Chapter 4: The Springwater Family Documentary
The campus was crowded, making it inconvenient to ride a bicycle. Gu Bin pushed his bike, following the flow of people out through the gate.
A female reporter from the television station was interviewing students who had just finished their exams. Spotting him, her eyes lit up, and she rushed toward him with a microphone raised.
Gu Bin naturally stopped, ready to accept the interview. He had always been a top student since childhood, representing the school at various events thanks to his outstanding appearance. He was no stranger to such situations. He quickly organized his thoughts, preparing to offer his usual courteous and charming smile to the camera, when the reporter suddenly changed direction, energetically racing past him with her microphone.
Gu Bin: "........."
It was a bit awkward.
—
"How did the exam go? Was it smooth?" The female reporter beamed, her smile radiant as she hurried toward Lin Xiyu, who had come up behind.
"It was alright, I suppose. Went smoothly." Lin Xiyu braked her bike, glancing at the reporter, her eyelids twitching.
Why are you still here? The question was written plainly across her face.
"Here’s the thing, student." The reporter smiled gently and got straight to the point. "Allow me to introduce myself again. I’m Li Yan from the ‘Family of Springs’ program team at Jinan Television. Before the old city is redeveloped and demolished, we’re planning to shoot a documentary about the real lives of residents in the courtyard houses."
"The director saw footage of you rescuing someone in the moat this morning and thought you’d be perfect for a cameo role in the documentary. He specifically asked us to wait here to get your opinion…"
—
"A documentary? Me—me?" The surprise struck so suddenly that Lin Xiyu stammered in delight.
"Yes." Li Yan gave her an encouraging look. "Don’t doubt it, you heard right—it’s you."
"Gu Bin, is this real? I’m not dreaming, am I?" Lin Xiyu still couldn’t believe it, instinctively looking at the only familiar face nearby.
"Are you really from the television station?" Gu Bin met the girl’s pure, deer-like gaze, and his heart was gently stirred, a strange thought popping up for no reason.
She’s so innocent, almost naive. She needs to be watched, or someone might lead her astray.
"You two know each other?" Li Yan heard his blunt question, but instead of being annoyed, she was delighted. "Young man, your image is very good as well. It fits the role in the documentary perfectly. Would you like to be a cameo too?"
Gu Bin narrowed his eyes, considering the possibility of appearing in the documentary.
"He can join too?" Lin Xiyu felt a small happiness, "Film the documentary with me?"
"Exactly."
—
Li Yan nodded with a smile. "Not just the two of you—we’ll need several extras. Your classmates and relatives will all have a chance to appear in the documentary…"
"Really? That’s wonderful!" Lin Xiyu was overjoyed, her bright eyes sparkling with undisguised excitement and delight.
A girl’s thoughts were written clearly across her face.
It was as if she were saying, Please say yes, please say yes—if you agree, I can be on TV like those stars and shoot a documentary.
Gu Bin saw through her little hopes at a glance, and the strange idea in his mind grew ever stronger.
This really depended on him.
Without his help, the girl genuinely might end up being tricked.
"Gu Bin?" Lin Xiyu saw he hadn’t responded and asked directly, "Do you want to film the documentary?"
"What about you?" Gu Bin raised his eyebrows, answering her question with another.
"I want to." Lin Xiyu nodded honestly, then added, "If you film, I’ll film. You’re smart, and following you is always the right choice."
