Song Qingyu stood in front of Pei Jingmo, her gaze cold as she said to Chu Xingzhi, “I brought him here. Grandma wants to see him.”

“What?” Chu Xingzhi was puzzled why the old lady wanted Pei Jingmo and felt quite displeased.

Song Qingyu ignored him and took Pei Jingmo’s hand, walking into the hospital room.

The old lady had woken up, and her spirits were much better than in the morning.

Remembering Pei Jingmo’s words about not letting the elderly worry and staying cheerful, Song Qingyu smiled and said to the old lady, “Grandma, Jingmo and I brought dumplings.”

Pei Jingmo looked at the elderly woman on the bed and politely greeted her, “Grandma.”

The old lady’s eyes lingered on Pei Jingmo’s face for a while before she slowly asked, “What did you say your name was?”

Pei Jingmo replied gently, “My surname is Pei.”

“Pei, the Pei of ‘Feiyi’?”

“Yes.”

The old lady continued to look at him, and Song Qingyu grew a bit curious. “Grandma, is something wrong?”

The old lady smiled and shook her head, “You are indeed quite handsome.”

Hearing his grandmother praise his rival’s looks, Chu Xingzhi’s face darkened further.

Noticing Chu Xingzhi’s mood, the old lady said to him, “Xingzhi, go get my medicine.”

Chu Xingzhi knew she wanted to distract him. Though unwilling, he didn’t want to see Pei Jingmo either, so he left begrudgingly.

“Grandma, we made your favorite fennel dumplings.”

Song Qingyu tried to serve the dumplings, but Pei Jingmo told her to sit down, “You rest a bit; I’ll do it.”

“I’m fine. I want to feed Grandma.”

“You hurt your hand; listen to me.”

The old lady observed their interaction carefully.

Pei Jingmo opened the insulated box, picked up a dumpling, and brought it to the old lady’s lips. “Grandma, try it and see how it tastes.”

After taking a bite, the old lady smiled and nodded, “Delicious. Our Xiaoyu can even make dumplings now.”

Seeing her grandmother happy, Song Qingyu felt joyful too.

“It was Jingmo who made them. He’s really good at cooking.”

“Is that so?” The old lady looked at Pei Jingmo with surprise. “I really didn’t expect that.”

“I hadn’t noticed before either, but he’s really skilled. He can make anything.”

The old lady saw the expression on Song Qingyu’s face and the way she spoke about Pei Jingmo and realized her grandson had no chance at all.

“Is Jingmo the one who usually cooks at home?”

Song Qingyu nodded, “He’s already fattened me up. Grandma, if you don’t mind, once you’re better, come stay with us for a few days. Jingmo will fatten you up too.”

The old lady laughed so heartily she couldn’t stop, “Alright~”

Hearing the laughter and chatter from the hospital room, Chu Xingzhi’s anger and frustration built up, his fists clenched tightly.

The old lady ate two dumplings but couldn’t eat anymore.

“Grandma, have one more?”

“No more,” she waved her hand and looked at Pei Jingmo. “Jingmo, come here.”

Pei Jingmo approached, and the old lady took both his and Song Qingyu’s hands, clasping them together. “Jingmo, this is the first time I’ve met you, and I don’t know you well, but since Xiaoyu has chosen you, I trust you too. I’m entrusting Xiaoyu to you.”

Song Qingyu’s eyes reddened again.

Pei Jingmo squeezed her hand tightly and solemnly said to the old lady, “Grandma, rest assured, I will take good care of her.”

“Good... good...” The old lady repeated the word several times, then looked at Song Qingyu. “Xiaoyu, I want to speak with Jingmo alone.”

Song Qingyu was a little surprised but obediently nodded. “Alright, I’ll go ask the doctor something.”

As she left the room, she glanced at Pei Jingmo, who gave her a reassuring look.

Once the door closed, the old lady finally spoke. “How is your grandmother?”

