Chapter 043: [A New Card]
Memory Card!
Yet another new type of card.
As the name suggests, the Memory Card contains the memories of the deceased, recorded from their lifetime. The duration varies randomly—sometimes years, sometimes only months, and occasionally, it records an entire life.
Every experience from childhood to adulthood is preserved within the Memory Card. The card Su Jingxing picked up detailed ten years of Fan Chungang's memories before his death.
The instant the card was activated, scenes from Fan Chungang’s last decade unfolded in Su Jingxing’s mind like a film. He could clearly "see" everything Fan Chungang had done during those years, including matters related to Chen Xiaodao and the Giant Blade.
The memory revealed that the Giant Blade wasn’t snatched by Chen Xiaodao from Fan Chungang, but was exchanged between the two. Chen Xiaodao possessed a martial art—the Three Element Blade Technique—which he traded for Fan Chungang’s Giant Blade.
Both the Giant Blade and the Three Element Blade Technique had actually been taken by Chen Xiaodao and Fan Chungang from another person. It was a dark and shadowy memory.
Fan Chungang, Chen Xiaodao, and their close brother, their elder, had learned by chance from a group of tomb robbers about the resting place of a powerful martial artist. Tombs from ancient times often held valuable burial items. After all, the demonic insects from beyond the stars had only descended upon Earth for eighty-some years; graves older than a century had yet to be disturbed, as corpses over a hundred years old had decayed to mere bone fragments, unattractive even to corpse maggots. Thus, these ancient tombs remained buried, their secrets unknown until discovered.
Upon hearing this, Chen Xiaodao, Fan Chungang, and their elder killed the tomb robbers and went to the grave themselves, searching for burial treasures. Their efforts were soon rewarded—they found many valuable items. The most precious were the Giant Blade and the Three Element Blade Technique.
Because of these two martial arts, Chen Xiaodao and Fan Chungang ambushed their elder from behind. Afterwards, they divided the spoils between them, each taking one martial art.
Upon obtaining the martial arts, they realized that both the Giant Blade and the Three Element Blade Technique required specific conditions to practice. The Giant Blade, unsurprisingly, demanded immense strength in its wielder.
The Three Element Blade Technique was even more peculiar: it required the practitioner to control three blades simultaneously—not two in one hand, but one in each hand, implying the need for three hands!
A cruel joke indeed. While some people have three hands, such cases are rare deformities, not normal humans. In ancient times, such children were considered ominous and drowned at birth; in modern times, surgical removal suffices. True three-handed adults simply do not exist.
Thus, Fan Chungang, who initially got the Giant Blade, was tricked by Chen Xiaodao into swapping for the Three Element Blade Technique, leading to a fierce quarrel and the severing of their relationship. Though the Giant Blade was difficult to master and only had its first volume, it could still be adapted to projectile techniques, such as throwing knives. The Three Element Blade Technique, however, was utterly useless—something to be admired but never attained. Fan Chungang could hardly accept this.
He wanted to kill Chen Xiaodao, but Chen Xiaodao was equally strong, and soon gained the support of the Black Tiger Gang as backing. Fan Chungang had no choice but to endure, until he heard news of Chen Xiaodao’s death, at which point he laughed with delight.
Later, Fan Chungang specifically visited Chen Xiaodao’s home, hoping to find the Giant Blade, but discovered nothing. Unexpectedly, after venturing into the mountains and witnessing Su Jingxing’s flying knife technique, he recognized traces of the Giant Blade and pursued him for answers.
This episode stood out in Fan Chungang’s ten-year memory. The rest—murder, arson, consorting with women, robbery, plotting deaths—were routine business for him.
As a trusted subordinate of Wan Rong, Fan Chungang also knew most of Wan Rong’s secrets. These secrets proved invaluable to Su Jingxing.
Additionally, Fan Chungang had hidden a stash of illicit money—just over three million Dayu coins—which he concealed in secret. No one else knew of it, and now it belonged to Su Jingxing.
Coincidentally, Su Jingxing had used up three specially crafted throwing knives in killing Fan Chungang and was planning to buy replacements. Taken together, the Memory Card’s value rivaled that of other cards.
The only drawback was that Fan Chungang’s memories of the Three Element Blade Technique were only partial. In fact, he had merely glanced at the beginning, then locked it away in a safe, never looking at it again.
“Wait, hold on!”
Suddenly, Su Jingxing was startled by a thought, his eyes shining. “That’s right! Fan Chungang tossed the Three Element Blade Technique into his safe and forgot about it—doesn’t that mean, if I go to his home and retrieve or open the safe, I can obtain the Three Element Blade Technique?”
Realization dawned and Su Jingxing’s face lit up with joy.
Unlike Chen Xiaodao, whose possessions had long since been taken after his death, Fan Chungang had died by Su Jingxing’s hand, and so far, nobody else knew. If he acted quickly, he could discreetly visit Fan Chungang’s residence, open the safe unnoticed, and easily obtain the Three Element Blade Technique.
To be buried alongside the Giant Blade, the Three Element Blade Technique must be of equal value. Just because Fan Chungang and Chen Xiaodao couldn’t master it didn’t mean Su Jingxing couldn’t!
With this thought, Su Jingxing composed himself, opened the bottle containing corpse-dissolving liquid, and reduced Fan Chungang’s body to a pool of fluid. Then, he hurried to the place where the “Muyan Flower” grew.
It was a secluded valley, its entrance a sheer cliff. Only by following the river below the cliff into an underground stream could one reach the valley.
The informant knew the location so well because he had been knocked off the cliff, survived by luck, and was carried by the water through the valley, then emerged through another underground river, barely escaping death.
During his journey, he saw several things growing in the valley, including the Muyan Flower.
As for why he posted this experience online, Su Jingxing wasn’t sure—perhaps to boast, perhaps to lure others, perhaps out of revenge.
Regardless, it had benefited Su Jingxing.
He traveled swiftly and arrived at the mountain before nightfall. The dark made movement difficult, so he spent the night on the mountain, waiting by the cliff.
He found a large tree to settle in, sat on its thick branch, and took a Vitality Pill to restore his strength and keep his mind alert. He ate some food to fill his stomach, then began cultivating his inner energy to stimulate his eye acupoints, developing his night vision.
As he continued, Su Jingxing suddenly paused, halting the secret technique.
Someone was watching him!
