Chapter 16: Underlying Currents Surge

The Demon’s Original Sin had begun to take effect, and Ren Jie could no longer keep his turbulent emotions under control.
He never would have guessed that the Demon Tree could convert spiritual energy into demonic energy. The catch was that it consumed the mist of emotions to do so.
Now, whenever Ren Jie saw a passerby, he felt like robbing them. Whenever he saw a pretty girl, he wanted to lift her skirt.
Just then, a schoolgirl in a short skirt, hugging her schoolbag, glanced at Ren Jie from a distance.
She lowered her head and hurried along. Then, through sheer carelessness, she ran straight into him. Stumbling backward, she fell hard onto the ground.
She hurriedly apologized in a fluster:
(๑◔﹏◔ิ) “I’m… I’m sorry. I’m terribly sorry. I was in such a hurry that I didn’t see you. Did I hurt you? I… I…”
As she spoke, the girl’s face flushed. She cast Ren Jie a timid glance and reached out a hand, indicating that she wanted him to help her up.
Ren Jie did not take it. Instead, the veins on his forehead began to throb.
(ꐦ°᷄д°᷅) “Are you blind? What are those two eyes on your head for, decoration? If you don’t use them, donate them! If saying ‘sorry’ solved everything, why would we need the police?”
“Tell me! What school do you attend? What’s your name? What are your measurements? What color are your shorts?”
Schoolgirl: (゚Д゚;) ???
What kind of deranged questions were those? He was the one who ought to be arrested!
Normally, when a young man his age ran into a beautiful, graceful schoolgirl like her, how could he possibly keep his composure?
Who started by hurling a string of insults at someone?
Embarrassed, the girl withdrew her hand and quickly got to her feet.
“I’m… I’m sorry. I’ll be more careful next time. How… how can I make it up to you?”
She looked at Ren Jie pitifully.
Ren Jie waved her off impatiently:
(︶益︶〃)ツ “All right, all right. It’s not a big deal. Just lift your skirt and let me take a look as compensation, then you can leave.”
The girl froze for a moment. Then an unnatural flush spread across her face, and her eyes filled with excitement. She quickly hid it, however, and spoke with apparent shyness:
“Ah? You… you really want to see? But there are too many people here. Why don’t you come with me somewhere more private?”
Ren Jie swallowed. Were girls these days really this open? She was actually willing to let him look?
No, no. If he really went with her, there was no telling what depraved things he might do in his current state.

“I’m not going. I’m afraid you’ll cut out my kidneys. If you won’t let me look, then forget it. But you still owe me some money, don’t you?”
The girl cursed inwardly. I only bumped into you once, and now I have to pay you? Is this guy a professional scammer?
Just you wait. If there weren’t so many people around…
In a panic, the girl pulled five yuan and a lollipop from her pocket.
“W-Will this do?”
Ren Jie snatched them, stuffed them into his pocket, and turned away. As the girl watched him leave, the veins on her forehead throbbed. Gripping her schoolbag, she disappeared into the crowd.
…
Amid the crowd, a handsome man in a suit carrying a briefcase strolled along casually, his gaze occasionally flicking toward the schoolgirl.
“Captain Night, that kid’s got some nerve, huh? He got bumped once and extorted five yuan from her? Tsk, tsk…”
“If he knew the girl’s true identity, he’d probably be scared stiff…”
At a coffee shop on the corner, a professional woman in a fitted suit, a pencil skirt, black stockings, and high heels held a steaming cup of coffee. Behind her tinted sunglasses, the corner of her eye was likewise fixed on the schoolgirl.
She wore her long, straight black hair down to her waist. Her figure was breathtaking, and her exquisite features drew countless glances simply by virtue of her sitting there.
“Little Ye, stay focused. Don’t lose her. It wasn’t easy to catch her once—don’t let her leave the range of my senses.”
“Everything Chen Hua does serves a purpose. She wouldn’t bump into someone for no reason. That boy may be her target this time.”
“Yun Xiao, Old Wu, follow that boy. Better safe than sorry.”
In the crowd, an energetic ponytailed girl dressed like a student nodded.
“Got it, Sister Night Moon!”
She immediately began following Ren Jie without a sound. A muscular fitness instructor in a tank top and close-cropped hair, who had been handing out flyers on the street, quietly followed alongside Yun Xiao.
At that moment, Ye Huai’s anxious voice came through the communicator:
“Captain Night, we lost her!”
Night Moon ground her teeth. Beneath her tinted sunglasses, her ruby-red eyes lit up.
“Tsk… Find her! She couldn’t have gone far.”
…
The schoolgirl who had bumped into Ren Jie entered a small alley and casually threw her schoolbag into a trash can.
The skin on her body began to melt and deform along with her clothes. In the blink of an eye, she had transformed into a lean, dark-skinned migrant laborer.

Her height and clothing changed as well.
“Heh. The Demon Suppression Bureau’s hounds certainly have sharp noses. But if you think you can catch me, you’re still a hundred years too early. Would the name Chen Hua, the Thousand-Faced Witch, be for nothing?”
A snow-white little marten crawled out from Chen Hua’s arms and squeaked incessantly.
Chen Hua looked extraordinarily excited. This time, she had truly struck gold.
She immediately contacted her superior.
Brother Dao: “How did it go? Are you certain that aura belongs to a newly awakened demon pact-bearer? Have you made contact? Can you bring him in and turn him into one of our comrades—a pawn for our Demon Claw organization?”
Chen Hua giggled. “That little demon brat’s aura could be sniffed out by the treasure-stealing marten with its eyes closed. I did make contact… it’s just…”
The thought made Chen Hua furious.
“Just what?”
Chen Hua said excitedly, “That’s not important. Do you remember the classified mission the Tarot organization issued back then? The one about screening every newly awakened demon pact-bearer and searching for people who caused a reaction in the treasure-stealing marten?”
Brother Dao was speechless. “Wasn’t that mission issued nearly ten years ago? The people from every organization gave up on it long ago. The Poker and Joker factions were even punished by the Tarot for repeatedly submitting false information.”
Chen Hua said urgently, “This is different! This time is different. The treasure-stealing marten really reacted. That boy is definitely the one.”
The treasure-stealing martens had all been distributed by the Tarot to the various organizations after undergoing standardized training. Their purpose was to locate demon pact-bearers and recruit new members.
They did make mistakes from time to time, but a reaction this intense could not possibly be wrong!
Brother Dao’s voice sank. “Are you saying that boy is the one the Tarot has been searching for all this time?”
“Absolutely!”
Brother Dao lost his composure as well.
“Don’t report it yet. If you’re wrong, it could bring ruin down upon us. Take control of that boy first, then we’ll talk.”
“Keep him occupied for now. Don’t act rashly unless you’re certain. The Demon Suppression Bureau has been investigating ruthlessly lately. I’ll find a way to slip away. You be careful too. If he really is the one, we’ll be rich beyond our dreams.”
After hurriedly exchanging a few more instructions, they ended the call. Chen Hua forcibly suppressed her excitement and stroked the treasure-stealing marten’s head.
“You little brat. Don’t even think about escaping my grasp.”
Meanwhile, Ren Jie was nearly going insane from holding himself back. If he did not find a solution soon, he was genuinely going to turn into a pervert.
