Volume One, Chapter 123: Sensitive

Song Qingyu thought about it from Pei Jingmo’s perspective.
Even though she would never fall in love with him and would divorce him six months later, he had still cooked dinner for her.
She was suddenly incredibly grateful that she had overheard what Pei Jingmo said to Hong Xiaohua—and equally grateful that she had finally understood her own feelings.
“You can’t eat any of this anymore. Wait here. I’ll make something else.”
“Don’t bother.”
Song Qingyu caught hold of Pei Jingmo’s arm. “Let’s just order takeout.”
“Be good. It’ll be ready soon.”
Takeout was bad for her health, and whenever Pei Jingmo was home, he never let Song Qingyu eat it.
Fortunately, there were ingredients in the house. Pei Jingmo quickly stir-fried two dishes and cooked two bowls of noodles.
Song Qingyu had not eaten anything since yesterday afternoon, and she was indeed hungry.
When Fu Linhan had been in the car with them, the atmosphere had not felt so awkward. Now that only the two of them remained, having confessed their feelings to each other, they were instead somewhat at a loss.
Song Qingyu had a great deal on her mind. After dinner, while Pei Jingmo was cleaning up, she hurried back to her room.
In her view, now that she knew she loved Pei Jingmo and that he loved her too, there were many things a married couple ought to do.
But she had never experienced anything like that before. What if Pei Jingmo found the experience disappointing?
Wait—
Song Qingyu returned to the living room and quietly opened the liquor cabinet. From inside, she took out the bottle of red wine Xie Liuzheng had brought the last time she visited.
She carried it back to her room, poured herself a glass, and drank it. Then she had a second. When she saw that only a little remained at the bottom of the bottle, she simply finished that as well.
When Pei Jingmo emerged from the kitchen after cleaning up, he saw Song Qingyu standing at the doorway, clutching his pillow. Her cheeks were flushed, and she gazed at him with hazy eyes.
She was obviously drunk.
“Tonight…”
She hiccupped. “Can we sleep together?”
His dark eyes suddenly narrowed.
The girl before him was like an innocent little rabbit who knew nothing of the world—pure and unsullied—yet she was inviting a big bad wolf to sleep beside her.
Under such overwhelming temptation, Pei Jingmo clenched his fists tightly, barely managing to restrain himself from turning into a ravenous wolf and pouncing on her.
When Pei Jingmo remained silent, Song Qingyu hugged his pillow even more tightly. “We’re a real married couple now. If you still sleep in a separate room from me, people will think our relationship is bad. Or they’ll say that you… that you can’t perform!”
It was the first time anyone had ever told Pei Jingmo that he was incapable. He laughed in spite of himself, both amused and exasperated.
“Fine. We’ll sleep together.”
Song Qingyu smiled happily and staggered toward the bedroom with the pillow in her arms. Unfortunately, after drinking an entire bottle of red wine, her legs suddenly gave way, and she nearly fell.
Pei Jingmo rushed over, scooped her up, and carefully placed her on the bed.

