Chapter 36: What If He Truly Has Feelings?
“What were you saying to the class monitor, you rascal?”
“Are you talking behind our backs?”
Though Qu Peng and Li Liang couldn’t see his expression when he was tattling, their familiarity with him kept them from being easily fooled.
Before he could run up to them, both stretched out their feet.
“I wasn’t,” Wang Fan replied, not about to wait for a kick. He slammed on the brakes and stopped exactly a meter away—just out of reach.
“I just asked her to go to Mount Tai with us. She refused. If you don’t believe me, you can go ask her yourself.”
“Really?” Qu Peng narrowed his eyes suspiciously, scrutinizing him.
“Probably not true!” Li Liang, knowing all about his bad habits, didn’t believe a word of it.
“Go ask her yourselves if you don’t believe me.” Wang Fan was confident neither of them had the guts to do so, and teased them with a grin. “I got shut down, but you two still have a chance. If you want to go, go. Don’t chicken out.”
“Forget it,” Li Liang said, feeling uncertain and wanting to give up. “You were the one who suggested the bet anyway. We’re just here for the fun.”
“What’s the point of inviting girls to climb Mount Tai?” Qu Peng backed out as well, making excuses. “If they can’t keep up, we’ll have to carry their bags—asking for trouble.”
“Tch—”
Wang Fan almost burst out laughing. “I thought you guys were more determined. Chickening out already? How boring.”
“Why is Gu Bin teaching kids to swim?” Li Liang’s ears reddened as he changed the subject. “Wasn’t he supposed to talk about climbing Mount Tai with us? What’s he up to now? Maybe he wants to show off in front of the girls, make himself noticed?”
“Huh, I almost forgot about him.” Wang Fan stopped laughing and followed his gaze, feeling a strange unease.
He knew Gu Bin’s temperament best: appearing gentle and friendly, but actually full of cunning. Among the four childhood friends, he was definitely the most scheming and the hardest to deal with.
If he really set his sights on Lin Xiyu...
Wang Fan asked himself honestly—he didn’t have the guts to snatch from a tiger’s mouth.
“Hey, Wang Fan,” Qu Peng saw the change in his expression and smiled darkly, deliberately provoking him. “What’s the point in just us three betting? We can’t leave Gu Bin out. Go ask him whether he wants to climb Mount Tai with the beauty.”
“I’ll ask him,” Wang Fan said, not wanting to appear timid in front of his friends. “It’s just a bet. What’s there to be afraid of? Women are like clothes—if you lose, just change them...”
“Tch—” Li Liang couldn’t stand hearing it and wanted to kick him again. “You say it like you’ve had lots of women, but you’re still a rookie who’s never tasted real life...”
“Go on, don’t chicken out.” Qu Peng added fuel to the fire. “If you lose, the two of us will sing ‘Love Like the Tide’ with you. Don’t leave me drunk alone...”
“Thanks a lot...” Wang Fan, teased mercilessly by his two friends, couldn’t hide his embarrassment. Grinding his teeth, he walked off in a huff.
“Villains meet their match.”
“If he dared to trick us, he deserves a little payback.” Qu Peng and Li Liang exchanged knowing smiles. The pent-up frustration in their hearts finally found its release.

“Director Du, this motorcycle is pretty nice. It matches the advertisers’ requirements...”
Li Yan, eyeing Wang Fan’s motorcycle with interest, leaned in to whisper to Director Du.
Director Du nodded repeatedly as he looked at the motorcycle. “That boy’s image is good too. Have him ride around the alley.”
“I’ll ask Xiyu to talk to him. From the way they spoke just now, they seem to know each other.”
“He knows Xiaobin too. Most likely classmates—perfect for an interview about college entrance preferences...”
“Alright, I’ll go right away.”
After their discussion, Li Yan quickly grabbed the microphone and walked over to Lin Xiyu.
