Chapter 65: Street Brawl
"Busy? What's going on? It seems like you know something."
Zhu Zixiao looked at Fang Ziyan with some confusion.
Fang Ziyan didn't say a word. He simply returned to his office and put on his white lab coat.
Zhu Zixiao refused to let the matter drop.
Right now, he was essentially the number one spy planted by Luo Yun around Fang Ziyan.
He wanted to find out about everything happening to Fang Ziyan so he could report back to Luo Yun.
Therefore, he followed him and continued, "By the way, Lao Fang, when you went back after work today, were you with Teacher Xu?"
Fang Ziyan's hand paused, and he slowly turned his head to cast a glance at Zhu Zixiao.
That gaze was somewhat cold and slightly angry.
A wave of joy surged in Zhu Zixiao's heart. Clearly, things hadn't turned out well between the two of them. He needed to hurry up and report this news to Miss Luo.
Yet in the next second, Fang Ziyan slowly spoke up, "Things are over between Teacher Xu and me."
"She accepted Gu Tao's one-hundred-thousand betrothal gift and has decided to be with Gu Tao."
As those words fell, Zhu Zixiao was suddenly dumbfounded.
Wait, what?
Ah?
Is this for real?
What kind of massive piece of gossip had he just stumbled upon?
Zhu Zixiao widened his eyes, his face full of sheer disbelief.
"You—are you serious?"
"She's with Gu Tao?"
"Damn it all, Gu Tao is truly a piece of trash!"
Zhu Zixiao slapped his thigh, wearing an expression that was half-laughing, half-grimacing.
Fang Ziyan shook his head slightly, a tinge of emotional detachment in his heart.
To him, Xu Qiushuang was merely a passerby and of no real consequence; she could only evoke a fleeting sigh from him now.
Once tomorrow passed, she would have nothing more to do with him.
Zhu Zixiao feigned a pat on Fang Ziyan's shoulder and offered a few words of comfort.
Then, he sprinted out of the office, pulled out his phone, and immediately sent a text message to Luo Yun.
At that moment, Luo Yun was lying on her bed in the dormitory, playing with her phone.
Suddenly receiving this message, she sat straight up from the bed with a start.
Her roommate was startled by the sudden movement.
"Xiaoyun, what's wrong with you? Why are you so jumpy all of a sudden?"
Luo Yun blinked and glanced down at her phone once more.
Upon receiving the confirmation from Zhu Zixiao, she slid right off the bed in one swift motion.
"Xiao Zhang, I need to go home."
"Help me ask for leave later and just say there's an emergency at home."
"What?" The roommate looked up in shock.
"Are you out of your mind? Why are you going home in the middle of the night?"
Luo Yun chuckled softly, quickly packed a small backpack, put it on, and pumped her fist fiercely.
"In pursuit of love!"
With that, she kicked the dormitory door wide open and bolted out.
Luo Yun was attending university in Donghai Province, more than two hundred kilometers away from Jiangan City.
Driving there would take about two hours.
Therefore, once she stepped outside, she hailed a cab without the slightest hesitation.
"Driver, take me to the Jiangan City People's Hospital!"
"Huh?"
The taxi driver looked completely bewildered, finding it quite unbelievable.
"That far?"
"Step on it, are you taking the fare or not? It's not like I'm not paying!"
"Oh, right, fine, let's go."
The taxi driver nodded hastily, switched his sign to off-duty, and immediately pulled out his phone to send a quick message to his wife.
"Honey, I'm not coming home tonight. Picked up a big fare to Jiangan City!"
With that settled, the driver rolled up his sleeves.
"Let's go! Departure!"
Luo Yun sped through the night, hurtling straight toward Jiangan City for the sake of love.
Meanwhile, Fang Ziyan was making his rounds through the hospital wards.
A short while later, word came from the emergency center.
