Chapter 032: Sixth Rank
“What?”
“Damn!”
“Who did this?”
Kong Dabao, Feng Tiejian, and the others cried out in shock.
Su Jingxing was also taken aback.
The Xiaodao Society had just been wiped out at noon, and now a Black Tiger Gang branch had been annihilated at night?
Could the perpetrator be the same group?
If so, their target must be the Black Tiger Gang!
The Xiaodao Society’s destruction was nothing more than collateral damage from the Black Tiger Gang’s troubles.
“Who did it? Captain, do we know who did it?”
“Incredible—someone actually dared to mess with the Black Tiger Gang.”
“Please, the Black Tiger Gang isn’t invincible. Not just in the whole city—even in the West District, the Feiyun Sect has always been at odds with them.”
“Do you think this could be the work of the Feiyun Sect?”
…
After the initial shock, Kong Dabao, Feng Tiejian, and the rest grew excited and launched into a heated discussion.
Gang wars and even total annihilation were events the average citizen delighted in; few were truly afraid.
All the more so for people like Kong Dabao, Feng Tiejian, and Gu Bo, all from the crematorium’s corpse collection team.
After seeing so many bodies, the dead meant as little to them as slaughtered pigs.
Instead of fear or numbness, their curiosity about the killer was piqued.
Questioning Gu Bo was little more than a reflex.
Gu Bo himself had only just received the call to bring his team for corpse collection.
He knew nothing about the scene or the mastermind.
Only Su Jingxing felt a strange stirring in his heart.
Duan Feihong!
Could that enigmatic Duan Feihong be involved again?
With curiosity and doubt swirling within, the group made their way straight to the Black Tiger Gang’s branch where the incident had occurred.
Fortune Restaurant!
This establishment stood in the heart of the bustling city.
Even though it was the dead of night, the street on which the restaurant stood was ablaze with lights on both sides, and there were still many pedestrians.
With the incident at Fortune Restaurant, half the street was cordoned off.
Crowds gathered at both ends of the barrier, lively and noisy, the click of phone cameras ringing out from time to time.
Security officers tried in vain to disperse the throng.
It was no use; this was simply too sensational.
A Black Tiger Gang branch had been wiped out, right in the city center.
There was no commotion during the attack, but afterward, blood flowed in rivers, streaming out onto the street.
The mere thought of such an event was astonishing—how much more so when it actually happened!
People who stayed up so late were rarely the law-abiding sort. Confronted with a spectacle like this, their excitement was palpable. Add in the effects of alcohol, and the crowd’s mood grew ever more feverish.
By the time Su Jingxing and his team arrived in the corpse transport van at the edge of the cordon, the crowd was on the verge of clashing with the security team.
Thankfully, a gunshot rang out, restoring order just in time.
The agitated crowd finally backed off, opening a path.
The corpse van made it through, past the cordon, and stopped in front of Fortune Restaurant.
As soon as Su Jingxing, Kong Dabao, Feng Tiejian, and the others got out, they were hit by the heavy stench of blood.
Looking up, they saw the restaurant’s entrance slick with crimson.
A headless corpse lay across the threshold.
Inside the door, broken and mangled bodies were strewn across the floor.
“How… how many people died here?”
Feng Tiejian swallowed audibly, put on his mask, and cried out in alarm.
“No fewer than this afternoon,” his partner replied gruffly.
“The bodies from the Xiaodao Society’s headquarters haven’t even started burning yet, and here we’ve got another hundred or so. There won’t be space in the morgue at this rate, tsk!” Kong Dabao shook his head in amazement.
“All right, enough chatter, let’s get to work,” Gu Bo snapped, ordering everyone to pair up and begin the grisly task of moving the bodies.
[Corpse detected. Pick up?]
“Yes!”
[Corpse detected. Pick up?]
“Yes!”
…
Su Jingxing and Kong Dabao worked together, carrying corpses while Su Jingxing discreetly collected cards.
They started in the first-floor hall, then moved to the kitchen, the second floor, the third floor…
All the way up, body after body was carried out and loaded into the van.
Thanks to his expanded collection radius, Su Jingxing barely missed a single corpse.
Fortunately, the cards were thin and stacked discreetly.
On scene, Su Jingxing also saw Commander Qi Zhaocheng from the Martial Affairs Bureau.
There was Director Wu Shouhan from the crematorium, and the major power players of the West District who had been at the Xiaodao Society’s headquarters that afternoon.
These people had all rushed here after hearing the news, faces grave in the middle of the night.
All except Huang Boyi!
The Black Tiger Gang branch leader whom Su Jingxing had met and even fought that afternoon was now nothing but a cold corpse, his head and half his torso sheared away, lying lifeless and unavenged in the stairwell between the second and third floors.
No one would have expected that the branch to be destroyed tonight was the very one under Huang Boyi’s control.
When Su Jingxing saw his body, he couldn’t help but offer a silent tribute.
Those who mixed with gangs always knew their day might come, but to die so gruesomely was rare indeed.
After several months at the crematorium and with Gu Bo’s patient instruction, Su Jingxing could now identify most wounds on corpses.
They were identical!
The bodies at Fortune Restaurant bore wounds exactly like those seen at the Xiaodao Society’s headquarters that afternoon.
It was the work of the same group!
Wu Shouhan, Qi Zhaocheng, and the others had noticed this as well.
But at the moment, they had no time for other matters, gathered together around a body, each face darker than the last.
Su Jingxing quietly used the “Sound to the Ear” secret technique, listening in on the entire building, catching their conversation.
“Commander Qi, report this. This is beyond your jurisdiction.”
“I already have. Chief Sun is on his way.”
“What about Ouyang, the gang leader? Has anyone notified him?”
“I’ve checked. He’s still in seclusion.”
“Ha! At a time like this, still in seclusion? Is he waiting for the Black Tiger Gang to be wiped out before he comes out?”
“You can’t really blame him. Who would have thought even Ouyang Feihu would be killed?”
“Indeed, Ouyang Feihu was a sixth-grade martial artist, and even he wasn’t a match for the killer!”
Sixth grade?
Ouyang Feihu?
Su Jingxing, in the midst of hauling corpses, felt his heart jolt and nearly missed a step.
If he heard correctly, Ouyang Feihu was the Black Tiger Gang’s vice leader!
The leader, Ouyang Qinhu, was his older brother.
If even a sixth-grade martial artist had been slain, then “Duan Feihong’s” group was truly formidable.
At the very least, they must have had someone of the sixth grade themselves.
Otherwise, Ouyang Feihu would never have been killed.
Still, more than the level of the killer, Su Jingxing was eager to see what card he might extract from Ouyang Feihu’s corpse.
A real sixth-grade martial artist—what kind of reward would that yield?
His curiosity burned. After carrying out one more corpse, Su Jingxing deliberately moved ahead of the others, quickly ascending to the fourth floor where Qi Zhaocheng, Wu Shouhan, and the rest were gathered.
[Corpse detected. Pick up?]
“Yes!”
[Corpse detected. Pick up?]
“Yes!”
…
The fourth floor was heavily damaged, the floor pitted and uneven, the walls crisscrossed with cracks.
Many bodies lay scattered, all horribly mangled.
As Su Jingxing approached a large hole—
[Barbarian corpse detected. Pick up?]
Barbarian?
There were barbarians here!?
