Chapter 115: Meeting Old Man Dong Again
Qing Li looked at Qin Yu, who was acting a bit petulant, and the smile in her eyes deepened. As expected, Yu’er was still the same Yu’er, not changed at all.
“All right, we’ve finished looking around the space. Let’s head out—someone might come looking for us, hmm?” Qing Li said with a smile.
Thinking of her little friends, Qin Yu nodded and replied, “Okay, let’s go.” She took Qing Li’s hand and led her out of the space.
As soon as Qin Yu and Qing Li vanished, a figure emerged from behind the house, staring at the spot where they’d disappeared, unmoving for a long time.
On the other side, just as Qin Yu and Qing Li stepped out of the space, they heard knocking at the door.
“Boss, boss! Master Dong needs to see you!” Xue Qi’s booming voice called out from outside.
Qin Yu glanced at Qing Li, silently asking who Master Dong was.
Qing Li explained, “He’s a weapons master I know. I saved his life once; he was grateful and had nowhere else to go, so he stayed to help me make weapons.”
Qin Yu nodded, then said, “If he’s looking for you, it must be important. You should go see him!”
Qing Li took Qin Yu’s hand, saying, “Let’s go together,” and led her to the door.
Outside, Xue Qi looked conflicted—was it really okay to disturb the boss and the lady? But remembering how Master Dong said he had urgent news, Xue Qi sighed. It’s not easy being a subordinate these days!
The creak of the opening door interrupted Xue Qi’s anxious thoughts. He looked at the boss and lady, their hands entwined, and his expression turned odd. Oh dear, someone’s showing off their affection here!
Qin Yu glanced at the disgruntled Xue Qi and laughed, “Your people are really amusing!”
Hearing this, Qing Li immediately shot Xue Qi a sharp look and barked, “Hurry up and lead the way! Didn’t you say there was something urgent?”
Xue Qi shuddered and quickly headed out. This boss was terrifying! He hadn’t even done anything!
Xue Qi didn’t realize that, in Qing Li’s eyes, Yu’er could only praise him, and no one else.
Qing Li watched Xue Qi sprint away, then lowered her head to speak gently to Qin Yu, “Yu’er, let’s go too.”
Having watched the entire display, Qin Yu thought her man looked incredibly handsome!
Worried that Master Dong might have something especially important to discuss with Qing Li, the two quickened their pace and soon arrived at the place where Master Fu resided.
It was a villa, smaller than Qin Yu’s, home to some of Qing Li’s trusted aides and the base for his secret affairs.
Qing Li led Qin Yu into the villa’s living room, where they saw a man dressed in a white coat and grey trousers sitting with a solemn expression, sighing from time to time.
Qin Yu felt vaguely familiar with the man, and as she approached, she exclaimed in surprise, “Master Dong?”
Master Dong looked up and, seeing the familiar girl before him, broke into a delighted smile. “So it’s you, little girl! I knew we’d meet again, haha!”
Qin Yu hurried over and helped Master Dong sit, asking, “Master Dong, how did you end up here? How have you been lately?”
Master Dong sighed, “I nearly lost my life, but thanks to Lord Qing’s help, I survived. But now’s not the time for catching up. Once this matter is settled, we can reminisce properly!”
Qing Li stepped forward, asking, “Master Dong, what’s troubling you?”
Master Dong replied miserably, “The first batch of weapons I made passed the tests well enough, but when I checked them just now, they were all damaged! Even the unused materials are gone—such a waste, all those materials and days of hard work!”
“Damaged? Was it sabotage?” Qing Li’s face darkened. If it was sabotage—
Master Dong frowned, “Not sabotage. It must’ve been some kind of animal—there are bite marks everywhere, but I can’t tell what kind. For it to bite through my weapons, its teeth must be incredibly sharp. Most importantly, none of us knows where it came from or when it broke those weapons—whether it was acting under someone’s instructions or something else.”
Qing Li pondered, then said, “Let’s go take a look.”
Qin Yu and Master Dong nodded and followed Qing Li into the basement.
The basement was filled with broken weapons. Qin Yu couldn’t help but grimace—there wasn’t a single intact piece left! Judging by the state of things, whatever animal had done this was quite fierce.
Qin Yu carefully avoided the shattered blades on the floor and walked over to Qing Li, who stood at the center. “Have you discovered anything?”
Qing Li closed his eyes for a moment, silent. After several seconds, he looked at a certain spot and said to Qin Yu, “It’s fine, I think I know what it is. Let’s head out.”
Qin Yu and Master Dong were bewildered—they’d barely entered, and now they were leaving? Wasn’t it too perfunctory?
Qing Li squeezed Qin Yu’s hand and signaled with his eyes that they should speak outside.
Qin Yu nodded quietly. Seeing the two leave, Master Dong hurried to close the basement door behind them.
From the shadowy corner where Qing Li had just stared, a mouse crept out. It was about the size of a human palm, with a long tail. The mouse twisted its little head and wiped imaginary cold sweat from its brow with its paw, muttering, “Scared me to death! That man is terrifying! I’d better get out of here!”
Meanwhile, Qing Li led Qin Yu out of the basement and back to the hall, settling on the sofa.
Seeing Qin Yu’s curiosity, Qing Li explained, “It was probably a mouse, though I’m not sure what kind. It seems to have destroyed the weapons. I’ll have someone put more weapons in there and we’ll try to catch it.”
Qin Yu nodded, then asked in confusion, “How did you know it was a mouse? I didn’t see anything at all!”
Qing Li gently stroked Qin Yu’s hair. “I’m a psychic—my mental strength is stronger and more sensitive than most. I used my powers to probe the basement and discovered something there. After a closer look, I knew it was a mouse.”
Master Dong listened from behind, thinking Lord Qing’s abilities were even greater than he’d imagined! With such a master, the other old men would surely be envious.
Thinking of those old friends, a trace of worry flickered through Master Dong’s eyes. He didn’t know where they were—once this matter was settled, he’d ask Boss Qing for help finding them. After all, their abilities weren’t weak, and if Lord Qing could recruit them, he’d surely be pleased.
Master Dong’s thoughts drifted far afield, while the old men he missed were thriving in the distant city base, not at all concerned about his safety. If Master Dong knew, he’d surely give them a good scolding! Ha!
