Another day of training came to an end.

During a break, Qin Fei wandered into the command room and was struck by how quiet it was.

He glanced around and immediately spotted the reason, then asked the only person left, Shunai, with some curiosity, “Why is it so quiet? Are Daimon and Toma not here?”

“Oh, they went to investigate a returning boxer. I heard there’s a digital incident linked to him,” Shunai replied with a smile upon seeing Qin Fei, then added, “And Captain Samos also found what seems to be a Digimon at that boxer’s match, so they’ve been paying close attention to him recently.”

“Oh, really?” Qin Fei nodded but didn’t press for more details. He knew it was likely the digital incident involving Cactamon.

However, it wasn’t because of the boxer himself but rather something related to his daughter.

“Hmm? Aren’t you curious this time? You usually get really interested when it’s a digital incident,” Shunai said with a teasing smile.

Qin Fei waved his hand and explained, “The training lately has been exhausting me every day. I’ve lost my enthusiasm...”

“Ha ha ha, kids need to relax and play more—that’s good for their mental and physical growth. Stop acting so serious all the time; it really doesn’t suit you,” Shunai teased, catching the tone in Qin Fei’s voice.

Qin Fei nodded in agreement without protest. She was right; he did need to unwind.

Maybe tonight he could take Lolo, Digimon, and Black Dolmon to watch a movie and build some bonds?

“By the way, Captain Samos assigned me to investigate the boxer’s family too. The command room will be locked soon. Do you want to get locked in here?” Shunai smiled as she stood up after wrapping up her work.

“Better not. I’ll head back to the dormitory. I’m beat,” Qin Fei shrugged, waved goodbye, and left.

Qin Fei wasn’t concerned about the Cactamon incident; with Daimon and the others’ strength, it would be handled well. What he was focused on was the Digimon involved in the upcoming digital incident—Soulmon.

...

The next day, just as Qin Fei had predicted, the situation was resolved perfectly. It was Toma who uncovered the problem.

Everything seemed back on track.

“Hey, Toma, did you invite Chika to your place?” Suddenly, Daimon nudged Toma, who was working at the control console, with a curious question.

Qin Fei’s ears twitched, standing alert.

“Yeah, Chika and I planned it when we went to the amusement park earlier. Why do you ask?” Toma replied.

Upon hearing this, Daimon grinned and slung an arm over Toma’s shoulder shamelessly, “Well, add me to the invite.”

“You?” Toma looked at him suspiciously.

“Yes, as Chika’s older brother, I have to ensure her safety. She’s only ten and hasn’t traveled far,” Daimon said with a serious expression.

Toma gave him a sidelong glance. “You’re just looking to mooch a meal at my place, aren’t you?”

“...”

“How could you say that? I’m a loving and caring brother to Chika!”

“Alright, alright...” Toma sighed and finally agreed.

Qin Fei subtly shifted his seat, pretending not to pay attention but secretly eavesdropping on their conversation.

Before long, he was fortunate enough to hear the exact time they agreed upon and made a mental note.

So all he could do now was wait quietly for that day to arrive.

Qin Fei had long coveted Soulmon’s abilities. Though it could only be used on Lolo, he believed that once she possessed that power, her strength would rise to a new level, even yielding unexpectedly formidable effects in certain situations.

...

Three days later.

“Qin Fei, are we really going to wait for them here?” Outside an extraordinarily luxurious estate, Loretta-mon and Qin Fei watched Daimon escorting his sister Chika inside, both somewhat disgruntled.

Inside that magnificent house, they would eat and drink well, while Qin Fei and Loretta-mon had to stand outside on the street, enduring the biting northwest wind.

“Of course. We have to get that Digimon’s ability—it’s an incredibly useful skill,” Qin Fei said, gazing at the grand estate with a silent curse at its opulence, then looked on with envy at what seemed like a noble’s mansion straight out of a movie.

No mistake—Toma really was a noble. Though a bastard son, he had inheritance rights.

Thinking of that, Qin Fei sighed again. Reincarnation truly was an art.

“If we nail this today, we’ll celebrate. I’ll treat you all to a good meal!” Qin Fei encouraged his companions.

“Yay! More snacks!” Black Dolmon’s excited voice suddenly came from the Digivice at his waist, clearly moved by Qin Fei’s promise.

However, Dilmon broke free from the Digivice and sat beside Qin Fei, seemingly overwhelmed by Black Dolmon’s excess energy.

“How long do we have to wait?”

Seeing Dilmon inch closer to Qin Fei, Lolo’s eyes narrowed sharply. She immediately stepped between them, trying to block Dilmon from sitting next to Qin Fei.

But Dilmon furrowed her brow, flipped nimbly, and using her petite frame, evaded Loretta-mon’s interception to claim a spot on Qin Fei’s thigh.

Dilmon’s advantage was clear—their catlike figure gave Lolo no chance to replace her.

“So annoying,” Loretta-mon muttered, turning her head away.

“It shouldn’t be long—maybe not even until noon,” Qin Fei answered patiently. He knew that around lunchtime, Chika had stormed out in frustration after feeling that her brother, Daimon, had embarrassed her. In her anger, she recklessly cursed Daimon, which led to his miserable day.

The Soulmon, cursed by Chika, had possessed Daimon’s back, bringing him a string of bad luck.

“What’s that?” Lolo asked curiously, eyeing the spray bottle Qin Fei pulled from his pocket.

“Oh, this? It contains special red ink with particles that react to Digimon matter. I got it from Samos. Heh heh heh...” Qin Fei said with a mischievous grin.

“What are you planning to do?”

“You’ll see soon enough... By the way, card swap! Unicornmon...” Qin Fei said confidently, summoning a red-edged flintlock pistol in his hand.

Loretta-mon grew even more puzzled but Qin Fei didn’t explain. His unwavering gaze fixed on the estate, waiting for the target to appear.

“Here she comes!!!”

Sure enough, before long, a familiar little girl appeared on the estate’s main road, her eyes red from crying.

Seeing the target, Qin Fei instructed Loretta-mon, “Hide here and don’t get spotted. I’ll lure the Digimon out. When you see a floating Digimon wearing a wizard’s hat, that’s your cue to strike...”

With that, Qin Fei smoothed out the creases in his pants, feigned a casual encounter, and approached.