Song Qingyu set his pillow beside hers and gently patted it as though soothing a child. “Come up.”
Pei Jingmo took off his shoes and got into bed. Song Qingyu pulled a document from the drawer.
She wanted to take it out, but her hands refused to obey her.
“Do you want me to take out what’s inside?”
“Mhm.”
Pei Jingmo helped her remove the papers. It was the contract they had signed before.
The moment he saw it, his heart tightened for no apparent reason. Why had she brought it out?
The next second, Song Qingyu tore the contract in half and gave Pei Jingmo a foolish, cheerful smile. “We won’t need this anymore.”
Pei Jingmo had given Song Qingyu enough of a sense of security that even in her drunken state, she wanted to give him the same reassurance.
His heart was pounding, and warmth filled his chest. “Won’t you regret tearing it up?”
“No.” Song Qingyu smiled at him. “I love you, so I don’t regret it.”
Once Song Qingyu had determined her feelings, she was never stingy about expressing them.
Pei Jingmo loved her, and she wanted him to know that she loved him too.
His heart filled with joy and excitement. He took out another document and coaxed her gently. “Then sign this.”
“Hm? What is it?”
Song Qingyu stared at the dense lines of writing on the document. Every character seemed to be floating before her eyes.
“Didn’t you say you love me? This is a guarantee that no matter what happens in the future, you can never leave me.”
“Okay~”
Song Qingyu took the pen and tried to sign, but she was far too drunk to write a single legible word.
Pei Jingmo guided her hand and signed the document for her.
The instant he finished, Song Qingyu suddenly threw herself at him. Afraid she would fall, Pei Jingmo wrapped his strong arms around her slender waist.
Before he could react, Song Qingyu held his face in her hands and placed a tender kiss upon his eyelids.
The kiss was like a spring breeze brushing across his face, or like tiny currents of electricity coursing through his entire body. His emotions surged, and desire was slowly awakened within him by her teasing touch.
After that fleeting kiss, she kissed the bridge of his high, straight nose, then his lips, dry and peeling from the worry and agitation he had been suffering—
Finally, she lowered her head and kissed his Adam’s apple.
A man’s Adam’s apple was one of his most vulnerable and sensitive places. It felt as though his very life lay between her teeth.
With a single fierce bite, she could take his life.
The hand clasped around her waist tightened until the veins stood out. Pei Jingmo tilted his head back and let her kiss him, unwilling to interrupt her enthusiasm.
However, Song Qingyu stopped.

Her face was unnaturally flushed, and she looked utterly dazed. “What comes next?”
“What?”
His voice, steeped in desire, was hoarse and seductive. The sound alone made Song Qingyu’s entire body tingle.
Only then did Pei Jingmo realize what she meant by “what comes next.”
The sequence of kisses she had just given him was exactly what he had described to her when he confessed his feelings:
“I want to kiss you every day—your eyes, your nose, your lips, and even your whole body.”
“I remember now.”
Song Qingyu’s eyes lit up. She reached for the buttons on Pei Jingmo’s clothes, but after struggling with them for a long while, she still could not undo them. Exhausted, she leaned into the crook of his neck. “Can you undo them for me?”
When her cheek brushed against his burning forehead, Pei Jingmo’s expression changed. He abruptly pushed her away and reached out to touch her forehead.
“Qingqing, do you know that you have a fever?”
“I don’t know… My head feels so dizzy…”
Pei Jingmo had thought her flushed face was merely the result of drunkenness and being dizzy with delight after her unexpected kisses. He had not realized at once that she had a fever.
He cursed under his breath. Every trace of romantic desire vanished.
Because she had been drinking, he did not dare give Song Qingyu any medicine. He made a phone call instead.
“Yinian, have your family doctor come to my place. Qingqing has a fever, but she’s also drunk an entire bottle of red wine.”
The doctor arrived quickly. He prescribed some acetaminophen and cooling patches, then instructed Pei Jingmo to soak Song Qingyu’s feet in warm water and wipe down her body to lower her temperature physically.
Bai Yinian had probably given the doctor strict instructions beforehand, because the doctor was extremely respectful and cautious when he saw Pei Jingmo.
He was terrified of accidentally angering the heir apparent.
But he never could have imagined that the heir apparent would wash a girl’s feet in this tiny house.
What kind of modern-day ghost story was this?
After most of the night had passed in a flurry of activity, Song Qingyu’s fever finally began to subside little by little.
Pei Jingmo sat at the head of the bed, watching her sleeping face. He lightly brushed a finger along the bridge of her nose.
“You really are determined to be the death of me.”
The following day.
When Song Qingyu woke naturally, she discovered that she was in Pei Jingmo’s arms.
He had wrapped his entire body around her, his chin resting against her forehead, as though afraid she might run away.
She had no strength in her body; her limbs were weak and sore. Then she noticed that they were both still wearing pajamas, and her eyes widened in disbelief.
Had she and Pei Jingmo consummated their marriage last night?
She felt a little regretful. If she had known, she would not have drunk so much. Apart from remembering that she had hugged Pei Jingmo’s pillow and insisted that he sleep with her, she remembered nothing else.
Had her first time really passed in such a muddled, confused haze?
