Chapter Seventeen: Shifting Dimensions
After Qin Yu fainted, Zhao Meng hurried over to shield her.
Zhang Kuang also saw that Qin Yu had been scratched. Watching her collapse, he sighed inwardly—what a pity to lose such a promising talent.
Wang Bing, however, hadn’t noticed Qin Yu’s injury. He only saw her fall and felt puzzled, but assumed she was simply exhausted. So he said to Zhao Meng, “Miss Zhao, please get Miss Qin onto our vehicle. I’ll go find something to eat.”
Zhao Meng had no energy to say anything else at this point. She lifted Qin Yu into her arms and carried her to the car.
Zhang Kuang, witnessing this, found it unexpectedly amusing and ordered everyone to rest here for a while.
Inside the vehicle, Zhao Meng examined the place where Qin Yu had been scratched, now blackening rapidly. Whatever she thought of in that moment sent her rushing back outside. She stirred the brains of the zombie that had attacked Qin Yu and extracted a clear, crystalline object.
So it was all true—everything from the novels. That’s what everyone thought as they watched the scene unfold. Before Zhang Kuang could comment, Zhao Meng dashed back into the car and pressed the crystal core to Qin Yu’s wound.
Wang Bing had intended to say it was useless—the crystal core needed to be absorbed by the body itself—but before he could speak, the crystal began to glow. After a short while, only a pile of powder remained, and when they looked again at Qin Yu’s wound, it had completely healed—not even a scar left behind.
Seeing this, Zhao Meng’s heart leapt with joy, the tension finally released. Now, all that remained was to wait for Qin Yu to wake up. In the meantime, she needed to find something to eat.
Qin Yu felt miserable. She knew she had been scratched. As fragments of memories from her past life surfaced, she still didn’t know why that man called Li Mo had betrayed her, but recalling how she’d died in her previous life filled her with a burning hatred—she wanted nothing more than to grind Li Mo’s bones to dust.
And to think she had fallen into his trap yet again! Just when Qin Yu thought she was doomed, a sudden coolness swept over her, and her consciousness drifted to an unfamiliar place—her own space, though she didn’t realize it at first.
Looking around, everything felt so familiar! Then she remembered—this was her space, the one she had awakened after her rebirth. Elation flooded her; now she knew she needn’t worry too much about food.
Suddenly, her space began to change. The once scattered mineral veins started to converge, and the warehouse materialized before her eyes. Then, in the east of the space, a swirling mist appeared, and the word “poison fog” echoed in her mind. Qin Yu guessed it was the mutated zombie’s poison, though she couldn’t explain why it had entered her space.
The poisonous fog wasn’t large, just quietly coiled in a corner. Oddly, Qin Yu found the little mass rather cute.
After enjoying the sight for a while, she withdrew her consciousness from the space.
Outside, as Zhao Meng watched Qin Yu’s complexion grow rosier, her initial worry gave way to exasperation. She knew Qin Yu must have gained some new benefit—her cheeks were now glowing with health.
When Qin Yu finally awoke, she saw Zhao Meng looking at her with a face full of grievance. Startled, Qin Yu asked, “Xiao Meng, what are you doing?”
Hearing this, Zhao Meng was surprised. “Xiao Yu, have you regained your memory?”
“A little, not all of it yet…” Qin Yu replied, rubbing her temples.
“I see. Come on, Xiao Yu—have something to eat,” Zhao Meng said, handing her the porridge she had just prepared.
Qin Yu took the bowl, glanced at Zhao Meng, and tilted her head back to drink it all in one go.
Wang Bing, watching Qin Yu gulp down the porridge so heartily, felt his worldview shatter yet again.
Qin Yu said nothing to Zhao Meng about her space. In her opinion, the more one knew, the sooner they died—and this secret was her final trump card, not to be shared with anyone.
