Hearing Zhang Xiulian’s words, Jiang Xu could not help glancing at her son.

He was tall and slender, full of energy, and not bad-looking either. He was even a doctor.

With looks like his and a job like that, he was already quite a catch.

More importantly, she was not the only one who thought so. Zhang Xiulian had praised him as well.

Thinking of this, Jiang Xu nodded lightly.

“That’s right. Zhiyan has grown up. He’s no longer the little boy he used to be.”

“He can stand in front of me now and shield me from the wind and rain.”

Zhang Xiulian laughed.

She patted Fang Zhiyan on the shoulder and continued, “But he’s already in his twenties. It’s time for him to find a wife.”

“Zhiyan, are you seeing anyone?”

The smile on Fang Zhiyan’s face instantly froze.

What? Was he still unable to escape this curse?

“Not yet,” Jiang Xu replied with a smile.

“I’ve been thinking about finding someone suitable for him, too.”

“Although our family isn’t particularly well-off, as long as Zhiyan works hard, there’s still plenty to look forward to in the future.”

“Hahaha.” Zhang Xiulian nodded in agreement.

“Actually, I have a niece who’s two or three years younger than Zhiyan.”

“Why don’t I introduce them?”

Jiang Xu’s eyes lit up.

“Sister Xiulian, you’ve said exactly what I was hoping to hear.”

“Haha.” Zhang Xiulian nodded repeatedly as well.

Just like that, the two women began making plans to find Fang Zhiyan a partner.

Fang Zhiyan felt as though he had two heads and four ears.

He had never expected the pressure to marry would come crashing down on him.

He had only been back in this world for a short while, and already he was being urged to get married.

That said, thanks to the experience of his previous life, Fang Zhiyan had his own views on marriage.

It was better to marry sooner rather than later. It saved a lot of trouble.

There was no way he could stay in the hospital room.

Using an excuse about having something to do, Fang Zhiyan quickly escaped and followed Cao Chong on his rounds.

Zhang Xiulian and Jiang Xu exchanged glances and smiled knowingly.

“That rascal clearly has women on his mind. I’ll introduce someone to him another day.”

“Wonderful, Sister Xiulian. Then I’ll leave our Zhiyan in your hands.”

Jiang Xu offered her thanks with a beaming smile.

Meanwhile, Fang Zhiyan followed Cao Chong through the wards.

He was familiar with most of the patients’ conditions.

Cao Chong enjoyed questioning his students while teaching them.

Usually, he would randomly choose one student to answer.

Recently, however, after asking the other students each question, he would always call on Fang Zhiyan as well.

Fang Zhiyan’s answers were flawless.

Seasoned and incisive, they hit the nail on the head.

In some areas, even Cao Chong found himself astonished.

And after Fang Zhiyan had successfully completed the surgery to remove a tumor near the brainstem a few days earlier, Cao Chong was even more deeply shaken.

At times, Cao Chong felt that he was no longer qualified to teach Fang Zhiyan.

Since he could do nothing else, he directed all that amazement—and his exacting standards—toward Zhu Zixiao and Yin Jing.

As a result, the two of them felt tremendous pressure.

Whenever they saw Fang Zhiyan, they wore expressions of hesitation.

“Zhiyan, could you please stop shining so brightly? It’s blinding!” Yin Jing complained.

Zhu Zixiao nodded in agreement.

The three of them sat in the cafeteria, eating lunch and grumbling.

“These past two days, Professor Cao has been acting like a madman, firing questions at us nonstop.”

“We’re nowhere near as freakish as you are. You really don’t treat us like human beings.”

The corner of Fang Zhiyan’s mouth twitched, and he gave them an apologetic smile.

“I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen.”

“Please don’t take it personally.”

Yin Jing drew a deep breath and glared at Fang Zhiyan.

That expression of calm humility on his face made it seem as though he was pretending, even if no one knew better!

“Forget it.”

Yin Jing turned away and vented her anger on her food.

As they chatted, the sound of approaching footsteps came from the distance.

“Doctor Fang, you’re here!”

