What have they all done to you?
Wen Shuang’s eyes dropped, betraying a hint of guilt. “I... I...”
“This is a matter pertaining to the case, Miss Wen. Please answer truthfully,” Ji Shen pressed, watching her closely.
Biting her lip, Wen Shuang finally spoke, “I had business at the hotel at ten. When I arrived, someone at the entrance suddenly informed me the location had been changed at the last minute. I didn’t think much of it and got into the car.”
Ji Shen’s gaze darkened. “After you regained consciousness, what did they do to you?”
The very thought made Wen Shuang tremble uncontrollably. Surrounded by four or five police officers, her lips pressed together in shame until she left a mark.
A female officer offered comfort, “It’s alright, Miss Wen. We’re not trying to expose your privacy. We just want to understand the situation so those people can be brought to justice quickly.”
Wen Shuang took a deep breath. “When I woke up, they’d already set up cameras from every angle, saying someone above wanted a comprehensive close-up video of me. I pretended to cooperate, suggesting they let me go and I’d pay them ten million once I was out. But they didn’t believe me. They started to touch me...”
She couldn’t go on.
Ji Shen’s face remained impassive. “How many touched you, and where exactly?”
Tears welled in Wen Shuang’s eyes. “...At first it was just one. He touched my chest. Then... you arrived. So they didn’t succeed.”
A storm brewed in Ji Shen’s eyes, hidden from all but himself. He pulled out a tissue and handed it to her. “Did those kidnappers say anything else? Did they mention who was behind it?”
Wen Shuang’s voice caught. “No.”
She suspected Qin You was behind it, but Ji Shen was his uncle; she dared not say more.
When the statement was finished, Ji Shen dismissed the others from the room. He stood alone in the sunlight by the window, his uniform immaculate, his presence commanding.
“Miss Wen, lastly, I’d like to ask a personal question, just on my own behalf.”
Wen Shuang lifted her gaze. “Go ahead, Officer Ji.”
“I want to ask, that night when you went to the Rose Hotel, was it to sleep with another man?”
Wen Shuang’s face froze, speech caught in her throat. She managed, “Officer Ji, you’ve misunderstood me. I did not.”
Her eyes flickered to the right, an unconscious gesture of unease.
Ji Shen’s lips curled in a cold smile. “Miss Wen, as a woman, you should have more self-respect. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have fallen into someone’s trap, would you?”
His words stung, and Wen Shuang lowered her head.
“But which man you choose to sleep with is your business, Miss Wen. It’s not my place to interfere.”
With that, he left her, cold and distant.
Wen Shuang clutched the bedsheet tightly. Ji Shen’s words left no doubt—he was calling her shameless. But that night, she’d truly had no other choice. If she hadn’t gone to see Qin You, her father would never have had another chance to recover!
And she hadn’t actually intended to sleep with Qin You. She only planned to buy time, get him to release her father first, then find another way to deal with him.
She plugged in her phone, and as soon as it powered on, she saw more than fifty missed calls, half from Tang Yan, the rest all from Qin You.
That scoundrel actually had the nerve to call her!
“Wen Shuang, I waited for you all night. You dare stand me up? You’re finished!” Qin You’s angry voice came through.
Wen Shuang frowned, “Wasn’t it you who orchestrated my kidnapping?”
“What kidnapping?” he roared, then grew anxious. “You mean you didn’t answer my calls all night because you were kidnapped? Where are you now?”
Wen Shuang replied coldly, “Qin You, you’re still pretending? If it wasn’t you who sent people to kidnap and violate me, who else would have known I’d go to the Rose Hotel last night?”
There was sudden silence.
Qin You’s voice turned grave. “It wasn’t me. I waited for you at the hotel all night, tried calling, but your phone was off.”
“You know best whether that’s true! Qin You, in the past three years I’ve never wronged you! It was you who dumped me to get engaged to Xia Anran, you who drove my family to bankruptcy. Now you want to see me gang-raped by those men? Are you even human? You’re worse than an animal! The police are investigating now—you can wait to be thrown in jail!”
She hung up on him after her tirade.
Other than Qin You, she’d told no one else about going to the hotel. Who else could it have been?
Qin You was left bewildered.
He’d destroyed the Wen family just to have Wen Shuang for himself; there was no way he’d hand her over to another man. He hadn’t told anyone she’d be at the Rose Hotel.
Unless... someone had checked his phone without his knowledge. Or someone had followed Wen Shuang.
“Brother Qin, what are you thinking about?” Xia Anran sidled up to him, wrapping her arm around his. “Didn’t you promise to take me to that new Western restaurant for lunch? Why aren’t we leaving yet?”
He snapped back to himself and smiled, “Let’s go, my little princess.”
She pouted, “Where were you last night? I messaged you but you didn’t reply. Don’t tell me there’s another new woman in your phone?”
“Of course not.” He tapped her nose playfully. “I was working late at the office, so I didn’t see your messages.”
“Hmph! You have to reply on time from now on, or I’ll get mad!”
He agreed quickly. Xia Anran was spoiled and far less gentle than Wen Shuang, but for the sake of her family’s status, he was always the one humoring her.
As they ate, he asked casually, “Anran, did you touch my phone yesterday?”
She blinked in confusion. “No, why? What’s wrong, Brother Qin?”
He didn’t see anything suspicious in her expression.
“It’s nothing. Just asking. Eat more—you’ve gotten thinner lately, and it worries me.”
…
Tang Yan came to visit Wen Shuang. After hearing what had happened, she fumed in the hospital room, “That despicable bastard! He ruined your family, and now he sends people to rape you? Is he some kind of psychopath who destroys what he can’t have? Men like him should be sent straight to a mental asylum!”
“Wait, Yan Yan. I thought it over, and maybe it wasn’t Qin You.”
Wen Shuang recounted everything from beginning to end. “At first, I thought it was him too. But thinking carefully, his only goal has always been to make me his mistress. Why would he go to such lengths just after I agreed? Given his possessive nature, it doesn’t make sense.”
“Then who could it be?”
A name surfaced in Wen Shuang’s mind.
“Xia Anran.”
