Chapter 135: The Fatal Shot at the Bio-Thunderbird Beast
A female angel-type Digimon appeared before them, wearing a metal helmet and a white, skin-tight suit with elaborate cutouts. Eight wings spread from her back, and her figure was stunning.
The pink shawl wrapped around her arms made her seem even more ethereal and otherworldly.
“She’s beautiful...”
Yoshino gazed at the graceful figure standing before Qin Fei, her eyes filled with dazzled admiration.
Yoshino was not the only one captivated. The others, too, were drawn to Angewomon’s sacred yet alluring appearance. None of them had expected Gatomon to possess such a marvelous form after evolving.
“Hmm, she really is beautiful. I think I may actually like that Digimon a little. But I’d sooner tear my own mouth open than admit it.”
BioStegomon suddenly spoke in his deep, rumbling voice, even though his actions were completely at odds with his words.
“Yes, yes, you said it. Everyone heard you.”
BioQuetzalmon could only respond helplessly. Yet as she looked at Angewomon, who was far more beautiful than herself despite being a Digimon, a trace of jealousy stirred in her heart.
“...”
“As I thought, my DigiSoul is already strong enough to let Gatomon evolve into an Ultimate.”
Qin Fei glanced at the DigiSoul still lingering in his hand. The originally gray DigiSoul had changed color. It seemed that the white portion had been extracted, leaving only black DigiSoul behind.
However, Qin Fei did not continue examining it. The most important thing now was to eliminate the enemies before them.
Everything else could wait until the battle was over.
“Loretamon, evolve... Fury Tiger Valkyrimon!”
The tiger-bodied, human-faced Digimon with enormous wings once again descended beside Qin Fei. She and Angewomon each confronted one of the enemies.
“Ikuto, just hold back that giant turtle for a while. Leave the other two to me. I’ll deal with them quickly.”
Although the three Bio Digimon, when working together, possessed strength comparable to that of an Ultimate, Qin Fei had no intention of letting them regroup.
“Leave it to me. Yatagaramon, let’s go!”
Ikuto nodded, then charged toward BioStegomon alongside Yatagaramon.
“Lolo, you take BioThunderbirdmon! Angewomon, deal with BioQuetzalmon! Finish the battle as quickly as possible!”
Once again, the fight became three against three.
“Damn you! Don’t underestimate me! Thunderstorm!”
Seeing the tiger-bodied, human-faced Digimon flying toward him, BioThunderbirdmon roared. Lightning surged across his wings, and with a single sweep, countless bolts of electricity hurtled toward Fury Tiger Valkyrimon, carried along by the raging hurricane.
But Fury Tiger Valkyrimon merely sneered. The enormous wings on her back spread wide, summoning an even greater storm that swallowed the incoming electrical tempest.
“Wings of the Wind God!”
A thunderstorm far larger than the previous one surged toward BioThunderbirdmon, instantly dragging him into its depths.
“Argh! Ghh!”
BioThunderbirdmon cried out in pain. He struggled within the storm for a long time before barely breaking free, then stared at Fury Tiger Valkyrimon with fear.
He had never imagined that this unfamiliar Digimon could possess such terrifying power—power capable of forcing him, a warrior who had never suffered defeat, into such a desperate state.
On the other side, Angewomon’s luminous bow fired arrow after arrow, suppressing BioQuetzalmon and preventing her from drawing near. Yet BioQuetzalmon’s movements were exceptionally nimble, and Angewomon found it difficult to keep her pinned down for long. The difference in their strength was not particularly great; both were among the strongest of the Ultimate-level Digimon. As a result, their battle had fallen into a stalemate.
Yatagaramon continued circling BioStegomon at blinding speed. Ikuto understood that in terms of raw power, he was no match for the Bio Digimon. He might not even be able to break through BioStegomon’s defenses. But if all he had to do was keep his opponent occupied, Yatagaramon held a tremendous advantage.
BioStegomon could not catch them at all, and their irritating, ineffectual attacks left him disoriented and furious.
The outcome would depend on which side could defeat an opponent first.
“These guys are incredible. No wonder they defeated our Ultimates so easily.”
Thomas and the others watched the flashes of weapons and the violent clashes in the sky with mixed admiration and astonishment. They even felt somewhat ashamed of themselves. They had always considered themselves geniuses, yet at that moment they seemed so powerless.
“BioThunderbirdmon is going to lose!”
Nanami, who had evolved into BioQuetzalmon, grew increasingly frantic as she watched Saint being completely overwhelmed by Fury Tiger Valkyrimon. She knew that once Saint was defeated, both she and Ivan would be finished.
“Saint, Ivan, we have to retreat! Open the Digital Gate!”
Nanami shouted, using Angewomon’s attack as an opportunity to pull farther away.
“Damn you! Next time, I’ll wipe you all out!”
BioThunderbirdmon had already been considering retreat. He hurled a space-time shock bomb, creating a pitch-black digital void.
Then he let out another furious roar. The Gizmon that had been slaughtering the village’s Digimon all around them flew over in a swarm, apparently intending to shield the three of them as they escaped.
Qin Fei looked at the mass of Gizmon gathering around him and at BioThunderbirdmon beating his wings as he withdrew. Without hesitation, he pulled out his Digivice.
“Card Slash: SaberLeomon! Infinite Arrows!”
Fury Tiger Valkyrimon roared. The feathers of her wings gathered together, forming a golden arrow marked with crimson patterns.
“Oh no!”
The sight of the enormous golden arrow aimed directly at him made every hair on BioThunderbirdmon’s body stand on end.
He frantically drove the approaching Gizmon into position behind him, forming layer upon layer of sturdy Gizmon shields. Then, without looking back, he fled into the Digital Gate.
Nanami and Ivan caught sight of the awe-inspiring golden blade-like arrow on Fury Tiger Valkyrimon’s back. After exchanging a terrified glance, they hurried into the Digital Gate as well. They no longer had any concern for Saint’s fate.
“Faster! Faster! Faster!”
As the dark and profound Digital Gate drew nearer, the delight on Saint’s face grew more intense.
Once he reached it—once he entered the Digital Gate—he would be safe.
But just as he was about to touch the gate, a golden arrow pierced through the thick wall of Gizmon shields in the blink of an eye, then punched straight through BioThunderbirdmon’s chest, leaving a gaping hole from front to back.
“How could this... How could I possibly have... lost...?”
Through the hole in his chest, BioThunderbirdmon saw the enormous Gizmon shield behind him, itself bearing an equally massive opening. His unwilling pupils slowly lost their focus until his body shrank back into that of a pale-faced man. At last, he too dissipated into the world.
“We won!”
Yoshino and Ikuto burst into excited laughter, while Marcus Damon and Thomas wore expressions of profound relief.
Only Qin Fei gazed at the vanished Digital Gate with a trace of regret.
Two of them had escaped. The next time they met, they would probably stand before him again in their Mega forms.
Qin Fei did not regret his decision, however. His experiment had succeeded. His DigiSoul was now capable of allowing Gatomon to evolve into the Ultimate Angewomon.
He glanced at the somewhat foolish grin on BlackGatomon’s face and smiled thoughtfully.
Perhaps next time he should try injecting the DigiSoul into the Digivice. Maybe that would allow BlackGatomon to evolve into an Ultimate as well.
Yet this experiment had also revealed another problem: the amount of DigiSoul within his body was sufficient to let only one Digimon evolve into an Ultimate.
That was why he had allowed Lolo to fight in her Fury Tiger Valkyrimon form.
The DigiSoul within his body was no longer enough to support her evolution into Tikwinyamon.
