Why are there only sizzling hot bikinis left?
Wen Shuang was surprised; she’d always assumed that someone as busy as Ji Shen never had weekends. After all, she’d seen him go three consecutive weeks without a single day off.
“I finally managed to wrap up all my cases after working overtime these past few days. Tomorrow’s perfect for taking you out for a breath of fresh air, Teacher Wen,” Ji Shen said as he unbuttoned his jacket and placed his watch on the table. “Where would you like to go?”
There was indeed a place Wen Shuang wanted to visit. Ever since graduation, life had been hectic, and she’d never had the chance.
“I’d like to go to Lingyue Island.”
Ji Shen’s lips curled in a smile. “No problem.”
Early the next morning, Ji Shen drove Wen Shuang to Lingyue Island. The little island, nestled by the sea, boasted breathtaking scenery and was a favorite destination for social media influencers. It took over four hours to get there by car.
Wen Shuang sat in the passenger seat. “Officer Ji, if you get tired, I can take over.”
“My record is seven hours straight, driving while escorting suspects,” Ji Shen replied as he pulled down the sun visor for her. “Teacher Wen, just close your eyes and take a nap. When you open them, we’ll be there.”
Wen Shuang drifted off to sleep. Sure enough, when she opened her eyes, they had arrived.
Ji Shen showed no sign of fatigue, clad in a pale blue short-sleeved shirt that emphasized his cool, handsome demeanor—strikingly distinguished. It was true what they said: police officers have bodies forged from iron.
As it was the weekend, they planned a two-day, one-night trip. The first stop was a seaside resort where they checked into their room.
After taking their ID cards, the receptionist asked, “Sir, Miss, how many rooms will you need?”
Ji Shen raised an eyebrow.
Wen Shuang answered swiftly, “One!”
“Would you prefer a king bed or twin beds?” the receptionist inquired.
Wen Shuang replied, “King bed!”
Ji Shen’s wild, masculine brows arched even higher.
He took the room card and wheeled Wen Shuang’s suitcase behind her, though he couldn’t quite understand how Wen Shuang managed to pack so much for just one night.
Once inside the elevator, he lowered his voice, “Teacher Wen, you really want to share a room with me, hmm?”
Wen Shuang brushed her wavy hair back, “Is that a problem?”
“I couldn’t wish for anything more,” he replied.
Wen Shuang smiled, lips gently curved.
The previous night, after Ji Shen agreed to go see the sea with her, she had stuffed all five pairs of black silk stockings into her suitcase—along with several lace bras of various styles.
Tonight, she was determined to win Ji Shen over.
After settling their things at the hotel, Wen Shuang moved to draw the curtains, but Ji Shen’s unhurried voice stopped her. “Teacher Wen, don’t be so eager. It’s not even dark yet.”
Wen Shuang paused, a little embarrassed. To be honest, she just found the sunlight a bit harsh and wanted to close the curtains. She wasn’t about to indulge in broad daylight, after all.
Ji Shen found Wen Shuang’s flustered expression particularly amusing. He chose a highly rated seaside restaurant and took her out for lunch.
Wen Shuang changed into a vacation-style, spaghetti-strap maxi dress and applied the trendy soft-glam makeup of the season. Her chestnut waves flowed behind her, causing every gaze to linger as she passed.
Ji Shen handed her the menu.
Wen Shuang ordered only two or three dishes.
“Teacher Wen, such a small appetite?”
As a dance major, Wen Shuang was used to eating light to stay in shape. “My body fat percentage has gone up lately. I need to start watching my diet.”
“I think your figure is just right,” Ji Shen replied as he took the menu. “Curves where they should be, slender where they should be. Fuller is even more beautiful.”
Wen Shuang wasn’t one of those stick-thin types. Her body was voluptuous and shapely—slender in all the right places.
She truly fit the ideal of masculine aesthetic.
Wen Shuang’s lips curved into a soft smile. “As long as Officer Ji likes it.”
Their eyes met, full of unspoken tension.
“Well, if it isn’t Ji Shen! The sun must be rising in the west today; Officer Ji actually isn’t working overtime!” Yu Tian suddenly appeared out of nowhere, with a sophisticated beauty by his side.
Wen Shuang recognized Yu Tian. She’d met Ji Shen at his birthday party, sneaking into the dressing room to strike up a conversation.
Yu Tian, ever attentive to attractive women, pointed at Wen Shuang. “I’ve seen this gorgeous lady before. Ji Shen, no wonder you’ve been turning down our invitations lately. You’re secretly keeping your beauty hidden away!”
Ji Shen raised his brows and didn’t deny it. “And what of it?”
“That’s not fair,” Yu Tian replied, stroking his chin. “If He Suosuo hears you’re dating, she’ll probably catch the next flight to come after you.”
Ji Shen’s smile faded a bit.
“Why bring that up?” he said.
Wen Shuang hesitated. He Suosuo was Ji Shen’s ex-girlfriend?
Yu Tian smiled, clarifying, “Don’t misunderstand. He Suosuo is just a pursuer—she’s been chasing Ji Shen for more than ten years, but never caught him.”
Ji Shen declared, “I’ve only ever seen her as a sister.”
Wen Shuang was surprised. She hadn’t even defined their relationship yet, and Ji Shen was willing to explain for her.
Yu Tian continued rambling until Ji Shen, clearly unimpressed, asked, “Are you done? You can leave now.”
“How can you just kick me out?” Yu Tian plopped down in a chair. “I’m not going anywhere. It’s rare to run into Officer Ji—let’s make the most of it.”
He pulled his companion down beside him—a woman named Zhouzhou.
As a wealthy young heir, Yu Tian’s reputation preceded him. He was the third son of the Yu family, famed in Beijing for his handsome looks and notorious playboy ways. He’d passed through countless flowers, but never lingered on a single leaf—everywhere he went, he left a trail of admirers.
Zhouzhou’s figure was striking, and dressed in just a bandeau, her cleavage seemed ready to spill forth. She greeted Wen Shuang with a smile.
Ji Shen tried to usher them away, but Yu Tian, thick-skinned and shameless, called Zhou Fang over as well, saying that Ji Shen had brought a female companion and everyone should come and see.
Zhou Fang happened to be nearby and rushed over with his own date—a delicate, innocent beauty.
Wen Shuang hadn’t expected that, in the end, six people would sit down for lunch together.
“So, what are your plans for the afternoon?” Zhou Fang asked, fingers interlaced on his knee.
Ji Shen replied, “A stroll by the sea, collecting shells.”
Yu Tian’s eyes sparkled. “Officer Ji, that’s so old-fashioned! Since we’re all here, let’s ride speedboats this afternoon. Ji Shen, weren’t you the best at this?”
Ji Shen glanced at Wen Shuang, seeking her opinion. “Would you like to?”
Wen Shuang’s brows arched with interest. She’d wanted to try speedboats ever since before graduation.
She agreed without hesitation.
Yu Tian grinned. “Straightforward!”
As they headed for the beach, Zhou Fang said, “Ladies, your dresses are so long—how are you going to get on the speedboats? Watch out, a single wave might soak your skirts and you’ll be putting on a show right here on the sand.”
Yu Tian pointed to the left. “You can go change into swimsuits.”
None of the three women had expected to ride speedboats and hadn’t brought swimsuits.
The shop only stocked sizzling, skimpy bikinis.
Wen Shuang asked, “Madam, do you have anything more modest?”
“Sorry, young lady, all the conservative styles sold out today. Only these are left,” the shop owner replied, eyeing Wen Shuang’s figure. “But with your shape, you’ll look amazing in anything!”
