Chapter 052: Exhilarating! (Please Add to Favorites)
Barbarian soldiers!
From the conversation among Duan Feihong and his two companions, they had, at the very first moment trouble broke out, transferred the remaining barbarians from the underground base at the University of Science and Technology to a factory.
Su Jingxing managed to follow them and locate this factory.
He did so not only to obtain the address, so that he could pass the information to the Martial Suppression Bureau and foil the schemes of Duan Feihong’s faction—thus preventing unnecessary casualties among innocents during the crackdown on the underground gangs—but also to collect Martial Arts Cards!
Though Su Jingxing was prepared to wait patiently, if he could save a great deal of time, wouldn’t that be even better?
The cards collected from barbarian corpses were not always Martial Arts Cards. However, the odds of obtaining one were quite high.
As long as there was a chance, Su Jingxing was willing to try.
Therefore—
All the way, Su Jingxing used the “Resonant Hearing” technique to keep Duan Feihong and his companions under surveillance from a distance of a hundred meters, following them as they left the residential area and boarded a bus.
Indeed, Duan Feihong and his associates neither drove themselves nor called a taxi; instead, they took public transportation to the factory.
This made things much easier for Su Jingxing.
Since Duan Feihong’s group took the bus, Su Jingxing simply hailed a taxi and followed at a measured pace.
When they alighted and walked into a small country road on the outskirts, Su Jingxing, after driving some distance ahead, paid his fare and doubled back on foot.
Standing at the entrance to the path, he gazed at several factories nestled at the foot of the distant hills.
After a moment’s thought, Su Jingxing quickly retraced his steps and entered a cybercafé in the suburbs, renting a private room. Using his hacking skills, he infiltrated the corporate networks of the companies operating those factories at the mountain’s base.
To avoid alerting anyone, Su Jingxing used the process of elimination.
He hacked into the companies one by one, searching for confidential information.
Given the advanced technology at Duan Feihong’s disposal, they would certainly rely on computers; even if critical data was kept on paper, there would still be traces—some peripheral details—left in their digital systems.
It was these traces Su Jingxing sought!
And indeed, after eliminating just two factories, he found himself within the internal network of Duan Feihong’s faction.
There wasn’t much crucial information available on the intranet, but the factory was riddled with surveillance cameras!
The cameras were installed to prevent accidents and maintain security.
But little did Duan Feihong and his associates imagine that a skilled hacker would set his sights on their factory, and that, one by one, every corner of the facility would fall under his watchful gaze, thanks to the cameras.
Among the footage was a warehouse under heavy guard.
Inside this warehouse stood numerous burly barbarians.
Found them!
With the aid of the cameras, Su Jingxing watched on his screen as one barbarian after another sat motionless, eyes closed, and a smile of delight spread across his face.
At a glance, there were nearly fifty barbarians hidden in the warehouse.
With so many barbarians, surely he could collect at least one Martial Arts Card?
Rubbing his hands together, Su Jingxing pondered how to infiltrate the factory, kill the barbarians, and collect the cards.
Thanks to the last barbarian, he had obtained an Invisibility Card.
With its power, getting into the factory and reaching the warehouse door would be no problem.
The real challenge lay in the guards outside the warehouse and, once inside, in killing the barbarians without raising the alarm.
Hmm, perhaps he could use video overlay?
If he first recorded the intact, uneventful security footage and set a timer, then, when he reached the warehouse door, overlaid the real-time feed with the pre-recorded footage, those monitoring the cameras inside the factory would see nothing amiss.
This plan seemed feasible!
With this in mind, Su Jingxing went over the details in his head, then set to work, his fingers flying over the keyboard.
Once all was ready, he left the cybercafé and made straight for the hillside behind the factory.
Entering from the back would save him quite a bit of distance compared to the main path.
Upon reaching the rear of the hill, Su Jingxing checked the time, took out his Invisibility Card, and activated it, feeling a strange energy envelop his entire body.
He snapped a selfie with his phone and confirmed that he was indeed invisible.
Striding confidently through the factory corridors, he soon reached the warehouse door.
He activated the “Resonant Hearing” secret technique, listening intently to his surroundings to ensure no one was approaching.
Timing it perfectly, Su Jingxing sprang into action, employing the “Eight Steps Ascending Dragon” technique. In a few quick flashes, he dispatched the armed guards who had no chance to react.
He swiftly opened the warehouse door and slipped inside.
Again, using the “Eight Steps Ascending Dragon,” he channeled his inner strength to his palms, weaving between the barbarians and striking each one in the chest.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
His inner energy penetrated their bodies, shattering the hearts of the slumbering barbarians, killing them instantly.
“A barbarian corpse detected. Collect?”
“Yes!”
“A barbarian corpse detected. Collect?”
“Yes!”
…
Suppressing his excitement, Su Jingxing moved rapidly from one barbarian to the next, answering each prompt without hesitation.
How exhilarating!
Barbarian corpses, which before could only be found by luck, now appeared one after another, allowing him to collect cards at will.
Whether or not they were Martial Arts Cards could be dealt with later.
Fifty—
No, being there in person, Su Jingxing confirmed that there were forty-seven barbarians in the warehouse.
Including the three already dead, the total number of this batch was fifty.
Fifty corpses, and not one would escape Su Jingxing.
Ha ha—
…
While Su Jingxing was busy, elated by his task, in the factory’s surveillance room—
“Hey, something doesn’t seem right.”
A man stared at the two camera feeds from inside and outside the warehouse, hesitating.
“What’s wrong?” asked his companion, glancing at the monitors with a puzzled look. “Nothing’s out of the ordinary, is it? Hasn’t it always been like this?”
“Uh…” The man frowned, rubbing his chin in thought. “I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something just feels off.”
“You’re overthinking it,” his companion said with a laugh. “Those barbarians have been like that since they were brought in. Unless someone wakes them, they won’t do anything. Don’t tell me you think one of them woke up on his own just now?”
“No,” the man shook his head, pondering. “It’s not the barbarians. It’s the footage. The warehouse camera feeds, inside and out, haven’t changed in a while.”
“That’s perfectly normal,” the companion replied dismissively with a wave. “When Professor Niu and the others aren’t using the barbarians, what could possibly change inside the warehouse?”
“As for outside, after those guards were caught napping and got severely punished last time, none of them would dare slack off again.”
The man fell silent.
After a long pause, he murmured, “I still think something’s wrong.”
“Fine, you win. I’ll call them and check,” his companion said, picking up a headset. As he operated the radio, he chuckled, “Now you can relax.”
The man waited in silence for a reply.
“Old Zhao, Old Zhao, do you copy? Please respond,” his companion called.
But after waiting some time, there was no response.
“Old Zhao, Old Zhao, do you copy?” he called again.
Still, there was nothing.
He called three times in all, but received no answer.
Now, at last, the two men’s faces changed dramatically.
Something had gone wrong!
