Chapter 121: I Am a Time Traveler
“Let me tell you about what has happened between humans and this digital world.”
Facing the three who stood ready before him, Qin Fei began to explain slowly.
Since they had arrived in the digital world, Qin Fei released Dorumon and Black Dorumon from their Digivices; Agumon, Lalamon, and Gaomon also came out to get some fresh air.
“Where should I start... hmm, let’s begin with the first group of humans who entered the digital world to explore... You’ve probably already heard Captain Samo’s rough outline, so I won’t bother repeating what you already know... I’ll start from what you don’t know.”
“...”
As Qin Fei’s explanation, though not overly long, unfolded, the expressions of Daimon Dai, Shun’na, and Toma grew increasingly serious.
It wasn’t until the originally azure sky was replaced by the dimming sunset that Qin Fei finished his tale and let out a deep sigh.
“Is... everything you said true?”
Daimon Dai listened intently to Qin Fei’s story, and the restless shifts in his expression finally settled.
“Well, you can verify it yourselves. If you don’t believe me, you can just treat it as a story...”
Seeing the doubt—or perhaps unwillingness to believe—in their eyes, Qin Fei shrugged.
“Then why do you know all this?”
This was the question that mattered most to Toma.
“There’s a reason, but you probably won’t believe it. Just know that I’ve always been on your side, hoping humans and Digimon can coexist harmoniously.”
“Speak up. If you don’t tell us, how can we believe you?”
Qin Fei blinked a few times, then after some thought said, “I’m a traveler from another world...”
Toma: “What?”
Noticing the puzzled looks on Daimon Dai and Shun’na’s faces, Qin Fei seemed to see question marks rising above their heads.
“See? You don’t understand my very first sentence.”
Toma thought for a moment, then seemed to grasp the meaning and asked, “You mean you came from another world?”
Qin Fei glanced at Toma, impressed at how quickly he caught on.
“Bingo.”
“Why are you telling us all this? Feels like you’re settling your affairs...”
Shun’na looked at Qin Fei with a strange gaze and uttered an unflattering but oddly fitting description.
Qin Fei glanced at her, realizing women’s intuition was quite accurate. He planned to stay in this digital world for a while, as he had a plan in mind. But that plan might provoke Akihiro Kurata prematurely, causing him to unleash the Kizu-mon AT army earlier than expected.
In the human world, he was entangled with Masato Sakuramoto, who even ordered a nationwide manhunt for the main characters, capturing them and imprisoning their Digimon, even erasing the memories of people like Daimon Dai.
Qin Fei didn’t want to get caught in those human troubles. He intended to prepare properly in the digital world to face Kurata’s invasion, or at least to see if he could save Mercurymon.
Letting Mercurymon—one of the twelve Olympian gods—fall to a surprise attack by the Kizu-mon was too humiliating. More importantly, he hoped to cooperate with this forest lord. With Mercurymon’s speed and strength, even Kurata Akihiro couldn’t defeat him in a direct confrontation.
Of course, Qin Fei didn’t plan to tell Daimon Dai and the others that he wouldn’t be leaving the digital world anytime soon.
After all, once everything was over, Qin Fei intended to try returning to his original world.
That was the wish of this body; his aunt was waiting for him, and perhaps the chosen children like Tai were waiting for him too.
He had decided not to hide behind the “plot” anymore but to face the darkness of that world head-on. Whether it was the Clown Emperor or Apocalymon, Qin Fei intended to fight seriously—win or lose.
“Did you say my father went to seek the god of the digital world?”
While digesting Qin Fei’s revelations, Daimon Dai asked the question closest to his heart.
“Yes. It’s possible your father is still alive.”
Hearing this, Daimon Dai’s mood brightened considerably—his chances of meeting his father seemed higher.
“What kind of world was your previous world?”
Dorumon suddenly asked.
“Well, in the end, it was a world where humans and Digimon finally understood and cooperated with each other, but of course, that was after great trials.”
That was after the timeline of the second season of Digimon.
“So what you said is true.”
Dorumon also recalled the words Qin Fei had spoken atop the Ferris wheel in the amusement park.
“Sounds like a fairy tale world. If Chika knew, she’d be very happy.”
Looking at the protective charm his sister had given him, Daimon Dai smiled wistfully.
“So hardships are necessary to achieve such a world.”
Toma sighed, catching the key point.
“...”
“Will you return to your original world?”
Shun’na hesitated for a moment, then looked at Qin Fei with mixed feelings and asked.
“...”
“I suppose so...”
“...”
Silence fell again.
“Forget it. Since Qin Fei has told us the truth—whether true or not—we must verify it ourselves. I want to ask Mercurymon directly if my father really made that promise... about humans and Digimon living in peace.”
As he spoke, the hatred in Daimon Dai’s eyes toward Mercurymon gradually faded.
If what Qin Fei said was true, then the real villain was that Akihiro Kurata. He vowed never to forgive that man.
“That guy controls a strange artificial Digimon that can dismantle other Digimon’s data from within, and even destroy Digi-eggs...”
Qin Fei thought for a moment and added.
“What?!”
The fury in Daimon Dai’s eyes intensified. Toma and Shun’na also showed expressions of disgust.
Clearly, they were beginning to believe Qin Fei.
For those who had always lived alongside Digimon, like Shun’na and the others, the lives of Digimon were far more precious.
If Qin Fei’s words were true, Kurata Akihiro’s deeds were utterly unforgivable.
Tomato
“When I return, I’ll ask Captain Samo for details. If it really was Kurata Akihiro’s doing...”
Toma looked at the sky, where only a sliver of white remained on the horizon, and spoke quietly.
“Step by step. First, we find Mercurymon and settle this matter. If possible, I have a plan to lure Kurata Akihiro into the digital world...”
“What plan...”
Daimon Dai and the others’ eyes lit up, eagerly looking at Qin Fei.
“That’s a secret.”
Smiling mysteriously, Qin Fei changed the subject. “It’s getting late. Let’s find a place to camp and rest. We’ll need strength to face the troubles ahead...”
“Let’s decide who keeps watch first.”
Qin Fei pulled out his luggage and took out a set of expensive, specially made survival gear and food.
No one objected, seeing Qin Fei’s reluctance to say more and the sky darkening fast.
At least, they would overcome the immediate challenge first.
...
Early the next morning, everyone was ready to depart.
Fortunately, the previous night was safe—no Digimon attacks, no sudden enemies.
After a hearty meal, they set out at last.
Mercurymon’s palace was easy to find—just beyond the distant yet conspicuous snow-capped mountains before them. But Qin Fei knew this journey wouldn’t be easy.
Ore Beast, Yuto who thought himself a Digimon, and Noctowlmon would certainly try to hinder them.
He wondered if Daimon Dai could find the chance to evolve Greymon further.
And whether Gaomon and Lalamon could evolve further as well.