Pei Jingmo was momentarily stunned but quickly understood that the moment he entered, the old lady had recognized him.

The old lady smiled and sighed. “You don’t look like your parents, but you resemble your grandmother very much.”

Since she was seen through, Pei Jingmo stopped pretending. “She’s very healthy.”

“That’s good. Come to think of it, I owe her a favor.”

After Song Qingyu and Chu Xingzhi broke up, to ease the tension between them, Wu Wanqing had specifically asked Gu Yuandong’s grandmother for two invitations to attend the Prince’s welcoming banquet.

No one had expected Xiaoyu’s husband to be the prince.

“Looking at it this way, Xingzhi losing to you makes sense.”

“No—”

Pei Jingmo smiled slightly. “I should thank him. If he hadn’t taken Xiaoyu for granted, I wouldn’t have gotten her so quickly.”

“But you deceived Xiaoyu.”

The old lady’s expression suddenly grew serious. “Your father probably doesn’t approve of your relationship, right?”

“No one will stop me from being with Xiaoyu.”

His gaze was fierce, a completely different aura from when he was feeding the old lady dumplings.

For a moment, the old lady clearly knew that no matter what happened in the future, this man would never let go of Xiaoyu.

“Even if you can convince your father, Xiaoyu hates deception most of all. How will you handle that in the future?”

“I will make her fall in love with me. I will make her unable to live without me.”

A simple sentence that revealed a strong possessiveness.

The old lady was secretly alarmed. She saw in this young man an unrelenting determination.

He was truly determined to have Xiaoyu.

The old lady sighed. Maybe Xiaoyu herself didn’t realize it, but she could see Xiaoyu’s dependence and feelings for him.

“I have only one wish: that Xiaoyu can be happy and joyful.”

“Grandma, rest assured, I will make her the happiest woman in the world.”

Outside the hospital room.

Chu Xingzhi looked at Song Qingyu with dissatisfaction. “He’s just a bricklayer. What’s there to talk about between Grandma and him?”

Song Qingyu frowned. “Bricklayer is just his profession. Without workers like him, how could you get those projects done smoothly?”

Chu Xingzhi was even more irritated. “I say one word against him and you defend him. When others bully me, why don’t you say a word?”

“He’s my husband!”

“I... you...” Chu Xingzhi was so angry he nearly burst a blood vessel.

The hospital room door opened, and Pei Jingmo walked out.

Chu Xingzhi looked at him coldly, snorted, and then went back inside.

Song Qingyu grabbed his arm and whispered, “He’s going through menopause. Don’t mind him. What did Grandma tell you?”

Pei Jingmo held her hand and warmed it gently. “She told me to love you well and take good care of you.”

Song Qingyu had guessed as much. Knowing Grandma was still thinking about her even while ill, Song Qingyu felt a bitter mix of emotions.

“Jingmo, I want to stay here with Grandma tonight. You should go home by yourself.”

Pei Jingmo frowned, about to speak when his phone suddenly rang.

Seeing it was the old man calling, and guessing it might be about missing the business summit, he nodded at Song Qingyu. “I’ll come pick you up later.”

“Don’t bother. I’ll go home on my own tomorrow.”

“...Alright.”

Song Qingyu wanted to stay and keep watch by Grandma’s side, much to Chu Xingzhi’s delight.

He didn’t go to the office and brought his laptop to the hospital to work, keeping vigil with Song Qingyu.

But their joy was short-lived. The old lady vomited the dumplings she had eaten.

The two of them scrambled to clean up, and the doctor hung an IV for the old lady.

Chu Xingzhi angrily said, “With Grandma’s condition, how could she eat dumplings? I think that Pei Jingmo meant to harm her.”

Song Qingyu felt guilty and distressed. Hearing Chu Xingzhi scold Pei Jingmo, she frowned and said, “The dumplings were from me. If you want to scold someone, scold me. Don’t drag innocent people into this.”