“Would you mind if I joined you for lunch?”

Shen Qingyue, a nurse from the emergency department, came over.

She first greeted Zhu Zixiao and Yin Jing, then turned to Fang Zhiyan.

“Of course not, Nurse Shen. Have a seat.”

Fang Zhiyan nodded politely.

His modest and courteous manner caused little hearts to practically bloom in Shen Qingyue’s eyes.

“Doctor Fang, you’re truly amazing.”

“These past few days, the nurses in the other departments have all been talking about you. They say you’re the youngest doctor in the history of our hospital—or even of the entire Jiang’an City—to have served as lead surgeon in an operation to remove a tumor near the brainstem.”

Shen Qingyue spoke with obvious admiration.

She was about the same age as Fang Zhiyan. After graduating from nursing school, she had joined the hospital as a nurse.

At first, she had merely thought Fang Zhiyan was impressive. Who could have imagined that he would be this extraordinary?

“Nurse Shen, you’re flattering me,” Fang Zhiyan said with a smile. “I was just lucky, with a tiny bit of ability on top of that.”

The people beside him rolled their eyes at his words.

But anyone with eyes could see that Shen Qingyue was clearly very fond of Fang Zhiyan.

After all, an outstanding man never lacked admirers, wherever he went.

After lunch, Fang Zhiyan returned to the consulting room with Zhu Zixiao and the others and continued his afternoon shift.

After visiting Zhang Xiulian, Jiang Xu went home.

When Fang Zhiyan finished work, he also went to check on Lu Hongchang.

He examined Lu Hongchang’s condition.

Lu Hongchang’s recovery was nearly perfect.

He was even able to get out of bed!

Such a rapid recovery once again demonstrated the skill involved in Fang Zhiyan’s surgery.

After another day, Lu Hongchang would have safely passed the seventy-two-hour danger period. At that point, he could be considered completely out of danger.

Only after giving him a careful set of instructions did Fang Zhiyan change his clothes and leave the hospital.

He had finished work rather late that day.

Fang Zhiyan stood quietly at the bus stop, waiting for the bus.

A moment later, the bus arrived, but Fang Zhiyan did not get on.

Someone was standing in front of it, blocking his way.

“Fang Zhiyan, I’d like to buy you dinner.”

“There’s something I want to talk to you about.”

The person stopping him was Xu Qiushuang.

At that moment, Xu Qiushuang was breathing heavily, as though she had run all the way there. Fang Zhiyan was slightly surprised.

“You want to buy me dinner?”

Fang Zhiyan touched his pocket. He had been planning to say that it was his turn to treat Xu Qiushuang.

Unfortunately, he had no money on him.

Sure enough, even a hero could be brought low by a single coin.

Fang Zhiyan rubbed his nose and said apologetically, “Teacher Xu, why don’t you come to my place instead? I’ll cook for you.”

Xu Qiushuang shook her head and grabbed Fang Zhiyan’s hand.

“Come on. I’m buying you dinner. There’s something I want to tell you today.”

Seeing how decisive she was, Fang Zhiyan had no choice but to hurry after her.

The two of them arrived at a small restaurant, one walking ahead of the other.

Fang Zhiyan ordered fried rice, while Xu Qiushuang ordered a bowl of noodles.

As the steam rose from the food, Fang Zhiyan carefully calculated the cost.

His salary was still three days away.

He seemed to be able to afford this meal after all.

Just as Fang Zhiyan was thinking about it, Xu Qiushuang took the initiative to speak.

“Fang Zhiyan, what do you think of me?”

“Hmm?”

The unexpected question made him raise his head.

Was this it? Were they about to discuss romance?

So soon?

He had not prepared himself for this.

Teacher Xu was actually such a bold woman?

But when he thought about it carefully, Xu Qiushuang really was quite an excellent woman.

She was beautiful, had a good job, and possessed a wonderful personality.

After pondering for a long while, Fang Zhiyan slowly nodded.

“I think Teacher Xu is a very strong, independent woman with a personality all her own.”
