Chapter Ninety-Four: The Powerful Body
If a normal person saw a monstrous beast nearly ten feet tall and sixteen feet long, would they really charge at it?
And yet Masaru Daimon did exactly that, even throwing a brutal punch at it.
If a giant beast’s claw, one that could easily shatter a concrete wall, came down on a human being, what would happen? It would probably be little better than being hit head-on by a speeding truck.
In the end, the only difference would be flesh torn into chunks or crushed into pulp.
But when Garurumon’s claw struck Masaru Daimon, he was hurled seven or eight yards through the air before slamming into a wall and finally stopping.
For an ordinary person, that single blow would have erased any trace of a complete human shape.
And yet Masaru merely groaned in pain, then rose to his feet unharmed.
“...”
“Is that still even human?”
From a concealed high platform, Qin Fei and the others stared at Masaru Daimon’s unnaturally resilient body, all of them wearing expressions of utter shock.
“...”
“Damn it... Is my power not enough to deal with this guy?”
But Masaru himself did not see Qin Fei’s astonished expression. All that remained in him was the desperate struggle of a man powerless before Garurumon.
“So in the end, only a Digimon can deal with a Digimon?”
Hearing Masaru’s discouraged muttering, Qin Fei let out a quiet sigh as well.
Masaru’s Digisoul still was not sufficient. At most, it could only let Agumon evolve to Champion level. If he possessed enough Digisoul to push Agumon all the way to Ultimate level, this Garurumon would already have fallen.
If Masaru’s body held Digisoul as vast as his father’s, he could probably even hold his own against a Mega-level Digimon.
“Graaah!”
Seeing Masaru lost in self-doubt, Garurumon naturally would not waste such a perfect opening. Its enormous claw swept out again, but Masaru, suddenly alert, managed to dodge it.
Crash—
The station’s sturdy concrete wall was smashed to pieces under Garurumon’s claw, as if it were made of tofu. Qin Fei’s heart trembled at the sight, yet just moments earlier Masaru had withstood the same attack with his bare body.
Before Masaru could recover, Garurumon opened its dreadful maw and lunged at him, as though intent on swallowing him whole.
Masaru’s expression changed, and he hurriedly braced himself against those fangs, thicker than his own arms, trying to push them away.
Human and beast locked in a stalemate. But even at a glance, it was clear Masaru was losing ground; if no one came to help, he would not last much longer.
“Should we go save him?” Lorettamon asked. She, too, had been moved by Masaru’s courage in confronting a Digimon with nothing but a human body.
“Mm, let Gatomon go... wait!”
Just as Qin Fei was about to have Gatomon lend a hand, a familiar yellow figure suddenly entered his field of vision.
“Agumon?!”
Following Qin Fei’s gaze, Lolo also spotted the large-headed yellow dinosaur rushing anxiously toward them.
“Forget it. Let Masaru and Agumon handle this themselves. We won’t interfere.”
Qin Fei seemed to smile. He knew that after this, the bond and friendship between Masaru and Agumon would rise to another level.
If he were to barge in rashly, it would only spoil the moment.
“...”
“Was I wrong? For me, Agumon... Agumon is an irreplaceable partner!”
“I want to fight together with Agumon!”
“Agumon!!!”
As though answering Masaru’s sudden, thunderous realization, three fireballs fell from the sky one after another, striking Garurumon squarely and driving it back hard.
“Big bro... I made it!”
Masaru lifted his exhausted head and looked at the yellow back standing protectively before him. In his heart, a feeling of warmth and confusion slowly began to rise.
“Agumon... why are you here...?”
Agumon turned around and looked earnestly at his partner, Masaru Daimon, and said, “I need Big Bro too. Come on, Big Bro, let’s take that guy down together!”
With that, Agumon held out his claw and offered him the Digivice resting in his palm—Masaru’s Digivice, no, theirs.
Clearly, Agumon had also heard Masaru’s heartfelt cry for him earlier.
