Chapter 46 Slept on the Same Brick Bed
Lin Yang had a hazy dream in which he was holding a Type 56 semi-automatic rifle, striding majestically through the mountain forests.
Suddenly, a gigantic black bear appeared before him. The beast glared at him with eyes as large as bronze bells, its bloody mouth wide open, and lunged at him with a ferocious aura.
Without a trace of fear, Lin Yang raised his gun and fired, successfully bagging the bear.
Yet just as he was rejoicing and carrying the bear back home on his shoulders, his mother took one look, said not a word, and grabbed the nearest tool to give him a severe beating. The thrashing left him aching all over, as if every single inch of his skin was crying out in misery.
It was precisely the pain from this dream that had jolted him awake.
Opening his eyes, he saw his mother's feather duster coming down on him. Jolting upright in pain, he cried out in dismay, "Ma, what are you doing?"
"What am I doing?"
Zhao Guixiang akimbo with one hand and holding the feather duster in the other, pointed at Lin Yang and scolded, "You don't learn any good, only bad. You've actually learned how to drink alcohol, and you just came back and crashed straight to sleep—you've been sleeping for ten solid hours!"
Lin Yang hurriedly wrapped himself in the quilt, shrank into the corner, and flashed a flattering smile. "Ma, don't be angry. I promise I'll never drink outside again."
"Hmph!"
Seeing that her son was none the worse for wear, Zhao Guixiang's worries melted away. With a cold snort, she turned and walked out of the room.
Lin Yang let out a breath of relief. He knew his mother was only worried about him, but that feather duster really hurt when it landed on you!
By now, the day was fully bright, and Zhao Guixiang's laughter drifted in from outside.
"Xiaowan, wait just a moment longer. That rascal is getting up right now. He's fine, don't you worry!"
Lin Yang finally understood why his mother had used the feather duster to wake him up. It turned out Xiaowan had come over, and his mother was currently pulling out all the stops to bring about a match between him and Xiaowan.
"Wan'er, come on in!"
Li Xiaowan had heard that Lin Yang got drunk yesterday and came over to see how he was doing.
Seeing that Lin Yang was completely fine, she too breathed a sigh of relief.
Yet Lin Yang broke into a mischievous grin and pulled Li Xiaowan straight into his embrace.
Subconsciously, he reached out and gently stroked Li Xiaowan's delicate, petal-like face, a tender smile curving unbidden at the corners of his lips.
Li Xiaowan's long eyelashes fluttered like a butterfly's wings a few times, and her bashful face flushed crimson.
A trace of annoyance crept into her eyes as she said with a coquettish pout, "Brother Lin, you are not allowed to drink anymore from now on! Look at you, your cotton-padded jacket was completely soaked yesterday—did you fall into a ditch?"
"You have scrapes on your hands and face, too. Auntie Zhao and Uncle Lin were worried sick."
Listening to Li Xiaowan's words brimming with concern, warmth surged in Lin Yang's chest, and his face bloomed with a smile as brilliant as sunshine.
He couldn't resist reaching out, grabbing Li Xiaowan's wrist directly, and giving it a gentle tug.
Caught off guard, Li Xiaowan tumbled directly onto the kang bed and was instantly caught firmly in Lin Yang's arms.
Lin Yang lowered his head and murmured with a chuckle beside Li Xiaowan's ear, "If you ask me, you were even more worried about me than my mom and dad. And now that you've fallen onto my kang, the two of us can officially be considered to have shared the same bed."
"You... you're talking nonsense!" Li Xiaowan's face turned instantly red down to the roots of her neck, and even her small, adorable ears turned a tender pink like ripe cherries.
Seeing this, Lin Yang's smile deepened. Feeling the scorching heat radiating from Li Xiaowan's face, he pulled her even tighter.
Even though both of them were wearing thick cotton-padded jackets, Lin Yang could still faintly feel the graceful curves of Li Xiaowan's figure hidden beneath her clothes, and a ripple of desire stirred in his heart.
After all, he was a young, full-blooded man in the prime of his youth, and romantic notions naturally drifted into his mind unbidden.
Lin Yang slowly lowered his head, his gaze fixing on Li Xiaowan's alluring, dewy lips as if drawn by an invisible force.
Li Xiaowan lowered her head, gently biting her red lower lip.
Seeming to realize what was about to happen, her heartbeat suddenly accelerated, pounding wildly against her chest like a panicked little deer.
She closed her pretty eyes slightly, her long eyelashes trembling softly as if speaking of the tension and anticipation within her heart.
How could Lin Yang fail to understand Li Xiaowan's intent? This was clearly a posture of surrender, inviting his embrace.
Faced with such a gorgeous sight, if he didn't make a move, there would truly be something wrong with his brain!
Lin Yang immediately leaned forward. Just as his lips were about to touch Li Xiaowan's tender red lips, a loud "bang" echoed as the bedroom door was shoved violently open.
Zhao Guixiang was holding a bowl and chopsticks, originally intending to come in and call Lin Yang for mealtime. But the moment she crossed the threshold, she caught sight of this exact scene. She froze entirely in her tracks, almost dropping the bowl and chopsticks in her hands.
Yet after just a few seconds of stun, she immediately snapped back to reality. A wave of awkwardness washed over her face, and she hurriedly turned and walked back out, muttering under her breath, "I seem to have forgotten something just now!"
"What did you forget?" Lin Dahai's voice came from outside.
Followed immediately by Zhao Guixiang's slightly exasperated scolding: "I forgot to thrash you, you old fogey! You knew this little rabbit was running outside yesterday, why didn't you try to stop him?!"
"Of all things to learn, he had to learn to drink! It's all because of you, you old fool!"
