Chapter Thirty-Four: Undercurrents Stir
Qin Yu gazed at the newly upgraded dagger, feeling immensely pleased... After tidying up her storage space, she took out a portion of firearms and cold weapons, along with some supplies, placing them around the room... Once everything was arranged, she instructed Zhao Meng to summon the others to her quarters.
Inside the room, Zhao Meng and the rest stared in astonishment at the abundance of weapons and food laid out before Qin Yu. Unable to hold back, Zhao Meng spoke first, "Xiao Yu, what’s all this?"
Qin Yu offered a faint smile. "These are things I’ve collected. There’s not much left in my space, so I called everyone here today to share these supplies among you."
"Boss Qin, this... you..." Wang Bing hesitated, trailing off.
Qin Yu glanced at him. "It’s not what you think..." She saw Wang Bing breathe a sigh of relief.
"Then what is it?"
"In this base, there are hidden talents everywhere. We are newcomers, without power or connections. If we can’t carve out a place for ourselves, we’ll be swallowed up. I refuse to become someone else’s subordinate—do you understand?" Qin Yu looked around at them, speaking slowly.
"Understood!" they responded in unison.
"So, I’m putting these things out today so you can prepare for a tough battle—not just against zombies, but against those with malicious intentions." Qin Yu watched their reactions, then continued, "You don’t need to know where these came from. All you need to do is get stronger—again and again."
They nodded seriously, determined in their hearts that they would only pledge loyalty to Boss Qin.
Qin Yu pointed to the supplies. "Go ahead and divide them. Remember to keep your abilities hidden—don’t do anything unnecessary."
Everyone nodded, then began choosing weapons according to their skills and preferences. Qin Yu watched, feeling a sense of comfort.
What she hadn’t revealed was that, aside from refusing to be anyone’s vassal, she needed a certain strength to search for someone—a person whose name was etched deeply in her mind...
The name "Qing Li" had abruptly appeared in her head since the day the apocalypse began, along with blurred, fragmented memories of calling him "Brother Li." Yet everything was too vague and uncertain. Still, a voice whispered "City S," compelling her to come here without hesitation. Unfortunately, apart from the place and the name, she knew nothing else.
She feared that when she arrived in City S, he might already be gone. She feared he could meet disaster before she found him. She feared... there were too many fears, but now, she had no other choice.
She must establish her own power in the shortest time possible!
Meanwhile, in a luxurious villa within the base, Qing Li stared at a softly glowing jade pendant, lost in thought...
Beside him, Xue Qi—the one with the baby face—caught a sly glint in his eye and quietly conjured a small fireball, tossing it toward Qing Li. Before he could revel in Qing Li’s potential embarrassment, a bolt of lightning struck him, gifting him a brand-new hairstyle. His fireball was deftly blocked.
The others nearby burst into laughter at Xue Qi’s misfortune.
Feng Ke—the one with the annoying voice—clapped Xue Qi on the shoulder, laughing, "Serves you right! Are you satisfied now? Tsk tsk, actually, this new hairstyle looks pretty good... ha ha!"
Xue Qi rolled his eyes at Feng Ke and brushed his hand off his shoulder.
With tearful eyes, he turned to Qing Li and pleaded, "Boss, I was wrong, I really was wrong, truly, truly wrong!"
Qing Li glanced at Xue Qi, "Where did you go wrong?"
Hearing this, Xue Qi instantly straightened up, "I shouldn’t have ambushed you! The boss’s authority is inviolable!"
Qing Li stared at Xue Qi, his finger twitching slightly as another thin bolt of lightning struck down. Now, Xue Qi wouldn’t need to dye his hair ever again...
"You went wrong by aiming your fireball at the jade pendant. Understood?" Qing Li said sternly.
This time, Xue Qi dared not utter a word...
Everyone knew their boss was admirable in every way, except when it came to the jade pendant in his hand—he guarded it more fiercely than his own life. Xue Qi, foolishly, had tried to harm the pendant; two bolts of lightning were already merciful... Xue Qi felt on the verge of tears. Ever since the apocalypse, the boss had grown stranger and stranger, constantly gazing at the jade pendant as if it were a lover...
Qing Li watched the silent Xue Qi, knowing he truly understood his mistake. Saying nothing further, Qing Li gazed at the now-dim jade pendant, pondering what new adventure his Yu’er might have encountered.
Unlike the seemingly harmonious atmosphere of City S, City B had become a living hell—a paradise for zombies.
At the heart of a vast square in City B stood a man.
He was strikingly handsome, if one overlooked his enchanting purple eyes and bluish-black fingertips. He would have been a remarkable figure!
Around him, zombies knelt and prostrated themselves, their horrific faces betraying a trembling fear... In front of these kneeling zombies stood four others, half-upright. If Qin Yu and her companions were to witness this, they would surely exclaim, "Fourth-tier zombies!"
The man surveyed the scene with irritation. What was wrong with these zombies? Why did they keep following him? He was busy! He needed to find someone—find her!
Though he desperately wanted to complain, he knew these zombies couldn’t comprehend his words. They acted purely on instinct, and the pressure he exerted on them was even more compelling than their hunger for human flesh.
He frowned at the vast hordes before him, thinking of the woman he sought. It had been so long, yet there was no news of her. The frustration gnawed at him!
Without finding her, he couldn't leave City B. That meant he couldn't fulfill his grand ambition of unifying this world! He couldn’t make those bastards kneel and beg for his forgiveness, though he’d end up killing them anyway... But the process mattered!
Ah! Damn it! Why was this place so big? Finding a woman was so arduous! That woman sure knew how to hide! Didn’t she want revenge? Wouldn’t she come looking for him? Infuriating!
With these thoughts raging, the man vanished in a flash.
The zombies sensed their master’s departure, slowly straightening and beginning their pursuit.
Meanwhile, in a small corner of a loft in City B, a white-haired woman squatted, her eyes wide and confused as she watched everything unfold... Her red eyes occasionally glimmered with light. After a long while, she lowered her head, seeming to blend into her surroundings—if one overlooked her white hair.
This apocalypse was slowly changing...
