Chapter 151: Wen Shuang Finally Gives Up on Ji Shen for Good
Ji Shen did not expect Wen Shuang to suddenly suggest breaking up.
He frowned, "Wen Shuang, don't let your emotions dictate your actions! It’s not that I don’t trust you; it’s just that Jiang Ning, as the victim, has filed a report. As a police officer, I am required by regulation to bring you in for questioning. This has nothing to do with whether or not you are my girlfriend, do you understand?"
"I don't want to understand."
Wen Shuang’s eyes were filled with disappointment.
"I clearly didn't do anything. Whether as a police officer or as my boyfriend, you should be clearing my name. But you? You just stood there in silence in front of Jiang Ning!"
Whether it was a lack of trust or simply following procedure, Wen Shuang had eyes; she could certainly feel the difference.
If Ji Shen had fully trusted her, he would not have been so silent in the hospital room. He would have defended her and spoken up on her behalf. Yet, in reality, Ji Shen allowed Jiang Ning and her manager to attack her without saying a single word.
What a woman wants most is a man's absolute favoritism and protection. But Ji Shen had failed in every regard. Tonight, he made Wen Shuang taste what it truly felt like to be helpless and abandoned.
"I was silent because I hadn't found evidence to refute her claims yet," Ji Shen said as he opened the police car door. "Wen Shuang, calm down! Acting on impulse is useless. And I am not arresting you right now; I just want to bring you back to investigate clearly."
Men and women are different. They look at problems more rationally. In this situation, the only way to resolve it was to bring Wen Shuang back for a proper investigation—that was the correct course of action.
Wen Shuang got into the car.
It was the same police car she had ridden in for the first time. She remembered when she first sat in the passenger seat, she had joked that she looked like a suspect. She never imagined that one day, she would truly become a suspect and be brought in for interrogation by Ji Shen himself.
The thought was laughable. How could anyone let a relationship reach this point?
Wen Shuang stared at the scenery flashing by outside the window, her eyes red, remaining silent for the entire journey. The atmosphere in the car was heavy and frigid.
As they neared their destination, Wen Shuang said, "Ji Shen, regardless of the outcome, this time, I am truly breaking up with you!"
Ji Shen replied, "Wen Shuang, if you think you can use a breakup as a threat, then let me tell you—it won't work!"
Wen Shuang’s heart was already cold enough. After hearing those words, it turned to ice. So, this was the kind of person she was in Ji Shen’s eyes! To him, a breakup was merely a threat, rather than a genuine decision of her own?
The woman curled her lips into a cold, mocking smile and stepped out of the car with firm determination.

In the interrogation room, under the harsh glare of the lights.
Ten minutes later.
Ji Shen walked in wearing his police uniform, his expression emotionless, exuding a heavy sense of pressure. Xiao Zhang followed behind him.
The uniform that once looked so handsome and heroic now felt entirely unfamiliar. His refined, wild features were shrouded in a layer of cold detachment. Wen Shuang felt a stinging pain in her eyes and finally turned her head away.
"Ms. Wen, please answer every question I ask with the truth," Ji Shen stated by the book.
Xiao Zhang, who was taking notes, felt for Wen Shuang as he watched her expression. He couldn't believe Captain Ji was actually doing this himself! Did he not want a girlfriend anymore?
"The reporter—the victim, Ms. Jiang Ning—claims that you hired five thugs to sexually assault her. Is this true?"
Ji Shen looked up, his long, narrow eyes bottomless.
Wen Shuang said coldly, "I did not!"
Ji Shen pulled five photographs from the table, each showing one of the thugs. "Do you recognize them?"
Wen Shuang: "No, I have never seen them before!"
"Currently, the victim and the five thugs all claim that you are the mastermind. Ms. Wen, have you had any conflicts with Ms. Jiang Ning?" Ji Shen asked with extreme formality.
Wen Shuang sneered, "Jiang Ning is an A-list star in the film industry; I am in the dance world. We have no intersection in reality. The most we have in common is that we both dated the same scumbag boyfriend. But that’s on me for having poor taste, to have ended up with the same one she did!"
After she finished speaking, she brushed back a stray lock of hair. She didn't want to look so disheveled.
Xiao Zhang’s hand paused as he took notes. A "scumbag boyfriend"... wasn't that obviously referring to their Captain Ji?
Ji Shen remained unmoved and continued, "So you have had conflicts, is that correct?"
"There have been conflicts, but every time, it was Ms. Jiang Ning who provoked them," Wen Shuang raised her eyes. "I admit, I don't like Jiang Ning! But I, Wen Shuang, would never stoop to such means to harm someone! I suspect this is all a farce directed and performed by Ms. Jiang Ning herself!"
Then, Ji Shen produced an audio recording as evidence.
"Ms. Wen, are you certain you are telling the truth? If you admit to what you’ve done, your sentence will be reduced. But if you continue to deny it, the legal consequences will be endless!"
His voice suddenly deepened, radiating an invisible sense of pressure. Even though Wen Shuang had never done such a thing, she was startled by him. How could he be so cruel to her?

"I did not! Even if you ask until the sky collapses or the earth splits, that is the only answer you will get from me!" Wen Shuang held her head high, stubborn.
Ji Shen: "Fine!"
Afterward, Ji Shen left and was replaced by a female officer. This officer was even stricter than Ji Shen; she repeated all the questions over and over, switching from gentle to slamming the table in a heartbeat. This was the standard tactic used by their police force to break a suspect's psychological defenses.
Yet, from beginning to end, Wen Shuang insisted on her innocence.
Xiao Zhang, who was taking notes, felt anxious for her. Four hours later, the repetitive, oppressive interrogation finally ended.
Wen Shuang was soaked in sweat, nearly collapsing in her chair. Never in her life had she experienced such an ugly and unbearable moment.
Xiao Zhang pulled out a few tissues and handed them to her. "You’ve worked hard."
Wen Shuang thanked him in a hoarse voice. Her hair was disheveled, sweat clung to her forehead, her eyes were red, and she looked utterly devastated.
After everyone left, the interrogation room was empty.
Wen Shuang’s tears began to fall uncontrollably. One by one, they thudded against the cold surface of the interrogation table. She began to sob. The sense of grievance was overwhelming. She started to wail, clutching a tissue, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't wipe the tears away.
Ji Shen sat far away outside, watching the scene in the interrogation room on the monitor, his own heart feeling stifled and heavy. Interrogating Wen Shuang was not his intention; it was simply the procedure.
Xiao Zhang said from the side, "Captain Ji, sister-in-law... oh, I mean, Ms. Wen, has been under interrogation for over four hours. She looks exhausted. And her statement has remained consistent throughout without any errors. Can we let her go?"
Ji Shen stared intently at the screen. "The 24 hours aren't up yet. She cannot leave!"
Xiao Zhang: "But..."
"There are no 'buts.' Just follow the regulations. Everyone must be treated equally."
"Yes, sir!"
Ji Shen rubbed his temples and hurried toward another interrogation room.
