Chapter 44: The Colonel Father, Who Kills Whom
At the entrance of the Linzhou Military Region General Hospital.
Jiang Qing stepped out of a taxi, limping toward the hospital while enduring sharp pain. On her way to buy groceries, she had been struck by a hit-and-run driver. Forced to take a taxi to the nearest hospital, she felt as though her right leg had been fractured.
"Vroom... screech!"
A blue Lamborghini Aventador roared over, skidding to a halt with its tires burning against the pavement, nearly striking Jiang Qing.
"Thud... hiss..."
Startled, Jiang Qing stumbled backward and fell to the ground. As she landed on her injured right leg, she gasped in agony. When she looked up and recognized the blue Lamborghini, her face twisted with rage—this was the very car that had hit her and fled the scene.
A woman dressed in a tight skirt with black stockings stepped out of the driver's seat, her high heels clicking against the ground. The person driving earlier had not been this woman, but rather a man in a suit in the passenger seat whose left arm was broken. Due to an accident on the road, they had switched drivers so the woman could bring him to the hospital for treatment.
"Where did this pathetic cripple come from? Get out of my way!" the woman in stockings barked, looking at Jiang Qing with utter disdain as she struggled to stand up.
"You hit me earlier, and now you almost ran me over again! Is this how you treat people?" Jiang Qing demanded, glaring at her with indignation.
"Damn it! So it was you, you wretch!" The man in the suit hobbled over, clutching his broken arm. Recognizing her, he cursed, "I didn't kill you on the road, and now you’re here trying to scam us? Do you want me to run you over and finish the job right now?"
He had been the one driving when Jiang Qing was struck. He had broken his own arm in a separate accident while speeding later on, and he blamed his bad luck on hitting her.
"Do you... do you have no respect for the law?" Jiang Qing asked, her hands trembling with rage.
"The law? Hah! I am the law!" the man laughed dismissively.
"Listen here, you cripple. I’m Feng Yuwei, the second young lady of the Feng family! I could crush you with money alone," the woman sneered arrogantly. "My boyfriend is Pan Yonghui, the young master of the Pan family! His father is a colonel in the Linzhou Military Region. One word from him, and he could wipe out your entire family!"
Jiang Qing’s face turned pale. The identities of these two were more shocking than the last. She remembered that Du Yalan, the ex-girlfriend of her brother Jiang Chen, had started dating Feng Junwei, the young master of the Feng family, after distancing herself from the Jiangs. She hadn't realized this woman was Feng Junwei’s sister. As for Pan Yonghui, while she didn't know him, a father who was a colonel in the military was clearly someone she could not afford to offend. To people like them, they truly might be the law.
"Scared now? It’s too late!" Pan Yonghui sneered. "My left arm is broken because of you! If you don't want to die, break your own left arm and kneel down, and keep kowtowing until I'm satisfied!"
Terrified, Jiang Qing began to limp backward, desperate to escape.
"Trying to run? I'll destroy you right now!" Pan Yonghui cursed, rushing forward and kicking Jiang Qing in the stomach.
"Bang... Argh!"
Jiang Qing collapsed, her injured leg striking the ground, and she screamed in pain.
"Brother Hui, this cripple is delaying our treatment. Why don't we just crush her legs so she stays a cripple for the rest of her life?" Feng Yuwei suggested with a cruel smile, tapping her high heel on the ground as if preparing to do it herself.
"A cripple for life? That’s a great idea. Let’s do it!" Pan Yonghui grinned viciously. He targeted her injured right leg and raised his foot to stomp down.
"No..." Jiang Qing shrieked.
*Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh... thud!*
Just as Pan Yonghui’s foot was about to land, several silver needles flew through the air, piercing his legs. He collapsed backward onto the pavement.
Jiang Chen pulled up in his car, drifted to a stop, and sprinted toward his sister.
"Sister, I'm sorry! I'm late!" Jiang Chen knelt beside her, his eyes blazing with fury and heartbreak as he saw her leg.
"Xiao Chen!" Jiang Qing hugged him and burst into tears.
"Ah... my legs... I can't move them..." Pan Yonghui lay on the ground, dizzy and howling as he realized his legs were paralyzed.
"Brother Hui!" Feng Yuwei cried out, rushing to help him, but she could only lift his upper body.
"It’s him! That dog must have done this!" Pan Yonghui roared, pointing at Jiang Chen as he tended to his sister.
"You have some nerve, daring to ambush Brother Hui!" Feng Yuwei shrieked, threatening Jiang Chen, "If you don't fix his legs immediately, wait until his father comes to break yours!"
Jiang Chen ignored her, focusing entirely on his sister’s leg. Fortunately, it was just a dislocation. He used gentle, qi-infused movements to set the bone before inserting silver needles to speed the healing.
"Xiao Chen, she is Feng Yuwei, the sister of Feng Junwei. The man on the ground is her boyfriend, Pan Yonghui. His father is a colonel in the Linzhou Military Region. Let's go!" Jiang Qing whispered, terrified of the consequences.
"Sister, don't worry. Whether his father is a colonel or a general, if they dare to hurt you, I will make them pay tenfold," Jiang Chen reassured her, continuing to soothe the swelling.
"You cur! How dare you ignore my father?" Pan Yonghui glared at him. "I will make sure you two miserable wretches have no place to be buried!"
"Since you’re so determined to die, I’ll kick your head in right now!" Feng Yuwei screamed, rushing toward Jiang Chen and raising her pointed heel to strike his skull.
*Crack... thud!*
Jiang Chen reached out, grabbed her ankle, and crushed it instantly. With a compound fracture, she collapsed, her head hitting the ground as blood poured out.
"Ah! My foot... it hurts!" Feng Yuwei shrieked, trembling in agony.
"You bastard! How dare you hurt my woman? I’m going to tear you to pieces!" Pan Yonghui threatened, his face twisted in rage.
"Call your colonel father here then. If you can't kill me, I will kill you," Jiang Chen said, his voice cold as ice.
"Fine! You asked for this! I’ll make sure you die knowing exactly why!" Pan Yonghui pulled out his phone to call his father, Pan Jinsheng.
At that moment, Ye Qingchan pulled up to the hospital entrance, her eyes locking onto Jiang Chen, who was still kneeling beside his sister.
