Chapter 31: Why Go to Such Lengths? Unexpected News

“Jiang Chen, hurry, we have to go!”
After hearing Ma Jiantao, Su Jinxi anxiously called out to Jiang Chen.
This was Xiongwu Hall’s territory, and its hall master might very well be inside the bar. Once reinforcements arrived, the consequences would be disastrous!
“Uncle, I was beaten in Liang Wenbin’s private room, and two of my brothers were crippled. Bring people over and help me get revenge! I want him dead!”
Ma Jiantao was speaking to his uncle, Xiong Wuqiang, on the phone. After receiving a reply, he said excitedly, “You’re already at my private room? Good! Then hurry over, before they get away!”
Su Jinxi’s delicate face changed drastically. The hall master of Xiongwu Hall really was inside the bar. If they did not leave now, it would be too late!
“Jiang Chen, there’s no time! Hurry!”
Su Jinxi grabbed Jiang Chen’s hand and tried to pull him away, but Jiang Chen remained firmly seated on the sofa. She could not move him at all.
“Trying to run? I advise you to save your strength! My uncle will be here any moment. You’d better start thinking about what position you’ll use to serve me—and what position you’ll use when you die!”
Ma Jiantao laughed arrogantly. No one had ever dared strike him before. Even if Jiang Chen was a martial arts expert, he would meet a gruesome end before his uncle.
“Jinxi, this penniless loser will be nothing but a cold corpse by tonight. Staying with him will only bring you harm! If I were you, I’d serve Brother Tao properly. Otherwise, your days ahead will be very difficult!”
Liang Wenbin advised Su Jinxi. Since he could not have her, he might as well use her to please Ma Jiantao and secure some benefit for himself.
“Miss Su, Brother Bin is right. This penniless loser is doomed either way. If you anger Brother Tao, you won’t be able to bear the consequences!”
“Exactly, Jinxi. This penniless loser is about to die. Brother Tao’s uncle is the hall master of Xiongwu Hall—even the heads of the Five Great Families have to show him respect. Being able to serve Brother Tao is your good fortune!”
Fang Zhe, Shi Yuan, and the others were all shameless opportunists. They turned whichever way the wind blew, fawning over Ma Jiantao one after another.
“You make me sick!”
Su Jinxi looked at them with disgust.
“Beautiful, everything they said is true. I hope you won’t be so ungrateful!”
Ma Jiantao smiled as he threatened and coaxed her. “Will you be buried alongside this penniless loser, or become my woman and enjoy wealth and glory? You’d better think carefully!”
Su Jinxi was so furious that her chest heaved, which only made Ma Jiantao feast his eyes.
“If your uncle knew that the person you want to kill is me, do you think he would beat you to death?”
Jiang Chen asked calmly, waiting for Xiong Wuqiang to arrive and deal with the matter himself.
“Who the hell do you think you are? A martial arts grandmaster? How dare you joke with me like that!”
Ma Jiantao narrowed his eyes and cursed furiously. His uncle doted on him and had never struck him once in all his life.
“I’m not a martial arts grandmaster. I’ve simply killed one before.”
Jiang Chen said it lightly, as though it were nothing worth mentioning.
“You killed a martial arts grandmaster? Hahaha… You’re messing with me!”
Ma Jiantao threw his head back and laughed. “I forgot to tell you—my uncle is a martial arts grandmaster. If you’ve got the ability, go ahead and kill him for me!”

