I am your sky.
She had just arrived at the Rose Hotel.
Taking a deep breath, she suddenly received a call from Qin You: “Anran sprained her ankle, so I’m picking her up from the dance troupe. Let’s reschedule for eight tomorrow night. Wen Shuang, wear a few nicer sets of sexy lingerie then. If you don’t have any, borrow some from your sister—she has plenty of styles!”
Wen Shuang replied coldly, “Since Wen Yao has so many, why don’t you just sleep with her?”
After all, the two of them—one willing, one accepting—Qin You broke up with her and slept with her sister, yet still came to disgust her!
“Wen Shuang, haven’t you heard the saying that what you can’t get always stirs the heart? I’ve never touched you, so naturally I’m interested in your body.” Qin You’s tone was nasty. “Tomorrow night, bathe well and wait for me in bed!”
Wen Shuang gritted her teeth, but was helpless against the man who now held her fate.
She didn’t want Qin You bothering her any further and switched off her phone.

Ji Shen had spent the previous night with the criminal investigation squad staking out near the suspect’s home.
Finally, in the thirty-eighth hour, they arrested the suspect.
After the capture, they coordinated with the local police to prepare for the transfer of the suspect.
Ji Shen had gone several nights without sleep; his narrow eyes were bloodshot.
Xiao Zhang from the squad advised, “Captain Ji, we’ve all rotated shifts these days, but you haven’t slept at all. Maybe we should stay one night in Deer City and head back tomorrow?”
Ji Shen, exhausted after so many sleepless nights, nodded.
He opened his personal phone, only to discover Wen Shuang had called him over a dozen times today!
He immediately dialed back, but her phone was already switched off.
He knew something must have happened—Wen Shuang would never call him so many times without reason.
Ji Shen then phoned Officer Li, who explained everything that had occurred today.
Ji Shen’s brows furrowed. “I’m heading back right now.”
Xiao Zhang was startled. “Captain, if you leave now, you won’t arrive until two or three in the morning!”
Ji Shen was resolute and got behind the wheel.
Transferring suspects wasn’t allowed by plane or high-speed rail, so they had to drive five hours straight.
The captain had gone four or five nights without sleep, and now he was driving back so fiercely—he was really pushing himself!
Heavy rain began to fall outside.
Wen Shuang walked out of the Rose Hotel, lost and broken.
A kind stranger stopped her, saying, “Miss, it’s raining. If you go out like this, you’ll catch a cold.”
Wen Shuang’s face was ashen. “I’m fine, thank you.”
Others were running, using their bags to shield their heads or huddling beneath eaves for shelter.
Only Wen Shuang, under the strange glances of passersby, walked straight into the downpour without hesitation. In an instant, she was soaked through, trembling so violently she shivered.
Raindrops beat against her pale face, and Wen Shuang could no longer tell if what slid down her cheeks was rain or tears.
She was truly at a dead end.
She even thought, if she spent the night drenched in rain and developed a fever tomorrow, maybe Qin You would finally let her go?
No, that wasn’t right. Someone like Qin You would never let her off so easily! If Summer Anran hadn’t sprained her ankle tonight, he’d probably already be tormenting her.
Wen Shuang wandered aimlessly.
She thought perhaps she could just walk like this through the darkness until dawn.
After all, when the sun rose tomorrow, she would no longer be the Wen Shuang of yesterday.
Her feet went numb.
She moved in a haze.
She didn’t know how long she walked.
Suddenly, a police siren sounded in the distance!
Wen Shuang jolted and reflexively looked up. From the police car, a figure leapt out, holding a large black umbrella, striding quickly toward her.
“Wen Shuang!”
It was Ji Shen—whom she hadn’t seen in seven days!
But hadn’t he said he wouldn’t return until the day after tomorrow? Besides, his phone had been unreachable; how had he found her here? Wen Shuang felt as if she were dreaming...
“Officer Ji...”
The woman wore a snow-white dress, completely drenched, her apricot eyes swollen from crying silently for a long time.
Ji Shen’s heart wrenched.
“It’s only been a few days, and you’ve turned yourself into this again.” Standing in the rain, he lifted Wen Shuang into his arms. “Teacher Wen, you really don’t make things easy for me.”
Wen Shuang clung to his neck and suddenly broke down, sobbing.
“Why—why did you come back so suddenly?”
“These days I’ve been so busy catching the suspect, I hadn’t time to turn on my personal phone. When I finally did and saw all your missed calls, I rushed back immediately.” The five-hour drive was brushed aside with a single sentence by the man. “After I returned, I spent half an hour at the station searching for you through the city’s cameras. But in the end, I found you, Teacher Wen.”
Wen Shuang cried, pressing herself against him.
She had never shown such vulnerability before him.
Ji Shen’s gaze was deep. “Tell me, who bullied you? I’ll tear their skin off.”
Wen Shuang was too distraught to speak.
All she could do was clutch his sleeve, like a drowning person grasping at driftwood.
At this moment, Ji Shen was like a god descending from the heavens—her only salvation.
Feeling her excessive dependence, Ji Shen tightened his embrace.
“Don’t be afraid. Even if the sky falls, I’ll hold it up for you.”
Once in the car, the criminal investigation squad all turned to look at Wen Shuang—so this was the lady for whom Captain Ji had rushed back overnight!
“Hello, sister-in-law!”
A chorus of respectful greetings sounded in the police car.
Wen Shuang was startled as soon as she got in and dared not cry any longer.
Ji Shen wrapped her tightly from head to toe in his own jacket; otherwise, in her drenched state, those damned young men would get quite the eyeful!
“No noise. Everyone shut up.”
Ji Shen sat in the far corner, one arm around Wen Shuang.
But someone couldn’t resist speaking up.
“Sister-in-law, Captain Ji drove five hours straight from Deer City to come back for you. As soon as he finished the handover at the detention center, he went straight to the station to search for your whereabouts!”
“And Captain Ji hasn’t slept in five days. The first thing he did after returning was look for you, shows how much he cares.”
Wen Shuang was astonished. “Officer Ji—you haven’t rested in so many days?”
Ji Shen stroked her wet hair. “Don’t listen to these boys’ nonsense. Anyone who says another word will have to write a three-thousand-word reflection for me tomorrow.”
The young officers immediately fell silent.
They could only protest with their eyes.
Ji Shen, ever forceful, would never let Wen Shuang stay among so many men in a car.
Once they reached the apartment, he carried Wen Shuang inside, and she obediently remained in his arms.
Xiao Zhang had thought Wen Shuang ran out after quarreling with Ji Shen.
He stroked his chin. “Say, when sister-in-law runs away from home because she’s upset, she’s got quite the temper. Can Captain Ji handle it?”
“Captain Ji can’t handle it at all. Did you see how worthless he looked just now? He only gets tough with us, all his gentleness goes to her!”
“But sister-in-law is really beautiful—even in the rain, she’s so delicate and lovely. No wonder Captain Ji drove five hours to get back!”
Xiao Zhang gave the speaker a knock on the head. “Sister-in-law is not for you to fantasize about, you rascal!”
Ji Shen carried Wen Shuang directly into the bathroom, turned the heat all the way up, and began unfastening her buttons.
