What a miserable scene lay before her! Qingli thought.

There in the space was a delicate little flower, and beside it sat a cat whose fur was entirely red, and next to that lay a man. Wait—a man? Qingli looked at Qinyu with confusion.

Qinyu pinched her nose, inwardly screaming, Why hasn't the stench dissipated yet! Why!

Of course Qingli could smell that intoxicating stench too, but in his eyes, that wasn't the most important thing. The most important thing was—why was there a man inside Yu'er's space!

Qingli strode over, nudged the man's hand with his foot, and turned around to ask, "Yu'er, who is this?"

"Oh, that... how should I put it? Maybe a zombie, maybe a human. I don't really know. But he's someone's beloved from my team! He's staying in my space for now."

"Someone's beloved from your team?" Qingli thought back over Qinyu's team. There was only one woman—Zhao Meng—and she was already paired up with that man named Xia Cheng. Could it be...

"What are you thinking about? That girl isn't in our team right now." Thinking of Tao, a flicker of pain passed through Qinyu's eyes.

Of course, Qingli, who was constantly watching Qinyu, caught that look. Seeing the sorrow in Yu'er's eyes, he wisely chose not to press further.

Just then, Little Red wagged its tail, padded over to Qingli, circled him a few times, and then scampered back to Qinyu, trembling all over as it said, "He-he-he..."

Qinyu scooped up Little Red and stroked its bristling fur. "What about him?"

Little Red said, "He-he's amazing! Way more powerful than you, you half-baked master! Quick! I want to acknowledge him as my master!"

Hearing this, Qinyu immediately flung Little Red toward Qingli and said, "Hmph! You, get lost!"

Little Red landed perfectly on Qingli's shoulder, licked its own paw, and said, "I'm gone!"

Qinyu's face instantly darkened. Seeing her like this, Qingli walked over and drew her into his arms, saying, "Alright, isn't what's mine yours too? Don't lower yourself to argue with this little thing."

But inwardly, Qingli was thinking: Damn it, it dared to run into Yu'er's arms! He hadn't even gotten to cuddle her yet! His Yu'er had never stroked his fur! That thing actually took advantage of her! Better keep it by my side where it's safe! Hmph, just wait and see how I deal with it later!

If Little Red had known what its newly acknowledged master was thinking, it probably would have scampered right back into Qinyu's arms in a heartbeat. After all, its own little life mattered more!

Qinyu shot Qingli a glare, then crouched down and said to Little Dusk, who was swaying back and forth, "At least you're good. Not like some ungrateful wretch!"

Feeling its master's praise, Little Dusk swayed its body even more eagerly. Sensing its joy, Qinyu drew her dagger, ready to feed it some of her blood—but before she could, Qingli snatched the dagger away.

"What are you doing?" Qingli asked with a stern expression.

Qinyu was taken aback, then explained, "This little one needs my blood to survive, so—"

Qingli furrowed his brow. "Let me do it." With that, he sliced his own finger with the dagger. The blood flowed freely, and Little Dusk absorbed Qingli's blood, slowly rocking its petals.

"Brother Li, you—" Qinyu started, then hesitated.

Qingli paid no mind to that. In his eyes, if he was by Yu'er's side and she still got hurt, he would consider himself a sinner!

Seeing that Qingli's finger was still dripping blood, Qinyu hastily brought it to her lips. Qingli felt the softness of her mouth, and his eyes were filled with satisfaction.

At that moment, Little Dusk's petals stopped swaying. It suddenly retreated a hundred meters away, then abruptly began to swell in size.

Qinyu, Qingli, and Little Red all stared at the enormous flower before them, completely astonished. What on earth was going on!

Little Dusk's body kept expanding, its petals nearly covering the entire space. Two or three minutes later, it suddenly shrank until not even a trace of it could be seen. Several dozen seconds after that, the massive shadow of the flower once again loomed over the space. Then it shrank out of sight again...

It went on like that, growing and shrinking a dozen times, until finally Little Dusk returned to its normal size. It hopped and bounded over to Qingli, then spoke, "Thank you, Master!" Its crisp, clear voice snapped Qinyu out of her daze.

Qinyu looked at the bouncing Little Dusk and asked, "What was that just now?"

"Master, I was evolving! I never thought Master's blood would be so powerful. I thought it would be a long time before I could speak!" Little Dusk said happily.

"Oh, and who are you calling Master?" Qinyu asked.

"Why, the two of you, of course!" Little Dusk answered matter-of-factly.

"Both of us? How so?" Qinyu pressed.

"Mm... it's just the two of you!" Little Dusk asserted with a tone that allowed no argument.

Qinyu pressed a hand to her forehead. It seemed that even though it could speak now, having a normal conversation was still out of the question.

Qingli spoke up. "So whoever gives you blood becomes your master?"

Little Dusk fell silent for a moment, then said, "You could say that, but I can only have the two of you as my masters!"

Qingli looked at the ceaselessly hopping flower and asked, "Why only the two of us?"

"Mm... because Master's blood is very powerful! I can't absorb anyone else's blood anymore, or I'd explode and die!" Little Dusk replied.

"Then why can you absorb both of our bloods at the same time?" Qingli asked again.

"No idea! But it's fine as long as I absorb the two of yours together," Little Dusk said happily, shaking its petals.

Seeing how cheerful Little Dusk was, Qingli knew he wouldn't get any more answers out of it. He looked at Qinyu, who wore a disgruntled expression, and said, "Yu'er, where did you find this flower?"

Qinyu thought for a moment, then said, "It just suddenly appeared in my space after that vein of ore vanished. I don't know where it came from either. At the time, I thought it was nice—lose one thing, gain another."

Qingli smiled and ruffled Qinyu's hair. "Well then, let's head out. The smell in here is really something else."

Qinyu nodded, then pulled Qingli out of the space with her—along with Little Red, who had been crouched on Qingli's shoulder, and Little Green, coiled around Little Red's neck.

The moment she was out, Qinyu took several deep breaths. Heaven knew how awful the stench in there had been! She swore that decades' worth of stinky tofu couldn't have smelled worse!

Qingli, on the other hand, looked completely unbothered. He'd smelled things far worse than that before; what was a little stench compared to that?

Watching Qinyu's face, which had gone pale from the foul air, gradually regain its rosy color, Qingli couldn't resist and planted a kiss right on her cheek.

Mm, just as soft as he'd imagined. Qingli thought, a little unsatisfied. He really wanted to take another bite.

And because Qingli had bent down, the jade pendant he always kept near his heart slipped free and fell into Qinyu's hands.

The pendant shimmered with an eerie light, beckoning those who saw it to pick it up.
