Not only Sun Daqiang, but the people who had followed him here as well stood frozen like wooden or clay statues, their eyes wide with terror and disbelief.

Although they were not professional hunters, having spent their lives traversing the mountain forests, they possessed a visceral, firsthand understanding of just how formidable a black bear could be.

Looking around, aside from Lin Yang, there was not another soul in sight.

A close inspection of Lin Yang revealed not even the faintest scratch on his body.

This meant that it was highly likely he had hunted this black bear completely unscathed.

Furthermore, judging by the scene before them, this was clearly no opportunistic ambush while the bear was unsuspecting in its den, but the result of a direct, head-on confrontation out in the wild wilderness.

Just imagining that fierce encounter made their scalps tingle.

Had they been in his place, they would long have been scared out of their wits and ended up as nourishment in the bear's belly.

Then they looked at the skinned bear, lying quietly on the ground. Its nearly two-meter-long frame, even devoid of life, still exuded a chilling majesty.

They could not help but wonder to themselves: if this bear were still alive, a casual swipe of its thick, heavy paw would shatter a human's bones in an instant, like brittle, dry twigs.

The sudden barking of a dog snapped them abruptly out of their shocked daze.

Yet the internal shock surged within them like rolling waves, wave after wave, lingering long and refusing to subside.

In Sun Daqiang's eyes, an undisguised greed now welled up, resembling a starved wolf fixing its gaze on prey.

A hypocritically fake smile pulled at the corners of his mouth as he strode toward Lin Yang with what he imagined to be an imposing and majestic gait.

Even after witnessing the astonishing feat that Lin Yang had likely performed by slaying the bear, deep down, he remained filled with utter contempt for the young man.

"Well, well, who would have thought a little punk like you would have such dumb luck today!" Sun Daqiang mocked with sarcastic insinuation. "To think you managed to stumble upon a dead bear—though, I suppose your good fortune has just run out."

"If you know what's good for you, you'll hand everything over obediently. Otherwise, out here in this desolate, uninhabited deep mountain forest, I wouldn't mind sending you off to see the King of Hell. Take a look around—we've got eight people here, plus two dogs."

As he spoke, he purposely hoisted the Type 56 semi-automatic rifle in his hands, patting it with triumphant arrogance. The mockery on his face grew even more intense, as if Lin Yang were nothing more than a helpless ant ready to be crushed between his fingers.

At that moment, Sun Daqiang seemed to think of something, and a notion he considered perfectly logical popped into his head.

He flatly refused to believe that this black bear had been hunted down by Lin Yang with his own hands.

"Hmph, I've heard that the black bear that escaped from the logging station was heavily injured. Chances are it just happened to die right here, and a kid like you merely came along and picked up ready-made loot."

"We, on the other hand, are forest rangers specially dispatched by the forestry team, and this bear is precisely what we've been tracking down."

"However, considering that you did put a bit of effort into processing it, I can show mercy and spare you a few pounds of bear meat. That's already doing you a massive favor!"

By the time he finished speaking, he had leisurely strolled to a spot about ten meters away from Lin Yang, crossing his arms with a lofty, superior posture, as though he were the absolute lord and master of this mountain forest at this very moment.

Upon hearing Sun Daqiang's words, the others first exchanged glances filled with suspicion and doubt.

Yet very soon, like dreamers suddenly awakened by a prompt, expressions of sudden realization dawned upon their faces one after another.

When they had first laid eyes on the bear, they were too consumed by astonishment, wholly preoccupied with pondering how Lin Yang could possibly have hunted it.

Now, prompted by Sun Daqiang's "analysis," they too began to feel that Lin Yang had most likely simply stumbled upon blind luck, scavenging a bear that had been injured and died on its own.

"I knew it! A pampered young master like Lin Yang, usually as frail as a willow, how could he possibly have the skill to hunt a black bear? He really had me fooled for a second there—turns out it was just pure dumb luck!"

A tall, skinny fellow chimed in with a sarcastic sneer, curling his lip in a manner full of undisguised disdain as he looked at Lin Yang.

Lin Yang stood quietly in place, watching their performance of trading lines with a calm expression while a trace of disappointment welled up inside him.

He understood well enough that the system's prey-locking function could not currently be used on humans, likely because the system was still only at the intermediate stage.

Had it reached the advanced stage, perhaps human beings could have been included within the locking range.

After all, the system had previously been able to precisely lock onto hunting dogs even.

Yet even if that possibility existed, he had never intended to use the system's locking feature to attack people.

It was just that given the current circumstances, if these two groups of people were the only ones in these deep mountains, he certainly wouldn't mind letting them learn firsthand what it meant when one said, "There is always a stronger master in the mountains."

However, considering that the forestry team members were nearby, he had to resort to other means.

Lin Yang gazed coldly at Sun Daqiang, his eyes filled with scorn, and said in an icy tone, "Sun Daqiang, were you kicked in the head by a donkey? Whether I hunted this bear or not, what the hell business is it of yours?!"

"And what was that about being forest rangers assigned by the forestry team? Why don't you take a piss and look at your own pathetic reflection—are you even worthy, you damn bastard?!"

One had to know that forest rangers were essentially mountain wardens, just referred to by a different name.

Yet with the despicable demeanor Sun Daqiang exhibited, he was utterly unworthy of taking on such a responsibility.

Sun Daqiang's face instantly flushed crimson, then turned a livid shade of purple-blue.

He was thoroughly provoked into a rage by Lin Yang's words. His eyes bulged as wide as copper bells, and he charged fiercely toward Lin Yang. "You punk, still running your mouth? Believe it or not, I'll blow your brains out right now and toss you into some ditch deep in the mountains to feed wild dogs!"

"Even if you die, it'll be for nothing. There's no evidence anyway—who's to know I was the one who did it?!"

As he spoke, he had already stormed menacingly right up to Lin Yang, raised his hand, and swung viciously with all his might, aiming a heavy slap straight at Lin Yang's face.
