Chapter Ninety-Seven: The Death of He Yu
He Yu gave a cold laugh, all bluster and pretense. At the same time, he directed the sharp plants beneath the ground to surge in a dense assault toward Qin Yu.
Although Qin Yu had her eyes closed, she could still sense everything happening around her, even more clearly than usual. Slowly, she guided her mental power outward to envelop the entire spatial domain. In moments, she discovered several flaws in the field.
Then she opened her eyes, looking at He Yu, whose face had turned red with anger after failing to hit her again and again. A faint smile curved her lips, and to He Yu, that smile was nothing short of naked mockery.
Ever since he had followed that woman, when had he ever suffered such humiliation? Fury rose in his heart, and his attacks became even more ferocious.
Qin Yu cast him a sidelong glance, then swayed and shot straight toward the rear of He Yu’s position. At the same time, she unleashed her water-based power, fiercely striking the greatest flaw in the field she had just discovered.
Seeing Qin Yu’s attack veer off course, He Yu burst into laughter. “Stop struggling. This space is mine to command!”
But very quickly, he could no longer laugh.
He felt that he could no longer control his domain. More accurately, his domain had vanished.
This time, he was truly afraid. Until now, no one had ever broken his field, and because everything had gone so smoothly for so many days, he had forgotten that there might be even stronger people in this world.
His face went deathly pale at once. Trembling, he said, “You, you—”
Qin Yu stepped to Zhao Meng’s side, then touched the dagger at her waist and smiled. “What about me?”
“How is that possible! How could you break my domain? You’re only a water-type ability user!” He Yu roared.
“Heh. And yet I did break it. That’s the truth,” Qin Yu said.
“I don’t believe it! I don’t believe it! I’m going to kill you! Yes—kill you!” With that, He Yu lunged at Qin Yu. Before he even reached her, Zhao Meng kicked him flying.
Zhao Meng sneered. “And you think you can kill our little Yu? Look in the mirror and weigh your own strength. A weakling like you still wants to get close to her? You’re just courting death!”
He Yu was kicked by Zhao Meng, and it felt as though his internal organs had shifted out of place. He struggled to rise, but in the end could only lie helplessly on the ground, his hand gradually drooping limp at his side.
Frowning, Zhao Meng walked over and gave He Yu a kick, muttering, “Dead? That useless? I only kicked him once. He’s the weakest of the weaklings!”
Wang Bing and the others were speechless. Auntie, can a normal person even withstand that kind of force from your kick?
Qin Yu, however, looked at the already lifeless He Yu, her gaze deep and unreadable. Zhao Meng’s kick had indeed been a little heavy, but not so heavy that it should have killed him with one blow. Could it be that Zhao Meng’s power had increased again?
Of course, Qin Yu did not know that Zhao Meng’s kick had merely been the trigger for He Yu’s death.
Before He Yu carried out this mission, that woman had already secretly drugged him. After all, she would never leave behind anyone who could threaten her. In truth, he should not have died so early, because the medicine’s effects were not supposed to take hold so quickly; that woman had wanted He Yu to eliminate Qin Yu first.
But what no one had expected was that Qin Yu’s breaking of He Yu’s domain dealt a severe blow to his mental power, and Zhao Meng’s kick then left his body in an extremely weakened state. The drug’s effects erupted prematurely, and that directly led to He Yu’s death.
Looking at He Yu, who was dead beyond doubt, Qin Yu said to the muttering Zhao Meng, “All right, Xiao Meng. He’s dead already. Kicking him again won’t help. Don’t waste your strength.”
Zhao Meng gave the corpse one final hard kick, then ran over to Qin Yu and asked, “Little Yu, who wanted to kill you?”
Qin Yu shook her head. “Who knows? Maybe I’m just too beautiful, and someone got jealous?”
Zhao Meng rolled her eyes. “Little Yu! At a time like this, you still have the heart to joke? Do you know you nearly lost your life? And most important of all, you even refused to let us help. You have no idea how worried we were when we saw those things almost pierce you!”
“All right, all right, I know. I won’t do it again next time. This time I just wanted to verify something. Besides, it looks like two groups of people have targeted me now,” Qin Yu said with a sigh.
“Little Yu, think carefully. Have you offended anyone?” Zhao Meng asked, looking at Qin Yu with great seriousness.
Qin Yu fell into thought for a moment. Finding no answer, she shook her head and rubbed her brow. “Maybe someone is just jealous of me.”
At this, Zhao Meng was truly speechless.
As for Qin Yu, she glanced at He Yu’s corpse with a dark, probing look. She was certain she had not offended anyone, so exactly who was so intent on seeing her dead?
What Qin Yu did not expect, however, was that her offhand joke had guessed the truth.
He Yu had been sent by that woman, Feng Fei. Ever since she had been abducted the last time, that man had humiliated her in every way possible. But she was unwilling to submit. She refused to bow beneath them. So with her powers and her natural beauty, she quickly latched onto someone high up in the military.
Although that man was an old fossil, and although she had endured every manner of humiliation beneath him in bed, it did not matter. She had become someone above others. And she would make those who had once looked down on her pay the price.
First among them was Qin Yu. Clearly she was the rarer spatial ability user, and clearly she was far more beautiful than that Qin Yu, yet she had the damned good fortune to thrive.
Back then, Qin Yu had clearly had the chance to save her, but instead she had abandoned her and her mother. Yes, her mother had also been killed by that woman. If not for her, how could her mother have died? And now she herself had been made neither human nor ghost!
It was all Qin Yu. All Qin Yu!
Each time she was humiliated, her hatred for Qin Yu deepened by another layer. She secretly vowed that she would make Qin Yu die a terrible death. Even if Qin Yu died, she would not let her rest in peace.
Thus, she came to know He Yu, and by virtue of the authority of the man she served, she began her own journey of “revenge.”
She learned that Qin Yu was outside carrying out a mission, so she sent He Yu to intercept her. He had to kill her. Of course, she did not trust He Yu, so she secretly drugged him as well. As long as he brought back Qin Yu’s corpse, she would make sure he died too.
Unfortunately, heaven’s designs were not man’s. All of it turned to foam.
And when Feng Fei later saw that Qin Yu was still perfectly safe and standing beside the man she admired, she was nearly driven mad with rage.
In any case, Qin Yu and the others were thinking of the base not far away and feared unnecessary complications, so they hurriedly tidied up and quickly set off again. As for He Yu’s corpse, Qin Yu felt no mercy toward anyone who wanted her dead. Let the earth swallow the body whole.
The sun gradually sank below the horizon, and another night of darkness was about to descend. In the darkness, what would be waiting for Qin Yu?