“I’ve already killed your uncle once. If you truly want him dead, wait until he comes in and have him tell you himself.”
Jiang Chen smiled as well, his words carrying a profound implication.
Ma Jiantao was about to curse Jiang Chen for carrying on with his ridiculous act when a sudden commotion erupted outside the private room.
“Greetings, Hall Master Xiong!”
Liang Wenbin, Fang Zhe, and the others all bowed respectfully.
Xiong Wuqiang entered the private room with several martial arts grandmasters from Xiongwu Hall. His mere presence was intimidating enough to make everyone’s heart tremble.
“Uncle!”
Ma Jiantao hurried forward to greet him, his tone filled with respect.
Xiong Wuqiang’s gaze swept over Ma Jiantao, checking whether he was injured. His voice was icy as he asked, “Who was bold enough to beat my nephew on Xiongwu Hall’s territory? Is he tired of living?”
“Uncle, it was that penniless loser showing off!”
Ma Jiantao turned around and pointed at Jiang Chen, who was seated on the sofa. “He claims to have killed a martial arts grandmaster, and even arrogantly said he had killed you once. Have your men break all four of his limbs!”
Following the direction of Ma Jiantao’s finger, Xiong Wuqiang looked over—and nearly felt his soul leave his body. His entire body began trembling uncontrollably.
Ma Jiantao was grinning triumphantly and failed to notice his uncle’s reaction. Pointing at Jiang Chen’s nose, he provoked him, “You penniless loser, weren’t you acting tough? Go on, act tough again!”
“Smack!”
Xiong Wuqiang slapped Ma Jiantao across the face with tremendous force, sending him flying and spitting blood.
“You worthless bastard! Have you played with women until you lost your mind? How dare you offend Young Master Jiang? I’ll beat you to death!”
While cursing furiously, Xiong Wuqiang stepped forward and kicked Ma Jiantao several more times, making him spit blood and scream in agony.
Liang Wenbin, Fang Zhe, and the others were all terrified by what they saw.
Wasn’t Xiong Wuqiang Ma Jiantao’s uncle?
Why was he beating his own nephew so brutally?
Could he have mistaken the man for someone else?
Liang Wenbin blurted out, “Hall Master Xiong, have you mistaken him for someone else? He’s just a penniless loser, not some Young Master Jiang!”
“That’s right, Hall Master Xiong!”
Fang Zhe and the others instinctively echoed him.
“You bunch of ants dare question Young Master Jiang?”
Xiong Wuqiang glanced at Liang Wenbin and the others before shouting an order. “Men, beat them mercilessly! Keep going until they understand who they are!”
Several martial arts grandmasters from Xiongwu Hall charged forward and knocked Liang Wenbin, Fang Zhe, and the others to the floor. Their bones were broken as they wailed and cried out for their parents.
“You worthless bastard, crawl over there and kneel before Young Master Jiang to beg forgiveness! If Young Master Jiang wants you dead, even I won’t be able to save you!”

Xiong Wuqiang kicked Ma Jiantao and reminded him.
Even if lust had clouded Ma Jiantao’s mind, the beating had brought him completely back to his senses. Knowing his uncle well, he understood that Jiang Chen had to be someone even Xiongwu Hall could not afford to provoke. Otherwise, his uncle would never have been so furious.
“Young… Young Master Jiang, I was blind and foolish. I shouldn’t have offended you or your woman. I’m willing to accept any punishment. I only beg you to spare my life…”
Ma Jiantao crawled before Jiang Chen and repeatedly knocked his head against the floor as he pleaded for mercy.
“Miss Su, have you calmed down?”
Jiang Chen turned to ask Su Jinxi.
“Huh?”
Su Jinxi had not expected Jiang Chen to care about her feelings. Remembering Ma Jiantao’s claim that she was Jiang Chen’s woman, she blushed and nodded.
“Yes.”
“Xiaoqiang, for Miss Su’s sake—and for yours—let this matter end here.”
Jiang Chen looked at Xiong Wuqiang and spoke indifferently. “If there’s a next time, have your sister or your younger sister give birth to another nephew.”
“Yes. Thank you, Young Master Jiang, for sparing this worthless bastard!”
Xiong Wuqiang bowed deeply in gratitude.
Ma Jiantao collapsed limply on the floor, filled with terror toward Jiang Chen. Just what kind of great person was he? Even his uncle had become a groveling Xiaoqiang before him!
“Young Master Jiang… please spare me… I’m willing to give you the century-old king ginseng…”
With blood filling his mouth, Liang Wenbin wept as he begged for help. He felt as though he were about to be beaten to death.
“What a needless disaster. You turned your own birthday into this. I only wanted to buy your century-old king ginseng.”
Jiang Chen sighed helplessly.
Liang Wenbin cried until tears and snot streamed down his face, regretting everything bitterly. He could have used the opportunity to curry favor with a figure even more formidable than the hall master of Xiongwu Hall, yet he had repeatedly provoked him and sought his own destruction.
Afterward, Xiong Wuqiang sent men to escort Liang Wenbin home to retrieve the century-old king ginseng. He then cleared the private room, leaving only Jiang Chen and Su Jinxi behind.
“Jiang Chen, thank you!”
Su Jinxi expressed her gratitude. If Jiang Chen had not appeared that night, she could not even imagine how tragic her fate might have been.
“It was nothing. You don’t have to thank me.”
Jiang Chen waved his hand.
“I don’t even know how I should thank you…”
As she spoke, Su Jinxi seemed to remember something. “I just thought of something. It may be connected to the destruction of your family…”
Jiang Chen’s expression changed drastically. He turned sharply toward Su Jinxi.
