Chapter 099 The Power of the New White Eye
Naruto had originally been intent on tracking Kakuzu to figure out why Hinata had been targeted, but to his surprise, before long Hinata herself told him the reason.
“Your eyes? When that man attacked you, he mentioned your eyes too?” Naruto asked in astonishment, his eyes wide with disbelief.
Hinata gave a small nod. “Yes. At first I didn’t understand why either, but just now, in that dangerous moment, I used a few techniques that were a little different from usual. Maybe that’s the reason my eyes were targeted.”
“Oh? Then show me.” At this point, not only Naruto, even Sasuke had become interested. Sasuke frowned slightly, thinking to himself: as someone from a clan that also possessed ocular techniques, he very much wanted to know what strange changes the Hyuga clan’s Byakugan would undergo after evolution.
So Hinata slowly activated her Byakugan. Those originally pure and flawless eyes were instantly shrouded in a layer of mysterious pale blue light.
The veins that had bulged around her eyes before quietly disappeared as well. At that moment, Hinata’s pupils looked like a bottomless whirlpool, while the whites of her eyes were marked with rippling patterns like expanding sound waves, as though they could transmit and receive invisible information.
Seeing this marvelous sight, Naruto’s eyes widened even further.
Within his keen senses, the ocular power the Byakugan was releasing from Hinata now was like a barrel of powder suddenly set alight, its intensity surging wildly upward.
And the range that her Byakugan could perceive was also expanding outward at a furious pace, like a rising tide.
This was clearly not a simple increase in quantity. Naruto could feel it distinctly: this was a true qualitative leap.
Only one final crucial step remained, and the Byakugan would evolve into an entirely new pair of eyes. Yet no one knew what that crucial step was.
“How do you feel now? Have you gained any special insight?” Sasuke asked, brimming with curiosity.
“Your eyes really have evolved. They’re now a different kind of eye, one that has surpassed the Byakugan. By my experience, at the very instant the eyes evolve, you should naturally be able to grasp many of their new uses.”
Sasuke frowned slightly, his gaze fixed tightly on Hinata as he continued, “In other words, have you sensed any special abilities in these new eyes?”
“I... have,” Hinata murmured, lowering her head slightly.
“It feels as though I can see so many things. It’s no longer just simple x-ray vision. I can clearly see the flow of chakra, and I can also see the trail of some mysterious energy moving through the air. Now I can also clearly see the inner structure of objects.”
Her gaze slowly shifted to Naruto. Frowning a little, she said with some uncertainty, “I also see that Naruto is wrapped all over in two peculiar ‘flames.’ One is golden-red, and that power seems to be coming from Naruto’s abdomen. Could that be the Nine-Tails’ chakra?”
“And the other is azure. Its source seems to be Naruto’s head—this should be spiritual mechanical energy, right? Is that what spiritual mechanical energy looks like?”
Then Hinata gently raised her fair hands, and two streams of chakra began to flow out of her body like trickling brooks.
“And now, I can easily separate the yin and yang sides of chakra. I no longer need to rely on spiritual mechanical energy to do it.”
As she spoke, Hinata lifted her hands slightly. Two strange glimmers of light rose from them.
One stream of chakra carried a soft, feminine quality: yin chakra. It wound gracefully around Hinata like a silken ribbon, as though it were carefully weaving an invisible net of consciousness around her.
The other emitted a vigorous vitality: yang chakra. It was like a warm spring that granted life and energy to all things.
Under Hinata’s careful control, the two streams of chakra fused perfectly together, forming a unique force of circulation. In the end, they even transformed, in wondrous fashion, into a single mass of strange black substance that resembled metal.
Naruto frowned slightly. After a moment’s thought, he asked, “Hinata, you just said you can see the flow of chakra and the structure of objects. Can you also see the structure of ninjutsu?”
As he spoke, he raised his palm slightly. A blue Rasengan slowly spun in the center of his hand, radiating powerful waves of chakra.
“I can see it,” Hinata said, her eyes fixed on the Rasengan. “I can see that it’s a storm tightly compressed into a single mass.”
“You said you just absorbed Kakuzu’s ninjutsu, right? Then take a look and see whether you can absorb this Rasengan too.”
As he spoke, Naruto extended his hand toward Hinata.
Hinata nodded lightly and placed her hand on Naruto’s. A faint green glow flashed, and the Rasengan in Naruto’s hand vanished in an instant.
Naruto could clearly feel that a portion of his chakra had simply disappeared, as though it had been forcefully drawn in by Hinata’s chakra and merged into her body.
“Good. Then let’s try some other ninjutsu.”
Naruto frowned slightly, thinking for a moment before saying, “Let’s see whether you can still absorb ninjutsu that aren’t deliberately controlled by the caster. Sasuke, give me a hand.”
When Sasuke heard Naruto’s request, he immediately nodded and formed seals with both hands, unleashing a mid-level Fire Release technique.
A scorching blaze, like a ferocious fire serpent baring its fangs, surged toward Hinata with overwhelming momentum.
Hinata’s gaze locked tightly onto the incoming Fire Release. Her miraculous Byakugan swiftly traced the flow of chakra within the technique, like a seasoned hunter finding prey’s tracks with uncanny precision.
A faint light flashed in her eyes, and a burst of green radiance appeared in her hands. The chakra within the Fire Release seemed to be drawn by some mysterious force, continuously being absorbed into her palm.
“Hm... after absorbing so many techniques in a row, the amount of chakra is a little too much. I can’t quite digest it all.”
Hinata frowned slightly and gave a muffled groan, then suddenly threw a punch into the open ground.
As her pale fist struck out with full force, a huge fireball spun away into the distance, then exploded violently in midair with a deafening boom.
“Good. Now we know one application of these eyes.”
Naruto nodded slightly and summed up, “Hinata can absorb the chakra inside ninjutsu, then use taijutsu to strike that chakra back out. That’s what you call paying back in kind. In that sense, it also makes up for the Hyuga clan’s Gentle Fist shortcoming in destructive power.”
