Chapter 55: Am I Good at This?
Fang Ziyan worked quickly yet meticulously.
The cosmetic suturing technique he employed was a bit more troublesome in terms of method, but the results were exceptionally good. After all, the patient before him was a young girl; if her arm were left with a prominent scar, it would ultimately be unsightly.
While they were fiercely caught up in these so-called gang conflicts right now, when they reached a certain age in the future, they would inevitably come to regret it. Therefore, Fang Ziyan was very considerate.
A moment later, he finished the final stitch, slowly stood up, and said, "Alright, it's done."
"Remember, keep the wound away from water for a week, and come back in a week to get the stitches removed."
Instructing her as he spoke, Fang Ziyan stood up, preparing to move toward the next patient.
"Wait!"
Seeing that Fang Ziyan was about to leave, the girl finally could not hold back any longer. She quickly stood up, but the movement tugged at her wound, causing her to wince slightly.
"What is it?" Fang Ziyan looked at her quizzically.
"Nothing, I just wanted to ask... will this wound leave a scar?"
The girl mumbled for a long time before finally asking with a trace of embarrassment.
Fang Ziyan chuckled quietly.
She was just a young girl after all, still concerned with her appearance; otherwise, why would she have asked such a question? She had merely been putting on a brave face earlier.
He shook his head. Seeing that the girl seemed anxious, he offered an explanation, "Rest assured, a scar will definitely be left."
"That is an unavoidable outcome."
"However, I used a cosmetic suturing technique, so even if there is a scar, it will be very small and subtle."
"As long as you don't deliberately show it to others, it generally won't be very noticeable."
Hearing this, the girl finally heaved a sigh of relief. She sat back down, but before she had even settled properly, she looked up at Fang Ziyan again.
"What's your name? Can I come to you to get my stitches removed next time?"
"Of course. My name is Fang Ziyan."
Young Doctor Fang felt quite pleased, nodded, and moved on to the next patient's spot.
From behind him came the girl's voice.
"Thank you. I... my name is Miao Susu."
Fang Ziyan did not reply, his gaze falling upon a burly man covered in tattoos.
This tattooed man seemed to be a fierce character, stained with quite a bit of blood. However, that blood did not belong to him; it appeared to be that of his enemies.
He did not have many wounds on his body, save for a single open wound in a rather peculiar location—on his upper arm.
The reason the location was peculiar was because a coiled dragon was tattooed across his arm. If this open wound were poorly stitched, it would very likely ruin the overall image of the coiled dragon.
"Tsk!"
Fang Ziyan let out a soft exclamation, sounding somewhat emotional.
The tattooed man also raised his head.
"What are you clicking your tongue for? Can you stitch it or not?"
"Of course I can." Fang Ziyan smiled. "It's just that your tattoo is quite a pity; I'm afraid it's going to be ruined."
Hearing this, the tattooed man was taken aback.
He had been to hospitals many times before. Usually, when doctors saw someone like him, they would either be terrified, trembling and daring not say a word, or their eyes would reveal disdain, utterly too proud to interact with someone like him.
Yet this particular doctor before him showed neither fear nor contempt. Instead, he seemed genuinely concerned about his tattoo.
The tattooed man pursed his lips, then frowned and said, "Just stitch it up however you can."
"If the pattern gets distorted, I'll go get it removed and re-inked later."
"That won't be necessary." Fang Ziyan interrupted him.
"As long as it's handled properly and stitched carefully, it won't affect the tattoo too much."
With that, he squatted down and carefully inspected the wound.
Noticing Fang Ziyan's actions, the tattooed man's expression softened slightly.
"Don't move around. Your wound is quite troublesome, so I need to take my time," Fang Ziyan said after taking a look, offering an explanation.
"It's fine, go ahead."
The tattooed man nodded. Another man nearby walked over as if wanting to say something, but the tattooed man raised a hand to block him, stopping his words.
Fang Ziyan paid it no mind.
The tattooed man's wound was much deeper than that of the young girl earlier, and there were many gravel fragments and dust trapped inside. Those muscle tissues were completely exposed to the air, looking extremely terrifying.
Fortunately, however, vital structures like blood vessels and tendons had not been damaged.
Fang Ziyan pursed his lips and retrieved a bottle of iodine from the side.
First, he applied the iodine for disinfection, then rinsed the area with saline to remove debris, blood clots, and other foreign matter.
Once this messy clutter was cleared away, he prepared to perform the suturing.
Suturing of this kind required both skill and precise positioning. Because of the existing tattoo on the skin, the difficulty of the skin closure was raised by another level.
But it was fine; Fang Ziyan was not afraid of difficulties. What he pursued was exquisite craftsmanship.
Seeing that the tattooed man had been frowning from start to finish without uttering a single sound, Fang Ziyan gave him a thumbs-up.
Then, he used forceps to lift the skin, took out the needle, and pierced it perpendicularly into the skin's surface.
Next, he guided the needle through the dermis, emerging from the middle of the wound, released the needle holder, and grasped the needle with the forceps.
After that, using the force of the forceps, he drove the needle through the skin, continuously pulling the suture thread as he moved to draw the wound edges together.
Having finished this, Fang Ziyan looked up at the tattooed man before him and chuckled lightly.
"Well, you've got grit. You didn't make a single sound."
The tattooed man glanced indifferently at Fang Ziyan, though the corners of his mouth involuntarily curled into a slight arc.
"I stated beforehand that I didn't want any anesthetic."
"This bit of pain is nothing to us."
Fang Ziyan smiled and proceeded with the knot-tying process.
First, he looped the suture thread around the needle holder, then grabbed the end of the thread with the needle driver. Finally, he pulled the knot to the side to prevent it from interfering with the wound.
When all of this was completed, Fang Ziyan breathed a sigh of relief and slowly stood up.
"How is it? Are you satisfied with my stitching?"
Hearing this, the tattooed man turned his head to stare at his wound, a flash of astonishment crossing his eyes.
The wound edges were matched together flawlessly. Even the pattern on that side of his arm aligned with absolute precision. If it healed properly, aside from the initial scar, the tattoo would likely remain completely unaffected.
He looked at Fang Ziyan with a tinge of shock.
Since when did the hospital of traditional medicine have a doctor with such exceptional suturing skills?
Such a knife wound, and he had stitched it so beautifully?
"What is your name?" the tattooed man could not help asking.
Seeing that Fang Ziyan did not speak, he added, "My name is Gu Ta, and I am the third leader of the Azure Dragon Gang."
Fang Ziyan glanced at him, surprised to find he was actually a gang boss.
"My name is Fang Ziyan."
"Huh?"
As the words fell, the tattooed man froze, looking somewhat puzzled.
"Why does that name sound so familiar?"
"Third Brother, I know! A few days ago, the newspaper said a doctor saved a young girl on the roadside—that's him!"
The subordinate nearby hurriedly explained.
