigh of relief and couldn’t help but grin as he turned away.
That kid Jiang Ye really runs a tight ship.
The sea breeze swept across the set, carrying a salty dampness.
Ou Hao gazed at the rolling waves in the distance, suddenly feeling a flicker of anticipation for Jiang Ye’s online drama.
But soon enough, he would regret it…
…
Mountain City · A well-known math tutoring center
The lethargic afternoon sun lazily poured into the classroom at three o’clock. Tian Xiwei propped the thick “High School Math Must-Do Problems” vertically on the desk as her head slowly drooped down.
Her fluffy bun sat atop her head, her cheek was pressed into a soft mound by her arm, and a faint glisten of drool hung at the corner of her mouth.
“Ti-an! Xi! Wei!” The tutor’s suddenly raised voice startled her awake, jolting her up as the textbook slammed onto the desk.
“Sleeping soundly, huh?” the tutor sneered. “Can you do trigonometric functions now?”
Tian Xiwei scrambled to wipe her mouth. “Teacher, I’m sorry! I was just… thinking with my eyes closed…”
“Fine. Then think through three more sets of problems after class.” The tutor pushed up his glasses. “Make sure to bring them to the makeup class next week.”
Tian Xiwei’s face instantly fell, her wide eyes filled with despair.
As soon as the afternoon tutoring ended, Tian Xiwei dragged Lin Xiaoman out of the classroom.
“Hurry, hurry! Trigonometric functions are driving me crazy!” She stuffed the test papers haphazardly into her bag while pulling Lin Xiaoman towards the elevator. “I need bubble tea to survive right now!”
Out of breath, the two girls burst into the Coco bubble tea shop downstairs. Tian Xiwei leaned on the counter, her eyes sparkling as she stared at the menu. “I want a pearl milk tea, full sugar! Double the pearls!”
The clerk smiled and confirmed, “Full sugar might be very sweet, you know?”

“Full sugar it is!” Tian Xiwei clenched her fist. “After the brutal torture from the teacher today, my blood sugar needs an emergency rescue!”
Lin Xiaoman ordered a half-sugar coconut jelly milk tea. The two found a corner to sit down.
Tian Xiwei took a big sip of her milk tea and was instantly revitalized, bursting with energy as she began to rant about someone.
“It’s all that bastard Jiang Ye’s fault!” she said through gritted teeth. “Why did he sign you up but add me too?”
She poked the pearls in her milk tea angrily. “I’m really suffering because of you, Xiaoman. You’re buying the milk tea later!”
Lin Xiaoman rolled her eyes. “Maybe my brother signed you up on purpose, so I’m the one suffering?”
“No way,” Tian Xiwei’s eyes widened. “He’s that stingy? Impossible! I only tricked him out of a cake! That’s no reason…”
“You just don’t know him,” Lin Xiaoman said quietly. “When we were kids, I stole one of his erasers, and he secretly tore the last page out of my homework book, pretending a dog had chewed it.”
Tian Xiwei gasped, “That spiteful?!”
The two girls shared a sympathetic glance and sighed together.
“No, I can’t let this go!” Tian Xiwei suddenly slammed the table. “I have to find a way to get back at him!”
“But he’s in Yanjing…” Lin Xiaoman bit her straw thoughtfully. “How about we send him some specialty food? Something super spicy, like hotpot base?”
“That’s too easy on him!” Tian Xiwei’s eyes twinkled. “You said he’s preparing a new show, right? Let’s flood his Weibo with bad reviews!”
“Well… he hasn’t even registered for it yet.”
“Damn! He hasn’t added me as a friend yet, otherwise I’d be scolding him on WeChat for an hour every day!”
“It’s just a cake. Stingy jerk, drink cold water!”
“I have a great idea!”
Tian Xiwei leaned in eagerly. “Spill it!”
“My brother…” Lin Xiaoman dragged out the words. “Looks fierce on the surface, but I think he’s a pushover!”
“You know that?”
“Of course. Look at my dad — all tough outside, but gives my mom his entire paycheck, and never dares to go against her.”
Tian Xiwei blinked. “So…?”
“So…” Lin Xiaoman slapped her thigh, “You pretend to be my brother’s girlfriend! When you get his money, we split it fifty-fifty!”
Tian Xiwei nearly spat out her milk tea. “What?!”
She stared wide-eyed, thinking hard, then said seriously, “Fifty-fifty won’t do. Eighty-twenty! I take eighty, you get twenty!”
“Why?!” Lin Xiaoman protested. “It was my idea!”
“Then think of a better one!” Tian Xiwei counted on her fingers. “I have to lose face, go on dates, pretend to like him… Thirty-seventy! That’s the lowest!”
The two girls argued fiercely over the split.

In the end, Lin Xiaoman relented. “Fine, fine. Thirty-seventy it is! But you have to add my brother on WeChat first!”
“Okay!”
Tian Xiwei nodded firmly, pulled out her phone with determination, and tapped “Add Friend.” In the notes section, she quickly typed:
Tian Tianquan: “Brother, I have a secret to tell you!”
Three seconds later.
[The other party rejected your friend request.]
[Note: Not interested.]
Tian Xiwei: “……”
Lin Xiaoman leaned over and burst out laughing. “Nice, Xiwei. Your Long March just ended by falling into the Jialing River?”
“This makes no sense!” Tian Xiwei tore at her bun in frustration. “Doesn’t this suspenseful opening line always work in dramas?!”
“Why don’t you say I have something important to tell him? He cares about me more!”
“Why didn’t you say that earlier!”
Tian Xiwei sent another request:
Tian Tianquan: “Something important about Xiaoman!”
This time the reply was even quicker:
[The other party rejected your friend request.]
[Note: As long as she’s alive.]
The two girls stared at the screen, deep in thought.
“How about…” Tian Xiwei suddenly had a flash of inspiration, “we change tactics!”
She quickly registered a new WeChat account, set the profile picture to an attractive online photo, and changed the name to “Gentle Senior.”
She sent the request again:
“Hello junior, I’m from the Beijing Film Academy acting department~”
Three minutes later…
[The other party accepted your friend request.]
Lin Xiaoman: “……”
Tian Xiwei: “……”
Tian Xiwei slowly raised her head. “Your brother seems easier to fool than we thought?”