Looking at Agumon’s outstretched paw, Masaru reached out and felt the familiar grip of the Digivice. He paused for a moment...
“Yeah! The two of us, together!”
“Yeah!”
All at once, Masaru felt a long-lost surge of hot-blooded fire rising through his body and soul.
“Let’s go, Agumon!”
“Roger, Big Bro!”
Seeing Garurumon recover before him, Masaru was no longer lost. He gripped the orange-red Digivice tightly in his hand.
“Digisoul... Charge!”
“Agumon evolve... GeoGreymon!”
“...”
Watching the Digimon below, now even more fearsome than Greymon, Qin Fei’s eyes showed the look of someone enjoying a good show.
Garurumon, sensing the newly arrived GeoGreymon and the battle aura blazing from its whole body, seemed to realize it was not to be taken lightly. It did not rush in recklessly, but instead tensed every muscle in preparation.
“Come on!”
GeoGreymon taunted Garurumon with a roar, then charged first, driving forward with the sharp horn atop its head!
Garurumon did not dare take the blow head-on. It nimbly sidestepped, then transformed its entire body into a round, spinning sawblade and counterattacked.
“Gah!”
GeoGreymon showed no fear at all. It spread both claws wide and caught Garurumon’s spinning assault with all its strength... allowing the friction to scrape pain and sparks across its body.
“GeoGreymon!”
Masaru’s rallying shout seemed to ignite even more power in GeoGreymon. With a mighty lift of its powerful arm, it hurled Garurumon’s body away hard.
A huge mass of building equipment was smashed to pieces.
“Oh, it’s a beam clash!”
Seeing flames begin to spread from GeoGreymon’s mouth, Qin Fei cried out in excitement, as if the “performance” before him had finally reached its climax.
Lolo, BlackDorulumon, and Gatomon, hearing the delight in their partner’s voice, stared without blinking at the battle unfolding on the tracks below.
Garurumon also opened its bloody maw, blue flames gathering in its mouth.
The two sides now looked like gunslingers locked in a final duel, each watching the other’s movements with absolute focus, not daring to let up in the slightest.
“Mega Flame!”
Suddenly, orange-red flames and azure-blue flames erupted at the same time, colliding instantly and whipping up a violent blast of wind.
The tremendous force drove the two battling digital bodies back and forth, as though they were evenly matched.
“GeoGreymon, don’t lose!”
Masaru held up a hand against the savage gusts and shouted encouragement without the slightest sign of backing down. “You’ve got my Digisoul in you... so there is no way you’ll lose to that kind of Digimon!”
“GeoGreymon wins.”
In Qin Fei’s clear pupils, the flickering blue and red light below reflected like a mirror. He could see that, with the strength of Masaru’s unyielding spirit behind it, the Digisoul flashed through the Digivice in his hand.
As expected, the flames in GeoGreymon’s mouth suddenly flared fiercer, instantly overwhelming Garurumon’s fire.
“That’s amazing!”
With Masaru’s delighted cry, the orange-red blaze swept over Garurumon’s entire body, erupting into a pillar of light that shot skyward.
Garurumon was defeated.
“Digisoul, huh?”
Watching the pillar of light that refused to fade, Qin Fei, and even Lorettamon and the others, all showed a glimmer of longing.
“...”
“Good job, Agumon.”
Once everything had quieted down, Masaru solemnly held out his hand to Agumon, as if offering his apology, and at the same time affirming his partner.
“Big Bro!”
Agumon took Masaru’s hand with emotion.
“If you and I work together... no matter what kind of Digimon it is, we can bring it down!”
“We’re the strongest partners!”
At last, the two of them regained their friendship and confidence, and their bond grew even closer.
Masaru drew a deep breath and said, a little sheepishly, “I said some terrible things. I’m sorry.”
Agumon shook his head. “It’s okay. I’m the one who should apologize.”
“...”
“That’s so sappy. Let’s go.”
Looking at the peaceful human and beast below, Qin Fei stretched and said to Lorettamon and the others. The show was over.
It was time for everyone to go home...