A report had come in from Dongtan Street about a massive brawl involving dozens of people slashing at each other with blades, and all the city's hospitals were instructed to have their ambulances on standby.
Hearing this, Zhu Zixiao was startled and couldn't help but look at Fang Ziyan.
"Did you know beforehand that something like this would happen today?"
Fang Ziyan nodded.
"One of the opposing factions in the fight is that third uncle of Gu Tao's—the tattooed guy who got his stitches done at our hospital last time."
Zhu Zixiao drew a sharp breath.
"Good grief, if we head over there today, aren't we going to see rivers of blood?"
He was starting to panic.
Normally, there were dedicated emergency doctors assigned to ambulance dispatches.
Fang Ziyan, Zhu Zixiao, and the others were only supposed to be on duty within the hospital.
Now that even they were being mobilized, it was enough to show just how critical the situation on Dongtan Street truly was.
Without wasting any words, they quickly packed their equipment and rushed into the ambulance.
Moments later, a chorus of sirens wailed, heading straight for Dongtan Street.
Sitting in the vehicle, Fang Ziyan felt a lingering sense of curiosity.
To be honest, the gang fight between the Azure Dragon Gang and the Broadsword Society a few days ago had already caused widespread public anxiety.
If another brawl broke out today, it would truly defy reason.
Could it be that the police weren't doing anything at all?
Yet if the police were intervening today, would this fight even be able to take place?
Fang Ziyan didn't know for sure, but he also understood that he was simply a doctor whose only duty was to perform his job well.
Amidst his thoughts, the ambulance began to slow down. In the distance, a massive crowd appeared, divided into two distinct factions confronting each other in a standoff.
Fang Ziyan sniffed the air.
There was only an atmosphere of stern hostility; no scent of blood hung in the air.
He frowned and swept his gaze across the scene with a hint of skepticism.
It seemed the fight hadn't actually started yet.
They were merely deadlocked, and everyone had been summoned here in advance.
Well, it made sense; according to older veteran doctors, there were indeed times when ambulances were called ahead of time before a major clash.
Presumably, this precaution was due to the overwhelming number of injuries sustained a few days prior.
Since no fighting had broken out, the situation didn't have much to do with Fang Ziyan and his team.
He stood by the ambulance, gazing into the distance.
The reason the fight hadn't broken out yet was clearly because a massive contingent of police officers had already arrived on the scene.
Those officers, fully armed with live ammunition, stood right in the middle of the two opposing groups.
Flashing red and blue warning lights illuminated the area, and several officers were holding riot shields.
Fang Ziyan turned his gaze toward the roadside.
A tall watchtower stood by the street, and midway up its structure stood two middle-aged men.
One was dressed in a short-sleeved police uniform, while the other wore a leather jacket.
Both stood there with their hands behind their backs, looking down upon the scene below like supreme rulers high above the clouds.
Fang Ziyan pondered for a moment and quickly deduced their approximate identities.
One was likely the Director of the Jiangan City Public Security Bureau, and the other was undoubtedly another heavyweight figure of immense authority.
He hadn't expected today's confrontation between the Azure Dragon Gang and the Broadsword Society to draw such high-ranking officials to the scene.
Under these circumstances, could this fight possibly still happen?
Doubt began to creep into Fang Ziyan's mind.
However, none of this concerned him; he could only wait inside the nearby ambulance.
Zhu Zixiao was equally stunned by the scene before him, scanning the surroundings repeatedly with undisguised excitement in his eyes.
The entire standoff lasted for a full two hours.
As it approached one or two o'clock in the morning, there finally seemed to be signs of a retreat.
The ambulances from the various hospitals also received word that they could presumably withdraw.
Such news left Zhu Zixiao feeling rather disappointed.
"No fight broke out after all. Well, that's fine—not having people killed is a good thing."
He sighed, but a split second later, a crucial matter flashed back into his mind.
Earlier, hadn't Miss Luo said she was on her way to Jiangan City?
